Also, "Live free or die hard" is a pretty similar motto to "ride or die"

i thought the fourth die hard was the weakest of them i've seen. i skipped the latest one after hearing it was just not good. the first is my favorite. then maybe the 3rd one. the second is probably third place.

OK, just got out of this with the rib, and we picked it to pieces on the drive home.

SPOILER ALERT

The entire scheme depends on Tressler putting up the money for the shows in Las Vegas and New Orleans. How did he get roped into being their "benefactor", and what was plan B if he had just said "thanks for the pitch, but I'll pass"? The revenge angle completely falls apart if Tressler decides not to fund them. Guess that was a deleted scene. And the Interpol agent (what was her name again?) was awfully forgiving at the end. Then, after all that, The Eye turns out to be a merry-go-round? WTF? I was expecting Copperfield, Criss Angel, Penn and Teller to pop out from behind the carousel with drinks saying "Hey, guys! Welcome to the club!"

Just seemed to be a very poorly crafted and clumsy "surprise" ending to us. By comparison, the surprise in the Sixth Sense was woven very tightly into the entire script. Looking back, you could see all the little clues that made the ending make sense. In this, there's none of that. It's just a "wow, didn't see that coming" cheap reveal.

Liked the movie a lot. Glad they brought closure at the end.

Thought they were going to leave the viewers hanging when "---not saying name---" was in jail at the ending screaming "why? Why".

Creative ending that I didn't see coming.

Just saw this one. I liked it. Lots of twists. There was a little too much camera spinning during some of the 1st magic show scenes, but other than that the film was visually well done. Interesting reveal that I did not see coming (though like others, the motivation was guessed pretty early on). Kinda wish they had gone into more about what happens next, but I guess they are saving some things for the sequel (slated for 2015, I think).

I liked this movie for what it was, instead of bashing it for what it's not (Oceans 11). Which is what many of the "critics" seemed to be doing on RT.

Was actually looking forward to seeing this, and was let down big time. Besides the crappy ending, I HATE when movies create a love interest out of thin air. The FBI and Interpol agents had NO chemistry whatsoever throughout the movie, yet of course they end up together. Just lazy, lazy formulaic writing if you ask me.

Eh, it was amusing and pretty laid back flick. Wife and I enjoyed our $1.50 worth from the Redbox Blu-Ray rental.

Just watched it last night. Entertaining and fun, but man, that's definitely a story that doesn't hold up to much scrutiny. I enjoyed it, so I want to be clear on that, but there were several things about it that made me feel like I was watching a bad movie that had a big budget and quality production. But again, that doesn't mean I thought it was bad overall. For what it was, it was fun and worth my time. But I can understand the complaints and the criticisms. They're pretty much all valid.

And I enjoy magic and love losing myself in it and whatnot, but they took some of the illusions too far, IMO. As in, I don't care how good your set-up is, there's no way you could do what you just did in front of a live audience.

I saw it on a flight on Sunday. I missed the previews for it so I'd never heard of it. I enjoy a good magic show and thought it was a fun movie. I agree the ending was a little weak, namely the bizarre love angle and the magical carousel.

And how did Ruffalo get into the Eye if no one even knew he was a magician?

Supposedly he started it? Or maybe he started his local chapter? Haha I don't know...

This was on tv the other day, so here's my way-too-late review.

1. The payoff was super lame because they did nothing to earn it. A great twist makes you ask "how come I didn't see that coming?!" A bad twist makes you ask "umm really?" This is the latter. You think back through the movie and instead of seeing things that seemed innocuous in a different light, you think "why did they need a giant fight and car chase + explosion? Couldn't he have found the piece of paper on the counter? Why the big chase through New Orleans? Nothing changes if detective ruffalo stays in Vegas the whole movie.

2. The romantic pair has no chemistry at all. Then again, Ruffalo is the chemical equivalent of a Formica countertop, so what are you going to do. Makes you wonder how they pulled it off in Avengers... then you remember that Scarjo is amazing.

3. The hypnotism and mentalism was over the top. Kind of hard to take seriously.

4. The big reveal of the safe was both predictable and dumb. I mean, a giant mirror, really? If you have time for that, wouldn't you just... go ahead and take the safe?

5. The first big magic trick I thought was pretty good. Ok, it relied on hypnotism, but showing the guts of the trick with the sleight of hand and visual effects was a good setup for the kind of stuff you'll have to deal with chasing magicians.

6. Overall, the caper was 50x too complicated for no apparent reason while the setup for the payoff and relationship were incredibly lazy.

7. Most of the actors did a good job, I think the issues were entirely on the script and directorial choices.
