I don't mind it so much as it kinda shows you don't have to be some criminal mastermind to be the one that takes the throne (at least for a period of time).
You hear about it from time to time when rich kids or suits get mixed up with the easy money of the drug game and suddenly they come face to face with some thug that doesn't give a **** how much money you have or what it might do to their rep.
The situation Walt has found himself in with the Nazis is a direct result of him getting away from the "safe and secure" operation that Gus was running. As Mike said -- if he had just shut up and done his job everything would have been fine.
He wanted to be king. He became king... For a short time. He's now coming to the realization that it takes more then just being the smartest to stay the king.
