This is true. My favorite part of the movie was Blade Runner universe Mando. Actually was pretty cool. That's where that song comes in. World building part was interesting. But movie could have been a lot more.

My favorite part was when the power went out in the theater.

So everyone hates the Mando movie, but it's going to turn a profit.

Guess that's better than a movie everyone hates losing 300 million dollars.

If Disney ever wants Star Wars to be successful again they need to stop listening to the fanboys and just try to make good new stories.

I don't think that's true that everyone hates the Mando movie. I think by and large audiences who see it enjoy the movie.

Saw it again yesterday with dad (in plain clothes this time). He loved it and was laughing at a lot. Spent great quality time together and bonded over Star Wars.

Made its production cost back in the first weekend. The rest of the run probably covers the marketing costs and then it goes to TV and streaming where it will make money for a long time. Not a home run by any stretch, but compared to the last few years of everything Disney has put out? The accountants are a lot happier with this one.

Taking my superfan and her slightly less excited sister on Friday night, then damaging their psyches by taking them to their first R-rated movie - Backrooms - on Saturday.

Oh by "everyone" I just meant the internet.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure I (and the family) will enjoy it

I know this is a joke, but back in 1999 I saw the Joan of Arc movie with Mills Jovovich and near the end of the movie, there is the great scene with Dustin Hoffman where he really peels away at Joan's psyche and strips her of her faith and forces her to confront reality, it is like the only thing decent thing this movie.

Right after this scene, they put Joan on the stake to burn her. As she is burning at the stake, the shot of her dissolves into burning bubbles and fades into complete white. We just sit there, thinking something profound is going on. And just wait staring at this bright white light.

A minute later a theater worker comes in and says the film burned up and it will be a few minutes for them to match in the replacement. To this day watching Joan Arc burn at the stake while the film burned following this Dustin Hoffman scene about faith, made the movie infinitely better.

To make it Star Wars related, that Joan of Arc movie was the first time, I realized an A+ actor can really elevate the material and make it memorable.

So my question is this, without Alec Guinness, does Star Wars become as popular? He really does elevate every scene he is in and adds a ton of gravitas to the movie.

What if it was someone else like Peter Cushing or Toshiro Mifune as rumored? Still as big of a hit?

I went with 2 friends to see Jurassic Park: The Lost World one night in whatever year that was. 1997? 1998?
Anyway, right after they capture the T- Rex and get away from the island, they stopped the movie and turned the lights on and said, "Look, there's a flash flood outside, we're shutting down, there's only a couple of minutes left in the movie, we're sorry, but this is for everyone's safety."

Me, my brother, and my friend never knew about the T-Rex getting out and terrorizing San Diego for at least 3 years after that until one of us saw it on TV and called the other 2

Nah dude….

First let's just pretend the reported budget of 165 million is accurate, even though I posted earlier a few pages ago that this likely doesn't include actor salaries based on how California reporting is required and how this was put out.

Now let's assume marketing, which is likely around 150 million…but we'll go SUPER conservative and say only 100 million…

That's 265 million dollars at a bare minimum this took to make (likely 300+ but I'm being nice to the numbers)….

Now…theaters have to make money….if you think the 160-ish global box office went all to Lucas film this weekend you're way off….

Domestically it's estimated theaters keep 48% and production company gets 52%. Internationally it's more opposite with international theaters getting a tad more and production company getting a tad less (ignoring China which keeps about 80%)….

So it's usually estimated 50/50….

That means for this sucker to break even BARE minimum ManGrok has to gross 530 million dollars with many others estimating it needs 600 million….

And after this weekend…there's no way it hits 530, let alone 600

Regarding tv and streaming…it's going on Disney + where it'll likely get a little spike for a week or two when it debuts on Disney + and then stay in the back where most of other Disney Star Wars stuff lies….

This sucks because if they hadn't screwed the pooch so bad after season 2 and kept Luke around and maybe this moving involving Grogu's training and Mando and them coming together again…and THAT being the next Star Wars film to hit theaters, it would've grossed a billion minimum internationally and maybe a but ton of money….

Now, Disney will be lucky if this thing passes 400 million globally….

THR reported $500-600MM as the break-even, according to "those close to Disney's decision-making."

Yup saw that article. Lines up with my math.

Article was hilarious though because it states it's ok that if it loses money because lucasfilm with make up that difference in toys/merchandise but then references 2021/2022 sales….

Yeah the times now ain't the same back then Hollywood reporter….

If it had been part of season 4 of Mando it would be fine. As a movie it was disappointing, I kept waiting for the thing that made this special and made it need to be a movie. It never came.
I found Grogu to be annoying, can't explain it.

All that said, my 8 year old and 11 year old thought the movie was great.

My favorite part was when the power went out in the theater.

Actually happened when I saw Force Awakens - power went out for about ten minutes just when Han and Kylo were talking on the bridge.

A positive from the movie - the score absolutely rocks when they show up on that planet (moon?) to look for Jabba's whiny kid.

Confession time: Now that I finally found a tiny screwdriver to put the batteries in the Mando & Grogu popcorn bucket and realized it plays the music and has a projection of the movie title it can put anywhere you point Mando's head, I'm not longer sure I want my daughter to be the sole owner of said bucket.

Best part of the movie- my kids LOVING Star Wars in th theater.

Otherwise, I was pretty bored the entire time. Jabba's kids voice killed me. It was fine but I found myself ready for it to end.

2 bits of voice work trivia

Anthony Daniels played the voice of the droid that clears Mando to land on Nal Hutta, continuing his unreal streak of being in every Star Wars movie ever.

The guy who played the voice of the alien who lives in the swamp is the guy who played Thufir in Dune

Whelp…that 103 million estimate was a tad inflated….

Didn't break 100 million domestically with the 4-day holiday weekend….grossed a total of 98 million instead…

But the media got their "broke 100 million" headlines based on those estimates…let's see how many update their articles…

Whole family went tonight. I think my wife had the best response. She said afterwards that she had no idea what the movie was trying to be. She clarified further that there was too much violence/death for it to be a little kid movie and at the same time it was packed with little kid stuff start to finish. Disclaimer, she's never seen prior any of the D+ SW series.

IMO, with the big exception to Andor, she basically described all the D+ SW series.

Didn't like it. Didn't hate it. The best I can say is that the gladiator combat scene in the arena made to look like the game played on Falcon back in 77, even with the same monsters, was pretty darn cool.

So I'm guessing your wife never saw any of the previous Star Wars movies? Severed arms, murdered kids, still-burning skeletal remains all come to mind.
