Saw the "Elvis" at A&M thread, thought of this.

So my question is, what band, at the time they played A&M, was the the "biggest"?

I would say R.E.M. in I think 1989. The "Green" tour, had a few very popular songs on that record, and they were already "College music" legends at that point. They were touring with a Platinum album.

A real coup for the school to nab that event.

Garth filling up Reed for 3 consecutive nights was pretty big. But he's not a rock star.

Ludacris and Nickelback were the only big names that played while I was there. Except maybe when WWF was @ Reed and Stone Cold was there.

Yeah, I think I heard about the Garth thing. But that's part of why I said "rock"...and also because it's not hard to get a big turnout for a country star in B-CS.

I actually did. A few friends from work wanted to go. I remember the lead singer liked to say the F word a lot. Turnout wasn't that great.

I think Everclear played at Reed in 2001 or 2002.

I wasn't on anything, but I don't remember it being full. Could be because I was in the first row on the end, and there was a lot of open space down on the floor. They only let so many people down there.

Me, too. I never saw so many high school kids at an Aggie basketball event. Never saw them again, either.

Yeah the floor maximum for that place is just ridiculous. It looks half empty when it's "full." Don't think they really care since there haven't been many events that size there.

I was at that show, too, and Reed didn't seem even close to full.

Hey AA, live in Austin too..sometimes,grew up there." You are correct ,Sir". REM. Remeber when Michael Stipe got pissed at us cuz he didn't understand the hissing? They will never be back. Cheap Trick was cool too.

Doesn't biggest take into account how much mula, records sold, awards, etc. REM hands down. U-2 would have been nice, but they probably did not like G. Rollie.

Nickelback is about to overtake R.E.M. on album sales.

I say Bob Hope, can't get any bigger than that!

By the way Reed Arena doesn't count that really isn't on Campus it is across the tracks!

I hate to break it to you but the A&M campus extends far far past Wellborn.

I think in terms of at their peak, it's definitely REM at G. Rollie White. Yeah they got more popular later, but they also didn't tour for 5 years after The Green Tour.

Honorable mention - Digital Underground at DeWare Field House. BTW - back in LA, my next door neighbor was friends with Shock-G aka. Humpty and had him over to her house a few times.

Cheap Trick, and INXs early 80's. I think Elton John was at G. Rollie in the early '70s.
