I really wanted someone else to start this thread because I mostly wanted to read other people's thoughts.

Outside of Tarintino's cameo, I enjoyed every moment. And it's not that he did a bad job, I just find him distracting.

Completely agree! Loved every minute of it as well, but HATED Tarantino's cameo. He didn't do a terrible job, but he was easily the worst character in the whole movie for me. Everyone else was just perfect I thought.

Very very brutal, but a fantastic movie.

I came away greatly disappointed. It seemed that the movie tried to be gory for the sake of being gory without much of any attention to detail.

Excellent film...brutal, surreal and occasionally hilarious.

The performances (outside of QT's) are tremendous.

It was excellent. Samuel L Jackson is hilarious in this movie.

Don Johnson's crew with the hoods was hilarious.

Awesome flick. This might be my favorite SLJ role ever. Waltz knocked it out of the park again. And I agree, Quentin's role felt extremely forced.

Would have been weird with Will Smith as Django.

I'm not sure for which part, but Kurt Russell was originally casted for the movie, but his role was reduced so much that Quentin got someone else to do it. Also, Sacha Baron Cohen had a role originally, but his character was taken out of the story.

For you Tarantino buffs, this is pretty cool. Here's the whole soundtrack, with commentary by QT before each track.

I thought it was a fantastic movie, and recommend it to anyone who thinks they may like it.

I agree with the poster who said the film is gory for the sake of being gory, and is by far Tarantino's goriest effort (surpassing Kill Bill).

What's strange to me is the difference that 18 years has made as far as Tarantino's on-screen violence goes. If you recall, Pulp Fiction was a violent film, but almost all of the actual violent acts took place off screen. Django Unchained is a departure from that by a large degree.

I prefer the Pulp Fiction approach, but still thoroughly enjoyed Django.

By the way, Jamie Foxx was perfectly cast as the title character, in my opinion.

Awesome movie!

Did anyone else have a bunch of parents take their children to see the movie? I saw it at 11pm at the Edwards theater on I-10, and there were a lot of kids under 13.

There were a bunch of people in my theater that didn't know what they were getting into. Leaving the theater I heard one lady said "I'm never going to see a Samuel L Jackson movie ever again either!", she was an older lady, also appeared to have her daughter and granddaughters with her

Awesome movie... Brutal, hilarious, beautifully shot, some great homages to the genre... Tarantino does it again.

And I saw it at 8 last night, and there were a lot of young kids there.

Great QT movie. I don't understand how someone can knowingly see a QT movie and think the violence is excessive though. It's like complaining about too many special effects in a James Cameron movie.

Excellent movie all the way around. Foxx and Waltz nailed their roles, but I think Leo and SLJ stole the show. DiCaprio was great as a villain

Freaking hilarious. This reminded me a little of some Blazing Saddles styled humor.

You mean often hilarious. Often.

Damn near lost my mind when they played that Rick Ross song when they were riding into Candie's plantation. Perfect.

Totally agree with you. Also loved Don Johnson in this.

Loved DiCaprio. However I did not see him as the villian. My only beef with the movie was it lacked an antagonist.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought of Blazing Saddles!

Wow, rivers of blood in this one. Tarantino just trying to outdo himself.

Good movie, but not as good as Inglorious Basterds.

I laugh when people say they don't like a Tarantino movie because it was gory. It's Tarantino guys. He's been doing it for years. Just like his cameos. It's what he does. If you don't like that stuff stay away from Tarantino movies. I love his work. Reservoir dogs is a personal favorite. But with that said, I like what I hear. I'm seeing it tonight and can't wait!

My bad Whoop04. Just saw your post and I pretty much said the same thing. Like what you did with the James Cameron comparison.

Can someone please tell me how it ends? I actually got one of those "911" calls at work that I needed to run to. I guess that's what I get for trying to play hooky.

Anyway, I bailed when Jdango finds his wife locked up in that shed-she's lying on a bed . . .

Thanks in advance!!!!

Disagree that it's more violent than other Tarantino movies, especially Kill Bill.

Good movie. Had some really great, iconic type moments. Leonardo and Jackson were fantastic.

btw, me and the rib were discussing this afterwards, was there any connection between the three trials the German hero Siegfried faced and Django's journey?
Whoop04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There was a strong connection, and that was one if the primary themes of the movie.

Uh, then what was it? The legend mentioned the mountain, the dragon, and the wall of fire. Where was that in Django's journey?
