They all suck ass. If you can get a cheaper rate with one vs. the other, do it, and be ready to switch again in 2-3 years when they start creeping the premiums up.

I have had Allstate for 35 years and I have nothing but props to say. Maybe it's because my agent Tom Hardin has been my only agent for 35 years.

2 wrecks. And 1 hit abs run.
1 broken into vehicle with $1k worth of damage done
Hurricane Ike, Rita, Harvey

They were prompt, had almost immediate checks to cover most things and then submitted extra receipts to cover additional items upon discovery.

Are they the cheapest …..probably not. But I am extremely happy with them.

About 3 years ago. I received a call from Allstate corporate and the rep. Claim that if I upgrade my policies I would save a few hundred bucks, but none of my coverages would change.

So I repeated back the claim. "So you are saying if I just update the policy where nothing changes except a new implementation date and there would be no changes or impacts on my coverage"? The rep said yes.

Long and short of it. The coverage was mostly the same but the new policy had a bunch of caveats, loopholes and language that shifted more risk to me. So I turn down the option to upgrade. I am more than ok to not to save money today to preserve my 35 year old policy that. Seems to have allowed my agent to cover me without any heart ache.

welp, we had to use our insurance, so now they are dropping us because we used the product we have been purchasing for 12 years and yes there were multiple claims and i get it but I still get to be mad. So I'm officially cranky,

1 was not his fault, but the drivers were illegal/uninsured. 2 were his fault , but one of those turned into two separate claims because the mechanic messed up the repair and lied about it and the insurance company sided with the crooked mechanic.

2025 was a rough vehicle for the Swimhold and I was hoping that pain was behind us, but we had a good insurance policy and replacing it with similar will be super expensive.

Progressive auto is good for the first 6 months. Then they will jack the prices up sky high.

Thanks for the call out.

The last time I switched insurance was to LM in 2020. I got busy with this and that, here and there, so many thing. My insurance would renew every Sept and I would pledge to myself to shop but never did. Until this Dec when I spent a good 3-4 days trying to understand what each type of coverage meant and how much I actually needed, and used ChatGPT also. Pulled the trigger and my auto insurance went down a LOT. Home was about the same, slightly lower. Overall a gain for the same coverage.

So I will call again end of May and shop again. I don't care about loyalty and I will go with what suits me the best. I would even go back to LM if they gave me a good deal. Treat these corps like you treat a hoar - use them and throw them.

usaa. We had 3 claims in three years, but two were basically back to back which is when they sent a letter notifying they were dropping us.

I'm cranky, but we did end up having a really really bad last couple of months of the year. 2 total losses (but mine only cost 5k calm your pants)

I used AllState for 31 years. Last year I switched to Progressive. AllState went up 200% over 6 years with me filing zero claims.
When the truth comes out, do not ask me how I knew.
Ask yourself why you did not.

Look at state farm. We switched from USAA to them when USAA's customer service took a nose dive. Prices are less for a comparable product. They are also easy to deal with in a claim (just dealt with it- hit a hog going about 70).

Edit- just dont use them for homeowners

Nope. USAA for over 40 years

I had them for about a decade in auto. They were more than twice the cost of pretty much everyone else. They're very polite on the phone with native English speakers, so I'm not knocking how you spend your money. I do use them for home- They were the most expensive option there as well, but it was closer.

They could never articulate why they were so much more expensive. In the end the rep told me to switch because they weren't even going to be able to come close.

I guess there's a lot to be said for peace of mind and they have a good reputation for customer service, but it seems like operations have changed recently and people are destroying them online.

I've had USAA since I've had my own insurance, just like my father before me.

I will say, their customer service had definitely taken a nosedive. We'd had a couple of frustrating incidents with them in the last we years, so besides the cost issue, I'm only really frustrated to switch because I don't like change and I'd used them since I'd bought insurance and its easy to have it in the same app as my banking etc.

the making us fill out two separate claims when the mechanics didn't re-install the guard correctly should have been the nail in the coffin for them tbh. because now there is an additional "object on road" on his history which is the last thing needed.

