"Can't imagine its as simple as not getting enough poon."

That cracks me up. Yes, I do think it's more than that. I just think it may be an affair-- due to said lack of poon--and lack of feeling loved by Madeline.

According to my wife, the affair was not in the book. Seems like a pretty big addition to me. I wonder why they did that?

I didn't get that joke. Is 'sade' famous? or have some connection to adele?

I feel like I'm showing my age. I loved Smooth Operator. But it's funny because the white lady assumes it's Adele but it's Sade and it doesn't make any difference because she can't distinguish between either of them vocally. She's very self absorbed.

Joke explained here:
http://www.vulture.com/2017/03/big-little-lies-funniest-scene.html

Quote:

How do we love this scene? Let us count the ways: (1) Reese Witherspoon is at her best at all times as Madeline, and especially here, as she's swaying back at forth, treating Bonnie's table settings with the disdain of a drunk, imperious house cat. (2) What better rich white mom joke is there than the fact that all white moms think everything is Adele? (3) Because of Drake's whole deal with Sade, we now want to know what Madeline thinks of Drake (she probably assumes his music is Justin Timberlake). (4) The exchange gets at the characters' class, money, and status anxieties: Nathan and Bonnie's gorgeous home implies that they're more sophisticated, or maybe just richer, than Madeline and Ed, and so Madeline and Ed fall over themselves to seem cool. (5) Madeline's super-hip, music-obsessed daughter Chloe would be so embarrassed by all of this.

I didn't think it was that complex. Just that Bonnie is more genuine so she has a retro taste for Sade. Madeline just assumes it was be Adele because that would be the trendy thing to be listening to. And the fact that they have it in their music catalog and she didn't know it.

Okay, big finale. I think Perry gets killed and it's by someone unexpected like Ed. Now, to people who have read the book, should I read the book or not? Obviously it may not be as fun to read knowing the outcome but I often hear that the book is better than the movie and maybe it would still be enjoyable. Open to opinions on reading book after watching series.

I've only read the book synopsis about two weeks ago when I got impatient waiting for the next episode. I have wondered how the book presents the police interviews that have been distributed throughout the show. I like the way the show integrates them to create humor between scenes.

Definition of mediocre. The whole thing. Somewhat entertaining, but somewhat "ehhh so what?"

Disappointing because the first episode or two were very good

I enjoyed the episode. Just didn't understand why they lied to the cops about what happened. Would Kravitz really be prosecuted for pushing the husband after 3 other women couldn't stop him from beating the crap out of his wife?

What a complete waste of time. Good cinematography, beach shots, and house porn. Utterly underwhelming plot that quickly stalled out and had a boring and predictable conclusion. The big surprise is that Bonnie is the one who pushes the rapist/wife beater as he's in process of attacking his wife? I'm supposed to be satisfied with that ending? I don't care about the "who" in that scenario. Just a bunch of red herrings leading to the absolute most predictable answers.

My wife and I just finished it. Amazing cast and great score. Only question: who is watching them at the end? Is it just the female cop who keeps flicking the lighter? Also what is the significance of the lighter flick? Seemed pretty pervasive at the end there

You really predicted the person responsible for the death
Doubtful until about 5 min before it actually happened

I said that was the only surprise. But who did it was irrelevant in that scenario. We were led to believe it was a murder. It wasn't.

Yea it was the cop watching them and it was her flicking the lighter. That's how Episode 1 began; with the detectives observing the body while the female detective flicked her lighter. Doesn't mean anything other than telling the audience the story has come full circle.

A really intense episode with so many intersecting plot lines.

And then it just kinda falls flat. the easiest plot answer was the answer. Really disappointing. They had gone overboard with calling that guy "the monster" and dressing him in black and escalating everything he did.

And then somehow everyone's life is a picnic on the beach.

A show with so many twists and webs and imperfections and everyone but the violent guy who dies ends up happy??

Acting was incredible. The cinematography was exceptional. The characters were all interesting. Even the kid actors were great. Music was quite cool.

I just didn't want the plot line we could all see for miles.

I think somehow Bonnie knew of Perry's abusive nature. She kept watching him and decided to pursue. She grabbed her own throat after the push. Makes me think once upon a time maybe he came onto her or they had a thing and she knew.

This.

We watched this because my wife read the book and the cast was great. First couple of episodes were slow for me than I really started enjoying it. Finale' was just flat. I said the same thing. Outside of an Islamic country, where the hell would anyone be prosecuted for fighting off a man beating a woman? Just stupid.

My wife tried to explain that the ending of the book made a lot more sense but it still brought me back to the same conclusion. Nowhere is this a deal. Hell, they would all be considered heroes anywhere in the first world.

My guess is this. It's not uncommon for a writer or writers, books or tv or movies, to come up with a really good story, really good characters, and then have no idea on how to actually end it. Seems the case here.

My wife said that in the book she came from an abusive home. That may have made more sense, on the HBO series, had it be known Bonnie was ultra sensitive to domestic violence prior to the last 10 minutes. Just sayin.

Agree with the point about lying to the cops. Why? Just tell them what went down.

The guy was kicking the crap out of a woman. Other woman shoves him and he happens to fall down the steps and dies.

Sounds like defense of a third party to me.

I was disappointed in how it ended; I agree with those who said we were lead to believe it was a murder and it really wasn't. Having said that I did like the suspense of trivia night. Everybody is in costume or looks different. Especially Ed. Then Perry looked quite different (and even more scary) in costume. I was disappointed there wasn't more resolution with Madeline and Ed.

i think it was portrayed that ed was figuring it out as the night went on before his song. then had short pause to see if he still feels the way his song makes him feel and ultimately decides it does. decent way to get a small amount of resolution without spending a lot of time on it.

I somewhat agree that the ending was a little flat bc we were lead to believe there was a murder. I kept thinking Jane or Bonnie were just going to shoot him before he did anything wrong.

I still loved the show though and still liked the finale. The costumes and the music at the party made the episode so tense waiting on what you thought would be a murder.

Will there be a season two? If so, are they going the true detective/American horror story route where each season is unrelated?

Watched the season with my wife who had read the book. I really liked the show and thought the finale was decent.

After talking to my wife I decided that they lied to the police to keep their secrets/maintain their "perfect" facades as much as possible. Kindman's character in particular didn't want people to know she was married to a wife beater rapist. Ziggy's mom didn't want the rape story out there either.

Also probably lied to protect he kids from the truth.

I enjoyed the season. Even though it ended with the most predictable theory I liked all the misdirection and discussion that brought out. The cinematography, music, and acting were all fantastic. I also understand why they lied to the cops to protect the kids and Jane's rape. Not every story has to have a Sixth Sense mind screw.

Yup... Hence them having the huge funeral for Perry and everyone showing up to it.

I can see Ed putting two and two together, but it just wasn't enough for me. Not enough closure. A small amount of resolution on that one that made it feel like an unfinished story.
