I think it is pretty darn significant that "Mike's guy" that was sent on a lengthy, multi-state mission that could blow up the whole operation was Jesse. Image if he got pulled over. A young hood driving a barrel of mehtylamine across state lines? Yeah, that will go over well.

Mike is now a force of one. A powerful one, but just one nevertheless.

Skyler dumping her ashes into Walt's "51st Birthday" mug was a nice touch as well.

Also, Skylar is swimming in the deep end now, both literally and figuratively. She is in over her head. Damn, Anna Gunn and Bryan Cranston were putting on a clinic during that scene. The first time I can really remember being impressed with Gunn's chops. She was holding her own in that scene with Cranston.

they were both fantastic. Both me and Mrs Risp were in awe of that scene and had to pause and rewatch. Epic scene.

I am curious how they will get from the present time (just turned 51) to the flash forward scene from episode 1 (where he is turning 52) in the remaining episodes. They've covered 1 calendar year in 4 seasons + 4 episodes, now we are going to leap forward at some point.

Pretty heavy handed messages with the ticking clocks at the end.

Ol Jock- I'm curious how you came out sympathizing more with walt in that conversation (or at least understanding POV)? not trying to flame, but at this point in the show, it's clear to me that walt is full of crap, manipulating everyone only to what he wants (without any consideration for their needs, including Jesse, Skylar, Hank, etc.).

That discussion was indeed fantastic, and while a non-omniscient person might think that walt was making good points, it's been very clear for awhile that walt has done terrible things to his family and those close to him. maybe not directly, but his actions have always had dire consequences for people he says he cares about. and when those people express their displeasure for being put in those situations, walt turns the manipulation up even more. All so he can feel better about himself or pump up his ego.

Skylar, Jesse, etc. are no saints, but they at least have shown some humanity, some restraint and some concern for others. Walt has shown no concern for anyone but himself (despite his protestations that he's doing this "all for his family").

Perhaps the watch was foretelling of Skylar's wish. Walt's time is up and the cancer has returned....

I think ultimately, Walt has only ever looked out for himself, and he's satiated his need for money and power. But in his mind, I think he's still deluded enough to think that he's in it for the family. To that end, I think his speech to Skylar about not feeling guilty about Ted was meant to be interpreted as Walt talking to himself and justifying all that he has done. And it's also why he won't let go of his kids, and he won't let his wife kick him out of the house or out of bed anymore. That would threaten the notion that he's in it for the family, and that's all that's really keeping him tethered to his old life.

Walt isn't duplicitous. He's just convinced himself that he's not evil. He's becoming a sociopath.

UK, that's my point. He doesn't have anyone left. He's used to commanding a small army. Now he's just him.

No doubt, but Jesse is one of two people who know how to cook the blue stuff. The other is someone Mike hates and doesn't trust. You don't send Jesse unless you have no other option.

Every episode has me on the edge of my seat and having no idea what is going to happen next. Damn I love this show.

I agree. Between that decision and the cars, Walt is not doing things the way Gus did. He's making a lot of mistakes and his hubris won't let him recognize that.

After Hank noticed Lydia had on mismatched shoes, we laughed about how he doesn't miss a thing... except what's right in front of him. Funny he's now being promoted into the position of his former boss who had the same problem.

I dunno, now that Hank knows Walt didn't cheat on Skylar, I think it's going to all come together for him pretty soon. The extra cell phone, not being around, the car crash in front of the laundry, the flashy cars, W.W. not standing for Walt Whitman in Gale's journal, etc.

but he has. skylar has asked him numerous times to stop (this episode being the most recent). he doesn't seem to care at all that he's made her completely scared and grossed out by him. he doesn't care that he's put his family in harm's way (much more than they ever would have been prior to his starting to make meth). And he could have made other decisions that would have been much more "loyal" to his family (like accepting the money from his former colleagues).

in my mind, to accept that walt has been loyal is to myopically see things only from his perspective and not from anyone else's.

I dont see why Hank would poison Walt Jr. I think Walt is going to discover Jessie sooner or later though.
