Yeah, this is a boomer brag thread - but when did you buy your first house and how much did it cost.

As for me - it was 1991 and house cost $89,900. 2130 sq ft - 3 bed, two bath.

$100 each for houses on St. James, Tennessee, and NY Avenue. That's okay though because they were so popular with people getting out of jail (or just visiting). Would have been when I was a little kid in the late 70s.

House built by original owner in 1952
It's said he drove every nail himself
Exterior walls were old wood actual 2" x 12" tongue-in-groove lumber and covered in asbestos shakes. The utility bills on that house were fantastic

3 bed, 2 bath

1450 sq ft on 3/4 acre lot on a creek across the street from a school, so really no neighbors behind me or across the street

$74,000

I loved that house

2020

$255k for a 2011 1750 sq ft, 3 bed, 2 bath. 6 years later and same style houses in the neighborhood are being listed just over $400k.

May be on the small side, but I'm glad we got it when we did. I'm not sure we'd be able to afford one today with how the housing market has gone. The next generation is ****ed

Tanya and I bought a 4/2/2 1984 sq ft house in Copperfield in 2008. Paid $170k for it. Sold it six years later for a small profit, but I can't imagine what it's worth now with what's happened to housing costs in Texas.

2006 - about $114k. It was a brand new build in Houston off 288.
1020 sq ft I think. Maybe 1106. 3/2/2

I was 26 and single. Owned it only about a year cause I got engaged/married. Got super lucky I was able to almost break even cause they still were building brand new houses in the neighborhood.

1988. $133k for a new 1107 sq ft, 2br/2ba condo with single car garage in Northern CA.

9+% adjustable mortgage that went up 0.5% every 6 mos, plus PMI, HOA dues & taxes that went into an escrow.

Rate was north of 12% when we sold for $175k 4 yrs later to move back to TX. Bought a brand new 3500 sq ft in DFW suburb for that same $175k.

Glad I could inspire a thread for you!

Bought our first (and current) home in 2017. 2,100 sqft. Paid $280k and did around $40k of renovations (inside). In 2019 we renovated the backyard (added a pool/covered patio/new fence) for another $50k.

Have about 5 more years and will have the mortgage paid off completely.

2014, 1700 sqft 3/2.5 on a postage stamp lot for $172,500. Sold in early 2019 for about $250k, Zillow says it's worth $415k today.

Per Street View, new owners haven't done much to it. Damn Bradford pear is still in the backyard.

2002 - was a 1978, 1,500 sq/ft 3/2 in the Raintree subdivision in College Station. Purchased for $102K and sold in 2006 for $125K. Should have kept it for a rental but needed the equity for down payment on a house with acreage a little further out of town.
