I had a very lopsided score in favor of math. Thank God for engineering careers.

Due to my rural East Texas education, my math score was over double my verbal.

These early 80s numbers are just more evidence that public schools have been dumbed way down. Every Aighdyn, Breydyn, and Brynnley gets special "accommodations" today. Teachers aren't allowed to give out bad grades. Tests have been made "more fair."

took the SAT my junior year in 1978 - I think it was a 990. It was enough to get into any public university in Texas back then. Never took it my senior year, that I recall.

and those grade point averages before GPA inflation took over. Back when a C was a C, no C+, C- etc. Your avg was 79 - you got 2 grade points - same as the classmate with a 70 average.

Shoot, even that was inflated by some standards. There were schools that would give a 2.0 for an 80, 1.9 for a 79, and 1.1 for a 71 etc. Basically eliminated ties for valedictorian. All that led to colleges recalculating GPA based your transcript. When that became too much, they just went by class rank. And now we have the Top 10% rule.

This thread makes me feel much better about being (still) drunk for my SATs. Made a 1250 and A&M required a 1200 at the time (late 90s). I'm positive I could have done much better sober & with some studying, but then I tanked my GREs.

I'm seeing a lot of 1080"s type scores from the early 80"s from folks who took the SAT hung over.

You're my people. I'm sure you're doing well.

p.s. - it was legal to be hungover if you were 18 in the early 80's in Texas.

Took the SAT in 1979. I went on an all night trip to the Pedernales fishing at Reimer's with my non-college bound buddies the night before the test. Left from there and drove straight to the test center. 1290 score, plenty to get into A&M back then.

Not gonna deny it. His mom and my grandmother were den mothers for the boy scouts. Dad and him were pretty good friends too.

Connections go me in. I got me out. I got myself in for my masters and got myself in an honors fraternity, too.

For some reason boo say and booze was more important at 18 than it was at 25. Or at least I realized I need to make something of myself.

I went to college like they asked me to, but they didn't ask my friends.

Also took a couple AP tests, can't remember those results.

Most of the scores listed here would not get you into A&M today. In 1984, I walked in with a 970. The modern "we've become a diploma mill" crowd is ******ed.

You can add 150-200 points to a score from the
80's to equate to the same score today.

I don't want to brag, but I have left my house for social engagements three times in the last six weeks.

Ah, so you kept moving in an increasingly-boring direction.

At one point, Clements had "At least we're not Hobby" as our unofficial slogan.

Did you happen to know Jonathan Lazerus and Jimmy Murray (both '03ers)?

1110 was good enough for me in 2000, but I was also #4 in my HS class and an auto admit, so I may or may not have hung out with some buddies and some girls the night before.

Took mine fall of 98. Got a 1080.

Didn't really have a great counseling program at my high school. Nobody really did much education on SAT and ACT test scores and their true importance. I never heard about test prep programs. I showed up on a Saturday morning after a football game (was in band, and thankfully it was a home game and we didn't have any competition that weekend), sat down and just took the test. Pretty sure I answered every question, a lot were best guesses. Was able to take short 5 minute naps in-between sections.

I obviously wasn't too concerned. Knew I was going to community college and would be transferring into TAMUG.

I had a similar experience in Fall 1984. Our HS counselors were useless.
