So the guy has an entire podcast and the person that actually did it wasn't even on the radar?

I stopped listening immediately after finding out it was completely pointless.

I enjoyed it for a while but gave up after the constant patting his own back and the episode investigating the guy who had been contacting Payne. He just inserted himself into the narrative too much, and really enjoyed any mention of his podcast by authorities. I checked in to the arrest updates though.

Koenig had a much better produced and organized podcast with serial.

Listened to the last two few episodes on my drive today after reading responses here.

Same old formula - 30 minutes of fluff to fill the time. A few minutes of intriguing content at the end (that he may or may not ever circle back around to).

But I did learn about psychoanalysis from the expert he brought in. Homie posted Robert Frost quotes and Eve 6 lyrics on Facebook? Confirmed murderer!

I was really interested in this podcast before the arrests broke. And I don't exactly blame Lindsey for the arrests upending the podcast - by all accounts these guys weren't even targets of the police. But, since then, and with the case going forward under a gag order, the last few episodes have been so much filler: let's spend thirty minutes talking to his best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend about...something. Haven't even bothered listening to the most recent one.

"As you guys can tell, things have been pretty busy with Up and Vanished lately, and that has me looking for time-savers... like Stamps.com."

Things are progressing a bit, it seems, from the latest episode. My trick is skipping all the Case Evidence episodes and things like that. Main chapters only plz.

Last episode was definitely worth a listen. Couple of thoughts:

I am surprised that guy changed his mind about having his voice edited out. I would think he would have just wanted to remain anonymous, but Bo probably could figure out who it was based off of talking about their text messages.

Also,

Did you know that the Tara Grinstead case file is the largest in Georgia history? We are contractually obligated to mention this at least three times per episode.

As much as Payne can get on my nerves sometimes, I think he has done a good job of keeping this going, through the arrests. Once the arrests went down and the gag order issued, there wasn't a whole lot of material to work with. Before the arrests, he had all these conspiracy theories out there that he could run with which made for a really interesting listen. He has done a pretty good job IMO of keeping the podcast worth listening too.

But I totally agree with the poster above, I've cut out listening to all the interviews, Case Evidence, etc. Those are just filler at this point and are usually discussed in the bi-monthly episdoes anyways.

New episode where Bo Duke's ex-girlfriend tells everything she knows and how the case finally got solved.

Gotta say though, I got pretty bored. Had to fast forward to the end once it devolved into an argument between Brooke and Payne. Brooke seems dumb.

Yeah. Payne's amateurism is really showing up and I probably won't continue to listen after the most recent episode.

man that last ep was painfully amateur. payne is now so vested and interjecting himself that i just imagine a giant dildo sitting in front of a mic in a basement.

and the girlfriend crying and saying bo was going to be a mercenary for hire as retribution.

Agree with the last few comments. I'm past giving a $*** at this point.

But speaking of giving a $***, when I DO give a $****, I always use STAMPS.COM,...

Agreed.

And I suppose I'm in the minority on episode 19. If I were Payne, I'd have been unable to hide my disgust with Brooke talking for hours about why any slack at all should be cut for Bo in doing what he is accused of (and has apparently bragged about). Payne let his moral compass show and I'm good with that. Was it uncomfortable? Of course it was.

The last episode was awful. Payne arguing with Brooke was cringe worthy and he just comes across as dumb a lot of the time. Is he so biased or invested in this case that he literally doesn't understand what Brooke was saying about how Bo was trying to survive when he made his decisions. Obviously he didn't do the right thing, but it's not that outrageous for someone to think "oh crap my truck and my land were used to kill someone. The cops will arrest me for this and never believe me when I tell them what actually happened." Payne. acted like that was the dumbest thing he had ever heard. Again, he doesn't have to agree with that line of thinking but to just completely dismiss it in his holier than thou tone was really bad.

I'm probably done with this podcast.

Holier than thou??

Bo burned a human body.

How long do you want to ignore this user?

