I would say that the methylamine they stole from the bottom would have minimal to no dilution from the water added to the top of the tank. From what I understand, methylamine is slightly more dense than water, therefore, the methylamine would sink when mixed with water (and vice versa, the added water would float). I'm not a chemist or engineer, just work with chemicals at work, so take it FWIW.

Yeah, the methylamine must've been less dense than water. They were taking 1000 gal of Methylamine and replacing it with 820 gal (i think) of water.

My mistake about its water solubility. Methylamine is indeed water soluble.

Another good one. The minute the train came into play you knew the kid would somehow play in.

One thing that struck me was that for the second time this season Jesse came up with the master plan. Did he start taking night classes over the break?

Sobriety can have amazing results. He obviously comes from a smart family. He's just NEVER applied himself before.

Plus, he started to get his sh** together last season when he was given more responsibility.

how long would 18 barrels last. It seems like it lok them about a month to use the last barrel but Walt wanted to speed things up. so i am thinking this will buy them 4-5 months.

I'm guessing it is still infinitely easier to boost a railcar of methylamine than it is to procure enough industrial-grade ammonia needed to produce industrial-grade methylamine.

The quality of ammonia needed to produce good quality methylamine would trigger all sorts of Homeland Security alarms if a regular dude happened to try and buy some. Windex would not cut it at all.

I gotta be honest. I had completely forgotten about that kid until they turned around and saw him at the end of the show. I guess I had just assumed the spider would be what mattered, not the boy. And even then, I guess I expected that spider to play a role much later than this episode.

That was my thought as well. I put the kid out of my mind thinking it would come back in a later episode - akin to the opening scene with Walt in the diner a couple shows ago. We still don't know where that will come into play.

Holy ****. That episode completely knocked me on my ass.

What I can't wait to see next week is Walt's reaction, as I'm sure is the case with most of you. The fact that there's even a question about how exactly he'll react says a lot about how far gone Walt is. Just crazy.

Another two thoughts from me - if the methylene was being sent to Houston, why was it not tranported by ship?
And the beauty of the train heist is that they can do it again in the future since they so far did not get caught (different location and different reason to stop the train)?

Jessie loves kids. Kids dying tear him up. I can't imagine this doesn't have severe adverse affects on him, possibly even causing a relapse.

While i loved this episode, i think it was a bit of a reach. I can't imagine jessie having enough knowledge of rail tanker cars to come up with this plan. I suppose Lydia could have supplied them with schmatics of rail cars and the specific types of connections for the hoses, etc but this was jessie's plan, not mike's or lydia's and i don't see jessie being able to conceive of a heist like this. Lydia would have had access to know the seal numbers but even if they didn't match, it would have lead to an investigation between Madrigal and the importer with the importer on the hook. Madrigal would be expected to refuse delivery of any railcar whose seals don't match the paperwork.

we've seen the end of them searching for methylamine. Remember, less than a year from now Walt is already on the run bigtime(as in already purchasing a massive gun and more). No need to worry about future methylamine. Suggestions on this thread say anywhere from 4-6 months supply or maybe more. That solution is solved. More likely we'll see them producing a lot in a hurry as the walls start falling down around Walt. Gotta keep the timeline in mind when looking at the current situation.

It's coming from China so it's probably going straight to our west coast and then shipped out accordingly. They are probably shipping all over the US and not just Houston.

Jesse had the idea to steal it. The logistics could have been worked out by some one else. He suggested the magnet but it was junkyard guy that built it.

I think the Gus' Chilean aspect or the cartel is going to come back next week. They showed Walt and Jesse out in the dessert and a nice SUV and two Hispanic looking guys walking towards them during the preview for next week. Total guess, but that story line is far from complete.

no idea if it will be next week, but this absolutely has to come back up at some point. they made it way too apparent that the cartel would not kill Gus bc of the connections he had back in Chile. honestly i think the first scene of the premiere with Walt at Denny's with the fake identity and getting the gun has to do with that and nothing to do with mike. i think his family, at least skyler and walt jr, are dead bc of them at that point.

As one poster mentioned, I really like the idea of Holly being adopted by Hank and Marie. I think there may have been some foreshadowing with Marie saying she wouldn't let them take Holly away from her. I have always sort of liked Walt Jr., so I hope he lives. Maybe he can work at Denny's and have breakfast all day! Skyler on the other hand I hope is dealt with. She has always been my least favorite character and my distaste for her has only grown with her dealings with Beneke and her constant moodiness and feelings of victimization. I think Walt is a time bomb and when everything finally collapses he will go out in a blaze of glory (with the help of the gun in the trunk).

agreed. this is why i left holly out of the post. i think she becomes the "daughter" of hank and marie, and never knows either of her parents and has to be told eventually who her father was (heisenberg), but we never see that part.
