Little bit off topic, but, when Walt was rolling the barrel through the desert did anyone else get reminded of a Dung Beetle?

Listening to the podcast for the episode right now, and they keep calling that scene the "dung beetle scene".

My guesses:

Marie- The Nazis are going to Hank & Marie's to look for Jesse's confession video. She will get murdered by them.
Jesse- I think he uses his chemical knowledge from Walt to either kill Todd & try to escape or blow up the whole lab killing both of them. He doesn't seem to have much reason to live anymore.
The Nazi's- With both of their cooks gone they need Walt to get back into the business but he can't be found. How do they draw him out of hiding? They go after his family.
Walt- He comes back with the gun to save his family from the Nazi's. I think the ricin is for Lydia. He will need to meet with her to find out where he can find the Nazi's. At the end of the show after everyone else is dead (maybe Skyler & the kids survive) he coughs up blood and collapses finally succumbing to the cancer.

Lyrics to the song played when Walt is rolling the barrel. Take My True Love By The Hand. Lyrics fit perfectly.

Times are getting hard boys
Money's getting scarce
Times don't get no better, boys
Gonna leave this place

Take my true love by her hand
Lead her thru the town
Say good-bye to everyone
Good-bye to everyone

Had a job a year ago
Had a little home
Now I've got no place to go
Guess I'll have to roam

Take my true love by her hand
Lead her thru the town
Say good-bye to everyone
Good-bye to everyone

Every wind that blows, boys
Every wind that blows
Carries me to some new place
Heaven only knows

Take my true love by her hand
Lead her thru the town
Say good-bye to everyone
Good-bye to everyone

Times are getting hard boys
Money's getting scarce
Times don't get no better, boys
Gonna leave this place

Take my true love by her hand
Lead her thru the town
Say good-bye to everyone
Good-bye to everyone

Any significance to the long pause when Skylar slices Walt's hand? Just the fact that his family final has turned on him? That they are capable of harming Walt?

Same shot, three different times in last night's episode.

I'm going to have to rewatch the episode. I was so put off by Walt's complete disregard for Jesse that it tainted everything. Amazing a TV show got that strong of an emotional reaction from me.

It was one thing to be forced into reluctantly ordering his assassination - that struck me as a business/protect the family decision. Then to ordering his torture and telling him about Jane.

Kind of a bad day for Walt

Lost $70m
Watched brother in law killed in front if his eyes
Made a handshake deal with nazis
Watched his mentoree taken away to be killed
Stabbed by his wife
Denounced by his namesake son
His baby calls out for momma instead of dadda
His family has completely disowned him
He has no drug empire.

All he has is $11m. In some ways, he is forced to do what he was trying to get Jesse to do. Leave with no trace and some money.

Show could have ended there and I would have been happy.

Being a dad of four, and a total softy for little ones who can't take care of themselves...for the first time, other than watching an Aggie football game, I yelled at the darn TV when Walt took Holly. It was also the first time I was totally ready to be done with him.

Had to rewatch the phone call because I missed that he was forcing himself into Heisenberg to cover for Skylar...but he did what I was hoping he'd do either way and leave Holly before bailing.

No worries Scientific, I agree with you. BB is an amazing show, absolutely one of the best, but it has all the subtlety of a hand grenade. Call me boring but I prefer realism over shock value, just a personal preference.

Yeah, still not seeing where you're getting this supposed "shock value". A main character died last night and we didn't even see him get shot. We heard the shot and saw Walt's reaction, and later his corpse being thrown in a hole. A show driven by shock value would've shown him getting his brains blown out.

The ONLY instance where you can argue they went for shock value was Gus' face blown off.

Circumstances changed a great deal in between though. He rats him out to the DEA (something Walt wasn't willing to do even when he thought Gus would imminently kill him), caused him to lose most of the $$$/legacy for his family (hitting him where it hurts the most), and in Walt's skewed view, I also see him blaming him for Hank's death for leading him into the middle of it all. Jesse hit Walt where it hurt the most, and Walt returned the favor right back - and was able to do so still in the moment of when he got hurt so his anger and emotion was at its peak (and therefore the hate/callousness peaking in return). It was more of a self/family preservation decision at first that quickly became a very personal, vengeance decision due to new circumstances.

Well obviously there are 4 white pieces and 6 black pieces. The Knight probably signifies Jesse as he is out in the middle of the board closer to the black pieces. He's also situated right next to a pawn as well as in the diagonal of the bishop.

Oh, I thought we were just throwing **** up on the board until something stuck.

Also Walt didn't have a whole lot to stand on/ask for once the nazis got Jesse and decided they were taking him back to get the info out of him.

I can't imagine them being like "oh okay, yea, let's just kill him instead of using him for knowledge of what he just told the DEA."

On the podcast, they mention setting up the board to have the white king be two steps away from being checkmated.

The chessboard is not set up correctly, so I would not read too much into it.

The opening scene was packed with brilliance:

-old school pantsless Walt and goofy Jesse
-Walt conjuring up his first lie and having to pep talk himself
-Walt and Skyler excited about nine extra bucks on some crap they sold on eBay
-the Holly tie-in

Think Walt kills Jesse and, right before Jesse takes his last breath, tells him "I watched Jane die...I win".

Ok. So I wasn't exactly right, but I knew Walt would tell Jesse about Jane. Even still... My jaw dropped.

A corpse falling through the floor of Jesse's house, blowing up Tucco's HQ, Tucco in general, the cuates, one of those twins crawling out of his bed without any legs just to stare down Walt, Gus's death, Todd killing a child, Gus killing his Captain just cause, Walt running over those two dealers out of nowhere, Walt poisoning Brock, la tortuga, Walt essentially killing Jane, Jane's dad causing a damn mid air collision...I'm sure I'm missing plenty

I don't think any of those constitute "shock value". Maybe just me though...

Not trying to be defensive, but what exactly constitutes "shock value" for you? I find pointless child homicide, a decapitated head turtle bomb, a man losing half his face, a normally composed man killing someone out of nowhere, and a legless assailant as pretty dang shocking.

That's why I think Jesse will off himself and Todd when he gets the opportunity to do so. He has to know that Todd is keeping him alive only to learn how to properly cook. He also should realize that as long as he is alive, his ex-gf and Brock are in danger. If Jesse is dead, there will be no more reason to threaten them.

I feel like this is right on...

Also, somehow I think the Ricin being used for Lydia is the writers putting an obvious path out in front of us...but in the end I think Walt uses it somehow on himself.

<<POTENTIAL SPOILERS? AHEAD...TREAD LIGHTLY> >

Saw a comment on some blog saying that Ricin, while poisonous, can sometimes be used in conjunction with chemo to treat cancer...? Hmmmmmm......

I think the problem here is you're confusing "shock value" with "drama".
