Good movie but did not come close to Pulp Fiction or IB IMO.

Jackson stole the show.

IMO:

The mountain would symbolize the journey to "Candieland" and the previous bounty hunting which lead up to that point.

The dragon would seem to be Monsieur Candie himself.

The wall of flame separated the hero from Broomhilde such as the plantation, and moreover, the slave enablers in the plantation, separated Django from his beloved.

Just saw it today and really enjoyed it, though it felt a little overlong. I liked the music a lot as well as the story and typical Tarantino dialogue and gore, but something didn't quite click (again, maybe how long it felt) to put it in the Pulp Fiction or Inglorious Basterds category.

In any case, I'd give it an 8/10

I saw it today and loved it. Yes Quentin's cameo was distracting a bit but it was really cool and funny what happened to him.

I kept wondering if Jamie Foxx and SLJ had ever been in a movie together....seemed like they had...

.....then I remember that I just watched The Great White Hype just a week ago in a bit of nostalgia - to me it's a highly underrated flick which I watched all the time when it came out.

I loved this movie. Probably the best Tarantino film since Pulp and I thoroughly enjoyed Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds. Samuel L Jackson stole the show IMO, Waltz was excellent as usual and Foxx and DiCaprio both did a great job as well.

I would go see this in theatres again which would be pretty rare for me

Really enjoyed it. Thought it was interesting that the real villain in a movie about slavery was a slave. SLJ was a mean sob.

The scene where django tells the cook to "say goodbye to miss Laura" killed me.

It was good..definitely a Tarantino movie..wont put it up there with Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction tho..

Tarantino's part didnt bother me..it's not like he was a central character, but as someone mentioned, it was pretty cool to see what happened to his character..

The Jonah Hill cameo and seeing Tom Wopat for the first time in at least 25 years was pretty cool...

I've never been in love with Tarantino like so many people are. Reservoir Dogs was great and Pulp Fiction was a masterpiece, but I thought he never really lived up to those two movies. Jackie Brown was awful and while I thought Kill Bill 1 was decent, the second one sucked. Inglorious *******s was also a letdown after the great opening scene. Saying all that, I thought this movie was great. Not quite on the same level as Pulp Fiction, but will be among my top 10 movies for 2012.

I will have to be the dissenting voice on this thread. Tarrantino needs help in a BIG way. I get that he gets to throw out words that we normal people do not get to say in this day and age but that does not make a movie great. It makes it cheap.

There was a a scene that rather grapically showed a slave being eaten by dogs. That is this society is so over the top it is not even debatable. Of course that kind of garbage has probably always been part of cinema but not mainstream. He has gone too far this time and to hide behinf the guise of art is cowardly. He needs a good ass kicking.

Now cue up the obligatory "pull the road out of your butt" responses.

What is so objectionable about that scene's inclusion? The act itself was deplorable, but that's all part of the reality of this story he is creating.

It was in bad taste. For me to have to explain it means my explanation will fall on deaf ears. And I do not mean to sound like an ass about that. I am not. But either you find that way over the top or you do not. From the sound of your response it sounds as if you do not. Which is fine. No one made me God and arbitrator of all things.

This is just my opinion but I thought the speech Samuel L. Jackson gave in Jackie Brown was better than the one in Pulp Fiction. Just my opinion.

Loved the movie. The dog scene was hard to watch but I don't think it was completely unnecessary. DiCaprio actually made that character kinda likeable so the dog scene helped to show how heartless he really was in contrast to Waltz & Foxx.

I could have done without the dog scene, but it was there to show us how it impacted Dr. Schultz. QT even did a flashback just in case you needed to understand why Dr. Schultz wanted to cap Calvin.

It was over the top and served a purpose. Slavery was (and still is) bad.

And Spielberg showing all the emaciated prisoners was over the top and uncomfortable in Schindlers List. He too must deserve an ass kicking...

The history lesson was extremely silly, ignorant, and over the top but I don't go to Hollywood for my education. I enjoyed it for what it was.

Now the fact that many people take that as some actual historical lesson is disturbing but not surprising considering the level of intelligence in the American population but that "is what it is" as they say.

Anyone else notice the masked woman at the Doghouse? Who was looking at the slave pictures through a viewer when Django showed up there, and was among the group earlier? She seemed like she was designed to stick out/be distinctive, but didn't have any role as far as I could tell. What was up with her?

My brother told me that she was Uma Therman's stunt double in Kill Bill, that's all he knew. I don't think there was any special significance to her character outside that.

That was Zoe Bell (IMDB profile - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1057928/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1. Pretty impressive list of stunt work and coordination. She's been in a lot of QT's films, mostly as a double. She played herself (at least her character was "Zoe") in Deathproof where she was one of the 3 women that fight off Kurt Russell (spoilers?). Don't think there was any real purpose of that character in Django being a woman, except for QT to get her in the movie.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Went with several females that thought the dog scene was a little rough. It felt long to me- and I looked down and it was nearly a 3 hour movie. Loved the score, gave it a humorous feel to it.

I found the language very offensive and think everyone involved in the production of this film should reevaluate what they are doing with their lives, because they are clearly living a life of sin.
