One single television, specs don't matter. Not intended to be a brag thread, I just need some perspective / reality check. Aaaaand go!

Summer of 2008, "Benny" bought me a $2200 52" Sony 120Hz LCD TV off of Amazon. It was $2600 at Best Buy.

Tanya (7 months pregnant at the time) wanted me to get the set for Father's Day instead of buying it myself.

My parents bought a 60" tv back in 1987. The delivery people had to get damn near a backhoe to get it into our house. It cost $2,800 back then.

Nowadays, the same size tv is flat, LCD, ultra hd 4k, surround sound, Roku ready, only weighs 20 pounds, and can be carried in one hand on your way to pack it in your trunk/backseat. You can get a great one with high refresh speed and all these for under $900 today. Unreal.

Similar to dabo, we bought a fancy 58 inch "plasma" tv in 2008 off Amazon for about $2600. Bought it thinking the true black pixels were worth it. Still 1080p max (broadcasts from Dish Network were at best 720p) and pretty poor picture quality compared to TVs today. Not a Smart TV so still had to use the PlayStation 3 to play DVDs delivered from Netflix since I don't think you could stream back then. I'm old. I think around 2020 we bought a Samsung Frame TV for around $1500 thinking it might look like an art piece when not in use. It does not fool anybody.. it is a TV with a very close wall mount.

$1800 in 2007

That same tv would cost about $250 now, if even that

Think i spent 1400 on a 40" samsung back in 2006? Then over a decade ago the thing gave out. I opened it up and replaced a capacitor and the bloody thing still hasn't died.

About $1500 I think.

Then we discovered Best Buy Outlets, and will likely just buy open box from there for cheap going forward.

No idea, maybe 3K 15 years ago. It's crazy how much tvs have dropped in price.

2600 back in 2004.

Most recently, about 450. I really want an OLED but the size I want is about 1800 even at Costco.

Got a 55" Sony Bravia with 5.1 surround sound and a playstation 3 back in the day for like $3000 (insurance, HDMI cables, everything).

Last month, we got a 65" LG (The A Series one) with a 5 year warranty for $375 at Costco. With 3 kiddos under 5, they won't care about quality for 10-15 years. What a difference 2 decades make.

My parents had one of those enormous projection tvs, they bought it in the early 00s. Before that our living room TVs had tubes and a 13 channel tuner that had the extra dial that went to UHF.

It was so cumbersome we left it in the house when we sold it!!!

Maybe $700. I don't have to have the biggest or best and that was the value spot for a long while. Now it's much lower unless you have to have a ridiculous size or resolution

I think around $900 for a 52" Sharp flatscreen around 2010. It died after about four years.

I recently bought a Samsung 65" at Costco for about $300

My parents had an enormous 45" rear projection TV back in the early 80's that probably cost over $2,000. We moved into a new house a year or so later that had a skylight that shone on the TV and damn near rendered the TV unusable. It eventually was moved to the master bedroom, we loved to hook up the Atari 2600 and Coleco Vision consoles to play on the giant screen though.

A 50" Samsung DLP in 2005. Think it was around $1800, ordered it off TigerDirect. Loved that TV.

About $700 for a 65" about 6 years ago. Replaced it with a better TV a couple months ago for under $500.

About $1,800 for a 55" that was about 18" deep and had to sit on a stand that was another $200. 2005.

nervy, if you're looking to buy a set now, this is the one to go with. It's 93 lbs, so you might want to buy through a local retailer and have them install it for you.

I dunno, but I know the one we have now (which had for a long time) was well over $2k.

I know whatever my mom has was $2k and it isn't that old - but my dad was a huge TV person. Every house we go look at its "that space isn't big enough for my tv" lol.

I've always wanted a Frame tv and that's actually what prompted the thread. I'm having a VERY difficult time justifying the price.

Samsung makes very nice TVs, but a Frame TV is QLED and OLED >> QLED. Just in case you didn't know.

And I own a Samsung QLED.

One of my friends has a Frame TV. It looks very nice on the wall, but no idea about the quality or longevity.

Generally, also consider the UI and any built-in ad elements in whatever TV you're buying.

According to the internet, the Frame UU (Samsung) SUUUUUUCKS but is bypassed with Apple TV. If I'm spending that much on a tv, I don't want to have to bypass it.

Although to be fair, I hate Sony and LG's UI too.
