It is a lot of world building at the beginning.
These questions are borderline impossible to answer without talking plot points, you realize?TCTTS said:
Revisiting David's IndieWire review real quick, book readers, how much merit could this have / how "nervous" are you that this could be true? Granted, David is obviously in the minority, just curious to hear thoughts from the book readers on this. It’s hard to overstate how little actually happens in Denis Villeneuve's #Dune, which flows like an overture that’s stretched for the duration of an entire opera. @davidehrlich reviews: https://t.co/ogBxecXaps pic.twitter.com/K8TaZbpcTQ

Also, a huge part of the book is internal monologue. That's just not going to be easy to put on screen.
"Dune" is a weird story that can be viewed through so many different perspectives: environmentalist lens, a political intrigue lens, a cautionary tale on the danger of messianic figures, among others. His complaint seems to be that the story is told through a lens that he doesn't appreciate.
It's a massive epic and also an intimate story about different characters pondering their place in the march of history and humanity. It's going to be impossible to make a movie that fits everyone's "pet" interpretation of the book.

I get that. But from what I've inferred from discussion on the board the last few months, book readers seem to have a pretty good idea where the movie likely ends. So I guess what I'm asking is - without spoiling - if it ends where you think it ends, do you guys see enough story there, before that moment, to merit a two-and-a-half-hour movie? I'm not asking *for* the story, just if you could see it running a bit thin or not?
Two things:TCTTS said:

I have a suspicion that the 2 movie at least goes into the 2nd book somewhat.TCTTS said:

I'm definitely not going to take the effort, but it would be interesting to chart where highly anticipated or hyped films like Dune are for early/preview ratings versus where they wind up once in wide release.oragator said:

That's weird to call Dune 'populist'. Are we just conflating all Sci-fi with Marvel/Star Wars now?

Just silly, if the post is going to start people arguing, that wasn't my intent, and I'm happy to remove it.
How? Ivermectin is used to treat parasitic worms.Chipotlemonger said:
The Dune/worm tie in joke went over your head.
Ahhh, dewormer. I retract my statement. I was thinking more 'horse medicine'Sea Speed said:
Well considering that it is used as a dewormer, it makes enough sense for a Babylon bee article.
