Great finale. Whether this series was good hinged on how this episode went.

Great way to end it. Sucks he couldn't get Sadie but makes sense

I liked the ending, but I'm more selfish than he is. I think I would've reset, then stayed in Lisbon and courted Sadie.

I waited until about a week ago to start watching, and watched them all. Read the book 3 or so years ago.

The first and (especially) the last episode were great. The middle bogged a little bit, but I really thought the finale more than made up for it.

I knew the tv adaptation was going to have to separate from the book somehow, since so much of the book is Jake/George internalizing everything. I thought they might go the narrator route, but they went the way of a new character. I didn't dislike the idea of Bill, but I wasn't really a fan of the way that character played out (and the accent, woof).

The actress playing Sadie was fantastic... very true to the book, I thought, and she is beautiful. James Franco... he was ok. I can take him or leave him and he did fine. Overall, it wasn't a waste of time. Much better than most Stephen King screen adaptations, for me!

For those that read the book...spoiler if you haven't finished the tv series........

Does the book explain who dropped the bombs and caused the destruction of America?

Finally got around to watching this series. I did not read the book and I would have to say that this series was great.

My only question, who is the homeless guy? At first I thought it was an older Jake but that can't be right.

Did not read the book, just started the series and I'm 2 episodes in. So far I'm okay with it and because I purchased the whole season I'm going to stick it out anyway.

I do have a question that relates to the premise of time travel as it was explained to him by the diner owner, Al. I can't imaging that I need to spoiler alert this for anyone this late in the game - but if I'm playing with a spoiler for MYSELF then just reply to 'keep watching' and that my question will be answered later.

When Al wanted to prove time travel to him he had Jake go carve something in the tree. Jake then comes back to 2016 (let's say) and the JFK is still carved in the tree. Al tells Jake that the things he changed while in 1960 would still be changed - UNLESS HE RE-ENTERED THE CLOSET. (at least that's how I understood it) So the next time Jake re-entered the closet the initials in the tree disappeared.

Okay, later Jake asks Al why he didn't just kill Oswald. Al says he doesn't want to kill an innocent man if Oswald didn't assassinate Kennedy. I don't understand. It seems he could go kill Oswald, come back to present and see if the past changed. If it didn't then all he has to do is jump back in the closet and Oswald is reset from that time in 1960. He could then go back as many times as necessary and 'kill' the next suspect until he finds the one he's looking for - until he has the right one. By the tree example it seems each time he fails to change the future and goes back in time it re-animates the previous dead innocent.

I must have misunderstood how this works because it seems like the premise falls apart early in episode 1 to me.

Probably due to the fact that once he re-enters the closest he is transported back to the same date every time. If I recall correctly, that was 5 years before the JFK assassination. Al and Jake still age while waiting until that moment. Also, Oswald was out of the country for a lot a that period of time; in the Marines and later in Russia.

Also, it makes for better drama to have Jake save JFK at the very last moment.

If he killed Oswald right away, the book/show would be over in 5 min

Just watched Ep. 1....interesting.

It is one of the few SK books I have not read so I'm not gonna peruse this thread for spoilers.

Interesting concept but a little weak on the time travel/how that affects stuff angle.

There were several SK little nods in there....
Area 19 in the auditorium
the dad chopping through the bathroom door
tell JFK I'm his number 1 fan - lol
the car was a Plymouth Fury

The scene outside the School Book Depository looked pretty real...not sure if it was on site or on a set....although the park benches and whatnot and the fountain didn't seem quite right. I don't know. Maybe I just don't know what it looked like then vs. now. It was a little too clean it seemed like. Was it shot there?

ok i'm still watching despite some "minor" quibbles and inaccuracies.

I know this isn't a documentary and it is technically fiction but I expected them to follow everything more to the letter.

Case in point this episode gives the date as 10-16-63 but shows Oswald still living in the house on Neely where the photo was taken. But he had left there in like April if I recall....going to New Orleans for a while and Mexico. When he returned he was bouncing around for a while and then rented the boarding room at Beckley St. on 10-14-63 while Marina was at their friends the Paine's in Irving. He went back and forth on the weekend and stayed there during the week. They left that entre 6 months or so out before he came back to Dallas which is fine but at least show where he was living correctly. Especially because that relates to their observation of him which would not be possible - they are still in the Neely house. They did show I guess what was supposed to be his previous apartment on Elsbeth, so at least they did that part.

Well anyway...gripe over...maybe they will show it later I don't know. Other things have been shown with a lot of accuracy.

Just finished the show. It was really, really good IMO.

One thing that it made me think about is you hear about the JFK assassination all the time from an overhead perspective. You hear about it mostly from the FBI and investigative perspective. But after watching this, it really made me wonder how the public was reacting? Was anyone who posts here in Dallas at the time that cares to share their experience? What was the atmosphere like?

It got beat to death here, but if you liked the show you should check out the book. Makes you care about the characters more and a better story in my opinion.

The audiobook version has a prologue by King where he talks about the research aspect and I feel it somewhat touched on your question. I will say I wish I could have read the book before my mom passed as she was in high school in West Texas at the time. Not in Dallas obviously but it was an event that had a major impact on her at the time, making you realize why Al thought everyone would be better off had JFK lived.

I talked to my great uncle about it. He was I believe about 30 when it happened, and was living in Mesquite. The way he described it, it was basically like 9/11. Everybody just kinda hit pause on their days and were glued to their tvs and radios.

Just finished. I thought it was an interesting story, and had a lot of heart. I really loved the ending. But I thought the writing and some of the continuity was just terrible. Really took away a lot of my enjoyment through the middle of the series.
