It's literally not worth my time in value to take 10-15 seconds to stop and pick it up.

Say you make $60/hr on average. $1 a minute. That's 25cents of your time to stop for 15 seconds to stoop, pick up, look at, and pocket a penny.

Bad value proposition. Needs to be at least a dime if you are quick and a quarter if you are slow unless your free time is only worth minimum wage type compensation.

Yea. I grew up pretty damn poor….if I see it, I still pick them up. I'm of the time when you could turn in soda bottles for a little coin. I would pick all I could up along our county roads to save up some change. If lucky I could collect enough to maybe go to a movie.

I've got 2 kiddos that love change and since I barely ever have cash the only way I get them change is if I see it lying around. We always peep the coinstar machines for rejects and actually find fun stuff there. Lots of worthless foreign change but I've found mercury dimes and buffalo nickels in there too. Today we scored a 1943 steel wheat penny!
