Oh dude…I live in the weeds and relish in the details. And generally speaking yeah you're 100% correct this movies budget doesn't come close to Solo due to the reshoots and screw ups.

But my take comes from simply having so many media outlets over and over put up "reported budgets" for Disney films like Deadpool 3, The Rise of Skywalker, Snow White, Ant-Man 3 etc etc etc and then it comes out time later all these "reported budgets" were all a bunch of bull….

It's a trend that's really stuck in my crawl over time…

Empire Strikes Back
Rogue One
A New Hope

Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi - these two are pretty interchangeable for me at 4 and 5

This is where the opinion gets unpopular. Next up, Attack of the Clones. I genuinely "like" this movie once Anakin starts murdering Sand People and Kenobi fights Jango both on the water planet and in the asteroid field. Once Anakin/Padme show up at the droid factory, I genuinely "love" the film all the way thru the third act. And the music is just epic.

Solo

The Force Awakens

The Phantom Menace
Rise of Skywalker
The Last Jedi

/haven't seen Mando/Grogu

I have no idea if that is good or bad but I really love the second half/third act. Sue me.

Since we're on AOTC...

This moment by John Williams gave me chills in the theater.

To this point in the trilogy, Lucas has not openly stated that Palpatine is the Emperor, or that the Clones will "become" the stormtroopers.

This was him announcing that.

I bought the CD score before seeing the movie. I was listening to it and kind of zoning out while working, and then when the Imperial march kicked in ... chills.

I like Attack of the Clones generally speaking. I think it is the weakest of the prequels, bookended by two very well done movies. But the second half is pretty damn good Star Wars. We finally got to see why Yoda was considered a great warrior. Obi-Wan vs Jango was awesome. And once I got the movie on BluRay, I was between contracts with work, and managed to watch the heck out of that movie during my downtime.

I concede the point that Williams' score for that movie in particular was great. Probably even the best of his prequel scores. Across The Stars is so good.

Thankfully I have all that in my Apple Music so I don't have to watch the movie.

The dialogue in that movie between Anakin and Padme is so terrible, it's as if James Cameron wrote it.

This is not great endorsement. In 10 years the next star athlete fan of Star Wars will say Rise of Skywalker is his/her favorite.

Happy 49th birthday to the best thing ever. Almost as old as me!

1983 Carrie Fisher on Letterman, phew, not sure my 9-year-old self could have handled seeing this live, fortunately I wasn't allowed to stay up that late.

The second time I watched AOTC I found myself thinking perhaps the worst indictment I can give to a movie:

This movie is boring.

I never finished that second viewing. It's a bad movie in a lot of ways and finds itself at the bottom of the list.

I've always wondered what the prequels would have been like if you had Anakin be around 15, Padme 18 and Obi-Wan 20-25 in The Phantom Menace and had Padme smitten by handsome Jedi Obi-wan just as Anakin is smitten by her. Obi-Wan wouldn't be down for romance with Padme, being a good Padawan and all, but Little Orphan Ani would definitely see the way she was looking at him.

When they all reunite in Attack of the Clones, which could have then been set maybe 5 years later rather than 10, you could really ramp up Anakin's emotional instability and possessiveness when he and Obi-Wan are guarding Padme on Coruscant and again when she wants to go with him to save Obi-Wan on Geonosis.

AOTC really suffered from the lack of Liam Neeson more than anything. Palpatine vanishes from the movie for a good hour and only appears as Sidious once, and Christopher Lee doesn't show up until the last 30 minutes to have that really good dialogue scene with Obi-Wan.

I rewatched The Phantom Menace recently and Attack of the Clones just last night. Yeah, there's multiple ways that the plot could be better in both. Yes, you could trim a lot of the just plain dumb kiddie stuff like Jar Jar. And yes, the dialogue is very stilted and natural.

But for the most part, those are all veteran actors giving some very wooden and lackluster dialogue readings (although McGregor's performance is good and the most natural). So, and I could very well be totally wrong with the filmaking process, but I think the biggest fault in Episodes 1-3 is George Lucas' direction.

Good actors can mask mediocre dialogue, and good direction can improve subpar performers. But (sorry guys) Episodes 1-3 are predominantly good actors repeating subpar dialogue in a way that's almost like Lucas told them all, "Ok, just read this very simplistic and on the nose dialogue exactly like its written with as little real emotion as possible!". So, I'm putting the "blame" on him.

I just see a lot of comments on here about bad acting or the lame stuff like jar jar or weak plot points. I'm simply reminding everyone to not let the direction by Lucas specifically off the hook, lol.

My list - good for 24 hours or so. I'm sure I've rearranged them 100 times over the years. After watching a good bit of Revenge of the Sith this weekend, I think I would put it as high as 4th if just 2 things were different:

1. The Anakin/Mace/Palpy scene made more sense.
2. Anakin vs. Obi-Wan had about 10 times more talking and 100% less rope swinging.

1. Star Wars
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Return of the Jedi
4. The Force Awakens
5. Rogue One
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. The Phantom Menace
8. Mandalorian and Grogu
9. The Rise of Skywalker
10. Solo
11. Attack of the Clones
12. The Last Jedi

I have been saying this forever.

Lucas was literally standing there the whole time. You can say Hayden sucks at acting but George approved every shoot. You can say the dialogue was ham fisted and yep, also signed off on by George. He didn't lose a bet and have to include Jar Jar.

OK, not going to write too much here, but Mandolarian and Grogu was awful. 45 minutes into it, I was saying the opposite (like this is pretty good so far, I don't know why the bad reviews). However, once they captured Commander Coin at roughly the 45 minute mark the movie was over. There was nothing left that they had developed that first part. How did this script get approved?

Saw the movie this afternoon.

No, it doesn't have anything super new or ground breaking or a Hitchcock/Shamalayan twist anywhere.

Yeah, it could have been a few episodes weaved together.

We enjoyed it. It won't be in our top five or anything but I'll rewatch it before I rewatch any of the sequel trilogy.

Having Filoni and the other former directors and the Kim's Convenience guy in as X-Wing pilots was fun.

Was that character that gave Grogu the Miracle Max mostly-dead remedy pill the same species as Sebulba?

OK. I'll add more because the movie sat worse when I wrote the above than at the actual conclusion of the movie.

45 minutes into the movie - good!
Another hour in - well not the best middle of a movie, but we will see how it comes together.
At the conclusion of the movie - there was no story, that was it?
And then today - I can't believe that is what they did with that movie.

The beginning scene was pretty cool. And there was a plot thru the capture of Commander Coin. After that Mando just fought various monsters every 10 minutes. There just wasn't much of a point to anything after the 45 minute mark. I can't believe that the script wasn't sent back to be re-written?

Another aside, why was Sigourney Weaver in this film? No problem with it through 45 minutes. Then, they did nothing with her character and her lines at the end flying were just kind of laughable. I don't think she was even on set with anyone.

This is true. My favorite part of the movie was Blade Runner universe Mando. Actually was pretty cool. That's where that song comes in. World building part was interesting. But movie could have been a lot more.
