Yeah, I don't quite get it. After Bale passed, I guess it wa just a matter of getting the best actor. There's only a handful of A-list actors who can pull this roll off, and I think they just had to sacrifice the resemblance for the acting.
A comparison photo posted on Twitter. It's almost like an alternate-universe Jobs. Not even going for the same hair...
The hair's the biggest thing to me. If you don't want to use any prosthetics to make their faces similar, then fine... really not a huge deal. But they could at least go with a wig. I'm totally with you on the best actor over appearance approach... but I'm just really confused why they aren't trying to make them resemble each other at least somewhat.

Similar casting choice to Social Network, IMO. Jesse Eisenberg did not look, sound, or have mannerisms like Zuckerberg, but pulled off being a socially illiterate nerd. Perhaps in this case they just looked for someone who could pull off charisma while being a dick.
That said, Eisenberg pulled me out of Social Network a few times because he didn't remind me of Zuckerberg. The same will likely happen here, too.

When I think of Steve Jobs, I think of this:
Is there a generation gap of what people think jobs looks like? Folks who never knew the younger Jobs might not be put off by the divergent looks, unlike folks more familiar with him or from his generation.
As far as acting chops go, I think they got a good actor for the script.
Edit: I realize Fassbender doesn't look like old jobs either, but at least it's not the hair

Actually, the Eisenberg thing is a good point, but it actually makes me like the Fassbender angle more. Eisenberg only vaguely resembles Zuckerberg, and I loved him in the role. For whatever reason, I didn't need that role to be spot-on. Granted, Jobs was definitely more of a public figure/presence, but still.

Admittedly, it's not much, but the tone is spot on, and Fassbender's not quite as distracting as I thought he'd be (though he still doesn't look or sound like Jobs in any way).
Cannot wait for this movie.

Rogan was awesome in 50/50. I will go far as to say he shoulda got consideration for at least an Academy nomination for that role for BSA.
That was awesome. I don't think I've ever heard Fassbender try an American accent. Not surprised that he can pull it off, but still relieved.

Movie magic is great and all, but I think the prosthetics can get distracting. It was one of my knocks against Carrell in Foxcatcher. I'm sure they looked at it and just decided that they couldn't make it look that great, so they just decided to make it work without him looking a lot like him.

I'll see absolutely anything Steven Soderbergh is involved with. The first movie MM was great. Soderbergh directed that one, but only shot this one. Still, I'll likely see MMXXL in theaters because of him. It's getting awesome reviews.