Yeah, I think my dad has been a member since the early 70s, so God willing he'll get there soon enough.

I'll say, I've had zero issues with USAA as a customer. They paid out on a roof claim a fees years back (albeit with depreciation) and my auto policy is pretty reasonable, though I only have two claims in the past ~10 years, neither my fault.

I am with Liberty Mutual for Home/Auto for 6 years and the prices are too high. I am looking to switch. I got quotes from Progressive and Allstate and even Geico. Allstate seems good but Progressive Auto is very cheap for the same coverage. Home insurance is through "Homesite". Does anyone have experience with Progressive/Homesite? They make you install an app on your phone to track your driving which seems annoying.

Allstate has a stupid commercial that implies you can unlatch taco meats gate by standing on a railing. Don't give them business.

Why would anyone do all this work yourself?

Get a broker to do the work for you, and more efficiently than you can.

I did talk to a broker, he was annoying and tried to steer me toward Travelers and some other small-name company.

I like doing things myself as I am in control of things. Progressive was much cheaper for the coverage I was looking for.

Their homeowners is ***** My husband is a roofer and deals with them all the time. Most of the claims end up with lawyers because they deny prettyuch every claim, or try to nickel and dime what they pay out for.

We have had really good experience with auto though. Its weird.

I get it. My husband had USAA his whole life. But they became so bad we left. Heck- we have actually moved the majority of our banking elsewhere too after issues with them and deposits. We do use them for homeowners though- that is one thing they are fantastic at still.

The "I've been with xyz company for 85 years" is a weird flex. They are all good at handling claims. They also all jack the rates up on suckers who stay for more than 3-4 years.

That's shocking. Theyre consistently the highest rated in customer satisfaction. Ugh.

They just had to testify in front of congress about all of this. They are alleged to have internal policies to delay and deny- adjusters have testified to this under oath. Some of the worst was in Florida and Georgia after the hurricanes. Some of the worst we have seen were after the derecho and Beryl where they claimed the hail hits were scientifically proven to have occurred at least 6 months before and were definitely not caused by the hail during the derecho or the torn shingles couldn't possibly be from Beryl. Heck- my husband still has clients coming out of legal from that (State Farm wasnt the only one, but they were one of the worst).

They may be the top rated for those who never have to make claims, but in our experience they are a nightmare to deal with if you have a claim. And if you dont know what you are actually entitled to, you WILL get screwed by them.

I have had Amica for years and they have been very good to me. Great with a roof replacement and a car totaled (not at fault). They don't waste a bunch of money of stupid advertising. Also, no local agent, you get assigned someone. Website works well.

If you go with Progressive, per a conversation with an agent a couple of weeks ago about my experience on a claim, don't go direct. Get an agent. I have direct, and they denied a comprehensive claim. The agent I spoke to said she had never had a claim denied in 20 years. We went into a deep dive about mine, and she said there's no way it should have been denied.

As an independent agent I agree. The rates are the same, but we get people calling all the time for help, but we can't help them because they went direct. Two completely separate entities.

Progressive Insurance:

- You don't have to install telematics, but it saves about 10% on your initial policy with them
- Their specialty lines product coverage is second to none and dirt cheap. I have a 1996 SeaArk quote on my desk right now and the premium is $141/year. I have a 2023 Kawasaki Kat820 Mule quote on my desk right now for $146/year
- We have seen rate decreases on new business at the beginning of 2026, and the renewals aren't going up like the industry has seen over the last 5 years - they are flat or decreasing.

As for people's stories about rates/premiums - take them with a grain of salt. If they are paying too much they likely aren't telling you about the speeding ticket and at-fault accident on their driving record. If their rate is too good to be true they are probably the guy who catches the biggest fish and always pays the cheapest rates on his electricity too. LOL

As an independent agent, we have a hard time beating Amica. And when we do it's such a small amount that we suggest they just stay with Amica. I've never heard a bad thing about them.

I agree. Most of these companies aren't even American anymore. Almost all their processing happens in some 3rd world country. Loyalty is dead. Just look after yourself is what pays these days.
