Walt screwed himself.

The season finale of seasons 3 and 4 were better, I thought.

In the sense that old Walt was too impotent to fight if they did take advantage of him in the buyout or steal his resesrch/ip, I'd agree. Still doesn't mean they were innocent.

I think there are indications they exploited Walt. We just never get enough of the backstory to know for sure.

There are tons more indications he just took the money to pay rent & regrets it. Fits his personality.

Let's see what were all the season finales again:

1. Tuco beating the piss out of one of his guys and walt and jesse just standing there freaking out.

2. Plane crash over walt's house

3. Jesse shooting Gus's chemist

4. Hank blowing up Gus...I won...Lily of the Valley

5a. W.W. on the toilet

As for the grey matter thing I think walt and gretchen had a little flirting thing and she chose elliot. Hank probably got all pissy and took a small buy out that equaled rent. Gretchen and elliot felt a little guilty and offered him a job and paying for his chemo. Nothing more to all that.

Laser pointer scene was my favorite part of last night's episode.

Yep. Either that or when Walt pulls up the chair in the diner. Not the conversation, but exactly when he pulls up the chair. Perfectly shot.

I thought the scenes with Walt coming into Gretchen and Elliot's home were even better than the actual laser pointer. Him sitting in the courtyard, standing down the hall, closing the big doors, I thought that was amazing.

Someone may have referenced it but the gun continuing to move back and forth after the ammo ran out, and Walt walks by and it is still moving reminded me of Tuco's car that kept
Bouncing after the shoot out.

I also think final scene of Walt laying in a meth lab - one constructed by his "students" Jesse and Todd - gave him a sense of pride and also left no doubt who was the great Heisenberg. He didn't get that satisfaction with Gray Matter.

Still amazed how satisfying that finale was.

Now that I think about it, BB stole many elements from Lost. Plane crash, secret lab, protaginist dying, lottery numbers...just to name a few.

Really? HANK turned into a rogue DEA agent and took out Gus? What show were you watching?

Laser pointer, Walt strolling through Gretchen and Elliott's house, and the cafe scene were all nails.

I absolutely loved the justice of the Lydia situation. Had she left well enough alone, she would still be alive. But no, she had to be "safe". So she threatened Walt's family, including his baby daughter.

And now she's dead.

I'm thinking Gretchen and Elliot came from well-to-do families so they were able to bum around without any worrries and help their buddy Walt out developing and doing research for a slow starting company like Grey Matter.

Meanwhile Walt is making all the breakthroughs and pouring his blood and sweat into this thing. However he can barely afford to feed his family. Instead of his buddies helping him out they force him to sell his shares and all but the shirt off his back to keep his family afloat.

This is probably the second betrayel of Gretchen(the first being the failed romance in their research days) and meek pre-Heisenberg Walt folds like a cheap tent and gives in.

Walt didn't have a family when he left. He and Gretchen were together. He spent a weekend with her family and then ditched her. Walt was insecure (probably because of her family's wealth) and left her, and being a someone whose pride led to his downfall in many ways, he ran from the company too.

Walt was too prideful to accept their help, and it tore him up to see Jr taking donations. I do think he contributed a great deal and it burned him up to see them distancing on Charlie Rose. So he felt justified to use them as a conduit for the $$$, and scaring the bejeezus out of them a bit.

I guess if Grey Matter's history was important at that point in the show it would have been fleshed out in their last meeting.

Not even sure what you're talking about regarding the hank walt thing. I put hanks name in by mistake in that post(brain fart). I make typos and errors all the time in my posts because I write how I think. Don't give a s***.

Yaah sorry the claim Walt made of selling his son's birthright is what threw me off considering it's kind of hard to sell your son's birthright if you sold it before he was even conceived.

I thought the scene in the apt was pretty amazing too. When Skylar was talking to Marie on the phone. I assumed Walt was going to walk into the room at any moment, but when they changed the camera angle and he was behind the column ... I thought that was awesome.

IMO the thing that kills the wire in comparison (and in retrospect) is that its final season was the weakest (by far)

plus, like almost all shows, it's not aging well

This was mostly revealed when Gretchen discovered that Walt was telling Skyler they were paying for his medical bills.

Guys, we don't know why he left Gray Matter, so it's all speculation.
