Would totally watch a Saul Goodman spinoff. The endless possibilities...

As others have mentioned, Odenkirk is just playing an over the top sketch character, a la his Mr Show days, but he commits so fully and is genuinely such a talented actor that it totally works in such a tense, serious drama. IMO, brilliant, inspired casting.

Speaking of Mr Show, what a way to reintroduce that show to younger audiences:

"Hey, would you like to watch the closest America's ever come to Monty Python, starring Tobias Funke and Saul Goodman?"

I watched "Live Free or Die" again last night. It get's me really excited for this season.

On the other hand, my wife will be out of town for the next 2 episodes. So now I will have to fight the urge to open this thread for a couple weeks. Damnit!

I've just figured out how the series ends: both Walt and Jesse die. Hear me out.

*Spoilers*

Every lieutenant has gone down at some point. First Walt killed Crazy 8's guy with the gas. Then Tuco shoots his lieutenant at the junkyard for embarrassing him. Then Hector Salamanca loses his nephews to Hank in the Home Depot parking lot. Then Gus takes out his lieutenant at the lab as a warning to Walt. And finally, Jesse takes out the last young member of the Salamanca clan in Mexico as they're escaping.

Every head has gone down. Walt murders Crazy 8 in the basement. Hank takes out Tuco. Gus takes out the Salamanca head in Mexico (Luis?). Walt sets up the pipe bomb to take out both Hector Salamanca and Gustavo Fring in one blow.

We know Jesse is loyal. That's been said directly, and we see it indirectly in his defense of Walt to Gus. We also know that Walt has gone from harmless high school chemistry teacher to sociopathic serial killer. His loyalty is to himself, something he proved when he was willing to poison a kid to get Jesse to help him kill Gus. You can argue loyalty to his family is there, but given his erratic behavior, I'm not sure it is.

A theme running through the show is that the lieutenant dies, followed by head. In most cases the head was directly responsible for the lieutenant's death.

So here's how it plays out: at some point Fring's Chilean connection comes out for revenge. Walt sacrifices Jesse. Whether he does it purely out of self-defense or whether he taunts Jesse in the process with the information that he let the girlfriend die (and you can argue that she was Jesse's lieutenant) will depend on how bad he has broken. After that, maybe the Chileans take out his family or maybe he uses Saul's connection to get them new identities and they're living somewhere in the mountains. But in the end, Walt is going down, and judging by the amount of weapons he has stockpiled in the trunk of his new car, he's going down swinging.

That's my prediction.

Best end I can think of: Walt is holed up in a cabin/fortress with all of his weaponry, waiting for the fight to start, and he starts hacking up blood and croaks. Cancer got him.
