Beat me to it! Ha, so two not-horrible reviews so far.

So, can WB/DC just go ahead and sell all the rights to their characters to Marvel now?

Not that they're glowing, but here's some other non-bad reviews:

It's just the kick in the pants Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment need to correct course ahead of next year's Justice League.

The rare comic book movie that truly feels like it came from one person's wackadoodle vision.

Logic waved bye-bye to Harley a long time ago. Kind of like this movie. But in both cases, it's a damn captivating spectacle to behold.

For DC, which blew it with Batman v Superman last spring, Suicide Squad is a small step forward. But it could have been a giant leap.

Suicide Squad is the rare superhero movie in which I actually found myself wondering about the characters' inner lives.

Like Avengers Assemble forced through a Deadpool mangle, Suicide Squad gives new life to DC's big-screen universe. So bad-to-the-bone it's good.

This is the one that gives me some hope. That description sounds pretty awesome to me. We'll see.

Had either been above 60, I might have made plans to see it this weekend, but this sounds bad. Curious to hear what Texags says once it hits theaters.

Serious question: does this effect the numbers this weekend?

Early tracking had it at $110 million for the weekend. That's some serious cash. Now that reviews are coming in, how far (if any) does that number fall?

Good question. I think opening weekend isn't affected much, and that it still breaks $100M (though not by much), but bad reviews will definitely result in a steep dive the second weekend.

Maybe Sausage Party will still save the summer.

Call me crazy, but I am still looking forward to this. Mike Ryan (whose tweets are on the previous page; review contains spoilers) mentioned that the characters are at least good! Even if the movie as a whole isn't good, I still would like to see characters that could potentially show up in future DC movies.

Do the reviews tell us if we find out where they threw the hole?

This is probably the best review I've read yet, from (surprise) one of my favorite critics, Devin Faraci. His take? Basically, that the movie itself is garbage, but there are four performances that kind of sort of save it. Comes across as a very level-headed take...

Yes, but that's not really much of a spoiler. Her character was announced when the rest of the characters were, and she's NOT a member of the Squad, so.................yeah. Her being the villain, while kept out of the trailers, isn't really a surprise.

Sorry, meant that it was the "best" as in the review itself was the most well presented and practical.

Sounds like a rental. May still make a boatload of money though. Word of mouth may determine week 2 box office more than RT score, but low score won't help much.

Not sure what the 8/12 competition is - maybe not much.

Pete's Dragon - which I'm predicting will absolutely CRUSH Suicide Squad. And then basically the summer comes to a merciful end.

As far as box office, I still think it has a pretty good opening. Maybe $100-$110M opening weekend, probably settles in around $220-$250M domestic, depending on word of mouth. International is hard to guage, seeing as none of these characters are very well known outside of Joker. Have to rely on Will Smith's star power.

Guess we'll have to wait and see if WW will be the one to turn it around for DC, at least critically. Financially, I'm sure WB isn't sweating it too much for this one's international numbers.

I only remember one spoiler about an early character death, and he tags it as a spoiler.

yeah, but if you embed that in the middle of a paragraph, there is no way I'm gonna be able to tap the brakes before seeing it.

He also goes pretty in depth about plot, villain, character roles, etc etc.

I wouldn't suggest people read that before going to the movie.

I had a bad feeling about the movie. It looked like it was trying to be a cross between Guardians of the Galaxy and any of the Bourne movies.

Suicide Squad always should have been an R rated movie. It's absolutely insane that it wasn't created with that in mind.

I'm still going to go see it in the theaters, but the WB really needs to start hiring good screenwriters for these movies versus just throwing a bunch of **** on a wall and hoping it works out.

I was really hoping the serious aspect would take off, but we're likely going to start getting Marvel clones from here on out since the WB is going to blame it on everything but their own storytelling. You can do a serious comic book movie, it just needs to have a coherent narrative. The WB apparently doesn't understand that.

Because you need the Joker in order to show Harley's origins. Without the Joker, there is no Harley Quinn.

For the larger pop culture entertainment world, DC is like that cousin you're ashamed to be associated with, always making excuses for them or trying to distance.
