I have said this sooo many times. Without the zany over the top villains, Batman is just a moody depressed dude in some serious need of grief counseling and the whole concept is boring and sad.

Suicide Squad is all of the fun of the villains without the depression of Batface.

The costuming IMO sucks. I think somewhere on this thread or the actual Suicide Squad thread I did a side by side comparison of comic to screen character. Anywhere they could have used color, they went drab. Once again, funsucking. Seriously, I can go further into this, but I think it would be a repeat of earlier posts. Who the hell put Enchantress in the weeds?

The first trailer was terrible. If one of your key lines in the movie that you first debut is "I put them in a hole then threw away the hole"..yeah I'm worried about the writing there. IIRC, they released trailer two with the Queen song that looks a little more campy and fun (albeit not terribly original), but the first trailer was waaaaay too serious and rumor had it they reshot after hearing that it was too serious.

Then we get to the Joker...why do I see the Joker so much? He's not really a huge part of Suicide Squad (not any part to be honest)...so he basically has to be the Big Bad in the movie..which IMO is kinda boring and not fair to Harley Quinn.


Which brings me to Harley Quinn. WTF is she wearing. Everything about her costume sucks. Suicide Squad is her break from the Joker, her realization of independence from an abusive maniacal relationship. If the only real part she plays is sex doll and obsesses over the Joker and Deadshot, they are doing discredit to the depth of her character. AND Where is her New Jersey accent?!



Now, all of these things *could* be fixed in the actual movie. I'm keeping an open mind and will be seeing it asap.

The movies are good, but we're what, 10 movies in? Even with a great franchise, things can get tiresome. It's not the directors or actors fault, it's just a lot of that universe and of those characters.

I absolutely acknowledge I'm probably in the extreme minority, though.

Try 13 MOVIES in. And I'm right there with you. I enjoy the Marvel movies for the most part when I'm physically sitting in the theater, but that's about it. I almost never think about them after.

How often do you think about DC movies? Without thinking how much worse they are than Marvel's?

Another beautifully shot movie with grand ambitions and terrible pacing.

I know with other studios doing their own expanded universes, it doesn't feel as special, but I can't get over what Marvel has been building the last 8 years. I still get chills thinking about the first post credit scene in Iron Man with Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury. Now with the next few years planned out, it's incredible to see how far they have come.

I hope that DC can get to that level! Superhero movies are so much fun to me and I would love to see characters like Wonder Woman or Aquaman done right on the big screen. It's awesome seeing kids dressed in Black Panther suits and name dropping Ant-Man. I hope we can see more Flashes and Green Lanterns around.

Yeah....it's an overwrought, confused and horribly paced movie that I've dozed off during every attempt to watch.

Went and saw The Killing Joke tonight. It was decent. Lots of nostalgia thanks to bringing back Conroy and Hamill. They created a prologue to the story which will create some controversy and hardcore fans will probably hate it. Once the got into the actual portion of the story from the novel, its fantastic. Almost straight from the pages.

The prologue includes some substance to give Batgirl some more gravity with fans for later in the story. I'm not sure they accomplished what they wanted to and there will be backlash for it. I'm on the fence with where they took it. I don't think it hurts anything, but it doesn't add anything either. Still, it is a pretty dang good adaptation of the graphic novel.


I can't reiterate how awesome it was to hear Hamill and Conroy on screen again.

Thanks for the review, really looking forward to this one. Such a powerful, visceral story.

Seeing it tomorrow

There was a big crowd on the Cinemark XD screen in CS last night for it.

I liked it, but it's R rating is totally undeserved. There's more sex/violence/language on a standard FX show.

Did anyone else realize Gal Gadot is 5'10"? Holy ****, chick is huge. I never noticed it until I saw the Keeping Up With The Joneses trailer and saw her standing next to normal humans.

Probably a major reason why she landed the role of WW. Can't just put any hot chick in that role.

Here she is with Cavill (6'1") and Affleck (6'4").

i wanted someone a little more ummmm... defined at first but she is starting to grow on me.