Haha, yea I know. Maybe holier than thou was a bad choice of words. But Payne came off awful in that interview. My wife felt the same way I did. At one point we looked at each other and both said, can you believe how this guy (Payne) is acting? We both grew to hate him in this episode.

And part of why we hated Payne was his arrogant tone and declaring that he would 100% do the right thing and couldn't even imaging why someone in Bo's situation would do what he did. Maybe Payne would have done the right thing and gone to the cops right away. But it's easy to say that when he wasn't in the situation of having a murder committed in his truck and a dead body on his property. Going to the cops in that situation and saying that your buddy committed a murder in your truck and took the body to your property, but you had nothing to do with it and knew nothing about it, but you do know about it now and are telling the cops because your buddy just admitted everything to you.... It's not that hard to see how someone could get freaked out and make a terrible decision bc they think they are screwed if they go to the cops with that seemingly BS story.

Again, Bo is obviously a sick individual and what he did was 100% wrong. But Payne acted like he couldn't even understand why Bo did what he did and that he couldn't understand why Bo would even think about doing what he did. It's pretty obvious why Bo did what he did (if all he really did was help hide and burn the body, who knows, he could have done more than just that). Payne's attitude and tone just came off terrible to me.

This show has been "over" since the arrests. At this point he's doing all he can to hold on to an audience who tuned in for a "whodunnit". Now that that question has been answered, the mysteries of "why" and "how" aren't nearly as compelling because we know we'll get those answers soon enough.
Whoop04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Payne was playing the part of a "tough journalist". You could almost see him glancing at his listeners and looking for approval that he was doing it right.

Brooke can walk off with reward $$ (100 large?).
Bo can walk off scot f'n free with his apparent plea deal.
Brooke and Bo can hook back up.

That prospect is just sick to me. Bear in mind that Bo has already served time for defrauding the American taxpayers to the tune of $150k.

And I'm not really sold on this narrative that Ryan walked into the victim's house and murdered her with one bare hand then loaded her body up, by himself, undetected and drove and dumped her at the pecan orchard.

It seems just as likely (if not more so) to me that the crime scene was the orchard and many people at that party were complicit in the actual killing out there. Ryan plead not guilty. It will be interesting to see if he will play the insanity card or not. It's not a sure thing that he confessed to the crime as charged in the indictment. It just doesn't make sense that he was breaking in to burglarize Tara's home. Ryan may come back and fight this by implicating Bo and maybe several others with a different (and more believable) explanation of what happened that night.

Yea it'll be very interesting to see what his defense will be. I agree that the story still doesn't make any sense at all, so there may be a ton of stuff that comes out at trial.

I just caught up and agree so much with this. He actually played a voicemail from his Grandma to his mom talking about how awesome he was. What was he thinking?

Otherwise, I think there still things about Bo's story that aren't adding up and will be interesting to follow.

I guess I'm in the minority too. I actually really liked how he pressed Brooke on her BS. I can't believe how much she defended that SOB Dukes. Both of them deserve to rot.

I just binged most of the series (slow couple days at work). I actually really like the amature nature and think for an amature who's not an experienced journalist or investigator he's done a really good job.

Quote:

I just caught up and listened to the Brooke episode. I am conflicted, I agree with you and others he was a bit unprofessional and was pushing her answer for Bo's actions versus try and get more story and just let the listener decide and draw their own conclusions. Then I also am kinda cheering him on. She was making excuses for Bo. As a listener I'm like BS you say you want justice and on the other hand you're kinda defending minimizing Bo's actions, NO BS and Payne took that line with her, which as a listener I enjoyed.

We have to remember this guy is not nor professes to a be news show or under the umbrella of a new organizations. He's a beginner filmmaker and wants to tell a story, so I'll give him some leeway for some tactics and fluff that I wouldn't accept from say an NPR podcast

Episode 20 is out. If Payne's sanctimonious streak is wearing on you, you get a big dose to start the episode, but there are some new revelations, and it sure appears that a lot more people have a lot more 'splainin to do. It is going to be ugly for a lot of people who kept info to themselves.
