Probably was harder and zero accommodations.
This was before the alleged dumbing down of the SAT because standardized tests are wassis
This was back before they rescaled it. It used to be basically an English language IQ test, and when that was realized, it was modified in the early 90's to be less directly an IQ test equivalent. Yeah, Rice was…special.

Took the SAT with a raging headache from a hangover my Sr year and got a VERY disappointing 1180, but the score was good enough to be admitted to A&M for Fall '79 and I decidied not to retake it. All the example tests I had taken before all got me mid 1300s scores.
I have no doubt my score would have improved drastically, and could have been enough to open doors for me at many places, but I had zeroed in at A&M by that point and lost interest in the other places I was pursuing. I've played the 'what if' game many times in my head over the years, but I keep coming back to how much of a difference that A&M has made in my life, and I realize I made the best decision.

1992, took it one time, zero prep, 1050. Split was pretty even.

This guy sounds like a hoot. I'm shocked by his choice of major. Must have been an impulse decision.
took the SAT my junior year in 1978 - I think it was a 990. It was enough to get into any public university in Texas back then. Never took it my senior year, that I recall.
and those grade point averages before GPA inflation took over. Back when a C was a C, no C+, C- etc. Your avg was 79 - you got 2 grade points - same as the classmate with a 70 average.

I had a very lopsided score in favor of verbal. Thank God for sales careers
I had a 1360 in 1982 and was admitted to A&M, Rice, and tu (Plan II).
Almost went to Rice, but when I was there for an admitted student day, during lunch, one of the students whose college I was assigned to be in said, "Are you sure you want to go here?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Well", he said, "the tests are hard and the women are ugly".
First I laughed. He wasn't laughing. Then I started thinking about it. Done deal for me after a long drive home.
Fast forward many years later, my son gets a single test 36 ACT and is a National Merit Finalist.
Denied flat out from tu (out of state), waitlisted at Rice.
College admissions are a joke now.
