I'm pretty sure I'd rather watch a Tarantino movie than you using the restroom.

What kind of idiot would be shocked by the usage of the N-word in a slave movie? What were you expecting?

Anyone else notice the masked woman at the Doghouse? Who was looking at the slave pictures through a viewer when Django showed up there, and was among the group earlier? She seemed like she was designed to stick out/be distinctive, but didn't have any role as far as I could tell. What was up with her?

yeah this was the one time in QT movie, I was left wondering "What was the idea behind that?"

Finally saw this movie last night on Amazon Prime. Really really liked it. Might even buy it on BluRay.

Finally watched it yesterday. I thought it was slightly below Basterds, but I still enjoyed the hell out of it.

Did anyone else recognize Lewis Skolnik as one of the trackers?

I thought this movie was just OK. The German and Samuel L. made the movie. I found Jamie Foxx to be rather unremarkable.

Just watched it. Agree with 3rdCoast.

It was good, and for the first hour or so had some great lines/moments.

But it didn't get really good until the dinner scene. The time before that was largely wasted.

Third time warching the movie and I have this figured out.

Woman is the same woman from the window in daughtery tx when they first ride in to shoot the sherriff. She is also present at the dog biting scene wearing a red bandana and hat.

Not sure why she is made to stand out other than some intrigue..

She's a really famous Hollywood stunt woman and buddies with Tarantino. She's been in a lot of his movies including an acting role in Death Proof (she's the chick that rides on top of the car).

I'm guessing Tarantino just wanted to put her in the film but didn't have much for her besides that.

There is a deleted scene with her apparently that shows her character is missing her lower jaw which is why she is wearing the bandana. Read an interview with Tarantino it was a scene with all those slaver trackersthat gave a bit more of their backstories, but it had to be cut due to time constraints.

I heard it won't be on the deleted scenes because although it was an intended scene, they never had time to film it.

Saw it this weekend for the first time. It was good not great (IMO), but I can see where a lot of the praise is coming from. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more in a packed theater, which is generally the case.

I thought this movie was excellent. If you are surprised at the over the top violence, you haven't seen QT's Kill Bill or Dusk Til Dawn. If you were surprised by the language, you might not have ever seen a QT movie period. I also don't get the hate for his own cameo. He does it in lots of his movies, and this was a relatively smaller role than in others.
Waltz, Foxx, Leo, and SLJ were all great in this one.

Just saw this on Netflix. Overall I really enjoyed it.

Stylistically and visually, this was QT's best that I have seen. Really stunning scenery. It had many spaghetti western features and modern touches.

I found the accents to be a bit contrived. Yes, I know 1880s South maybe had stronger accents. But maybe I just couldn't buy in to Leonardo as a Southerner.

The guy playing the German was fantastic. Really made the movie. Jamie Foxx was understated, but effective. I may have been the only one that was underwhelmed by SLJ. Maybe I hated his character too much, or maybe I have seen too many SLJ movies.

The language. I think QT was just trying to get away with something here. It was pretty raw. The violence at the end was comically graphic. But it felt natural being in a QT movie.

The love story backdrop was obviously required for the plot. But I found it a bit shallow. It reminded me of (crazy reference here) Planes Trains and Automobiles because they spend the whole movie trying to rejoin a relationship the viewer barely knows. It doesn't really distract. It just is what it is.

The soundtrack is exceptional. Ennio Morricone and Rick Ross.

Agree this was 30 minutes too long.

All that said. All the flaws. It is highly entertaining. It is full of surprises and it is one of a kind with a gentle nod to the westerns of the past.

I just rewatched this a couple weeks ago. I enjoy it but feel like it's not one of QTs best. Part of it is that Jamie Foxx gets on my nerves some. Also I think it suffers some from having to follow Inglorious Basterds, which I think is QTs modern masterpiece. I love that movie.

Resurrecting this since I just saw the movie for the first time last night since it popped up on Netflix.

Not sure that it could be made today, just 7 years later.

I had no preconceived notions about it going in, but the opening scene with slaves being marched in chains accompanied by cheerful music was my first clue. Very stylized with great pacing and cartoonish violence, but the story and acting kept me hooked. All of the acting was great, but I thought Jamie Foxx was incredible. Not sure any other actor could have matched his performance, and that's not something I ever thought I'd say.

Had this conversation the other day, but does everyone here consider Jamie Foxx an A-list actor (I do)? Because if so, he has the be the most underrated one out there. He has great range in that he's just as good a dramatic actor as he is a comedic actor. Really one of the most talented people working in Hollywood.

Also read that Will Smith turned this down because it was too controversial, but I don't think he could've done as a good of a job as Jamie.

Foxx was pretty damn good but Leo was absolutely epic in this movie.

His ability to be charismatic while portraying such an evil character was amazing.

I love the performance we got from Foxx. But It would have been fascinating to see what QT could do with Will Smith.

Someone the other day told me that the grave of Paula Schulz where Bea Kiddo was buried alive in in KB2 was supposed to be the wife of Dr. King Schulz. I never made the connection.

Jamie Foxx had one of the biggest years in 2004. Up for 2 Oscars in the same year. Best actor Ray and best supporting actor for Collateral.
If you haven't revisited Collateral recently, it still holds up, back and forth Foxx vs Cruise. And Crusie as Hitman Vincent, he's so bad ass.
