I didn't say it wasn't a natural ingredient. It's an ingredient that doesn't belong in Vanilla Ice Cream. Hope that helps

Agreed Blue Bell is trash these days. I'll eat Creamy Creations before Blue Bell.

I'm team Jenis. They don't have the most traditional flavors but I have learned that they know what tastes good more than I do so I trust it.
And for the record here are the ingredients in their Vanilla flavor:

Milk, Cream, Cane Sugar, Nonfat Milk, Tapioca Syrup, Honey, Vanilla Extract, Sea Salt, Vanilla Bean Specks

I suppose the lack of eggs is a bad sign but I like the texture.

Depends on the quality of chickens does it not?

You can get a pretty good look at an egg by sticking your head up a chicken

No, that's not it

My problem with blue bell isn't that I think their product is bad. Its a solid choice but definitely not the best. My issue is every time they offer some amazing flavor they pull if off the shelf. The following have all disappeared, some for obvious reasons

1. Banana Split (G.O.A.T)
2. Gingerbread cookie (slap yo momma good)
3. Red velvet cake (slap yo momma)
4. Peach Cobbler (slap yo momma)

Stop f'n with my emotions Blue Bell. Im moving on to Tillamook, brownie batter, and Marionberry Pie

2013 or around then is the last time they made this one. It was the only time I've ever had it, and I've looked for it every year since. So sad that they won't bring it back.

All this talk of ice cream takes me back to old creamery on main campus days.

Yes Snowaggie! I remember going as a kid in the mid-90's and for whatever reason it shut down. Was there a Dairy program for animal science at the University or did the creamery source the milk from a local farmer? I've always wondered about that.

Blue Bell is still good! Can't beat Natural Vanilla Bean. I'm a Braums Ice Cream fan. They have a great selection. Too bad y'all dont have one in BCS...

Like another poster said above, I started making my own homemade ice cream and I prefer it over anything store bought.

I'm sure plenty of people know more about the history than do I. Do you still remember it being on main campus then? I thought it moved to a shiny new facility across the tracks in the late 80's.

I do know that I would get a gigantic chocolate malt on my way to a weekly soil science lab, then proceed to go into a post-consumption coma trying to get through those 3 hours. I also probably gained 20 pounds that semester.

It's incredibly easy to make your own ice cream for much less money and it will have better ingredients. I keep my ice cream maker canister in the freezer at all times so I can go from craving to eating in 20 min.

I do like salt and straw's salted cookie dough ice cream though.

Care to share any recipes? I make some occasionally with an old hand crank maker. I use:
2 pt half & half
2 tblspn vanilla
1 cup of sugar

I'll add fresh peaches when peaches are in season.

But I would be down to try some other recipes if you have a good one.

That's hilarious! I don't go back that far. I remember the second location across the tracks.1990-95 when we'd stop in.

I apologize if this post deviates from the original purpose of the thread, however, I feel that it is warranted given the seriousness of Ice Cream & Texas A&M in a historical context.

Howdy Mathguy64 and Snowaggie, et al. I spoke with my Mother who was in the Fightin' Texas Aggie Centennial Graduating Class of 1976. She graduated with a Degree in Biomedical Science, so I trust her knowledge and remembrance on this topic.

When she began attending TAMU the Male:Female student ratio was roughly 80:20 which doubled for Females each year while she was a student, from what she recollects.

Now, across the street from The Pavilion (424 Spence St) was the Main Campus Creamery, which operated like a Campus Dairy Store where Agricultural students sold their processed food items such as meat, eggs, ice cream, cheese, etc. She equated it to a "Tiny Lil' Braums", which was a great spot, because across the street was where the female students were first housed.

Also, she remembers that Texas Tech was the only other school that had a Beef/Dairy/Creamery operation on a University campus.

The Pavilion, she explained, was a dirt floor rodeo arena that had horse and other livestock showings. Also, there were old horse barns near the Business building.

The animals from the Animal Science Dept. were located across the R.R. tracks near what is the present day Rosenthal Meat Building. She estimated that by the mid-late 1990's the creamery ceased their own dairy production and outsourced to Blue Bell.

I've made the ice cream from Ad Hoc. It's decadent.

2 cup whole milk
2 cup heavy cream
10 egg yolks
14 tbs sugar
1 vanilla bean

I've made it as well, but was done after about 4 bites. It's definitely meant to be eaten in small quantities.

I've also done the chocolate, the cherry and made a chocolate cherry with the cherry base and folded in chocolate chunks.

Yeah. They are amazing and made for a couple of tablespoons at a time.

Tillamook's best flavor is Malted Moo Shake, vanilla malt ice cream with fudge chunks.

Also i saw a new Blue Bell flavor today, black raspberry chip. It looks like a temu version of Graeter's signature flavor, so I'm sure Texans will fall in love with it and assume Blue Bell invented it.

Interesting, after reading this same thread I decided to get some Hagen Dazs, and it's pretty damn good.

I visited Michigan State with my daughter in February. They still have a school dairy and creamery on campus. Even in the middle of February, the line was out the door for their ice cream.

A&M tore down their creamery about 30 years ago and shut down the dairy for... A parking garage.

I think the ice cream you like depends on what criteria you value highest:

Tillamook:
High cream content
OK flavors

Creamy Creations:
Medium cream content
Good flavors

Blue Bell:
Low cream content
Good flavors

I like Tillamook vanilla, for "special flavors" I generally prefer Creamy Creations. BB doesn't have enough cream for me to waste the calories on. YMMV

Better a Spartan than a Wolverine right? That's really cool Burdizzo! A lot of the ice cream parlours up north typically shut down during the winter months.

I was at the Tillamook creamery yesterday and they now serve butter dipped vanilla cones. It was decadent! They also had some limited edition flavors that were pretty good

I also picked up some 13 year aged cheddar that looked tasty
