between layne staley and chris cornell, the 90's produced 2 of the greatest voices in rock music history and they're both gone too young.

Is Eddie Vedder the last of the Mohicans?

Today is the 25yr anniversary release of the sound track I believe (at least that's what I think I heard on the radio this morning). Anyway, it's supposed to have some Cornell singles on there previously unreleased. Funny, I saw that movie about a month ago for the first time in years. Forgot how many of those guys were in it and they perform Ritual in one of the club scenes. I love that song!Quote:
Incredible talent. Go back and watch the movie "Singles." He and several other Seattle rock icons are in it before they all blew up.
and Cantrell. He's a co-front man anyway. He sang too much to not include him in the group, imo.Furlock Bones said:Vedder and Corgan and to a lesser extent Grohl since his time as leading man came post GrungeSWCBonfire said:

but, Vedder is definitely the last big dog that truly defined that era.

All the good ones are dying. Why couldn't it have been the lead singer of a band like smashmouth instead?
one of my favorites as well.GiveEmHellBill said:
I'm a huge Bond fan, and Cornell contributed one of the all-time great Bond theme songs to one of the all-time great Bond movies.

Hey now...
Yeah, I'm really kicking myself for turning down an invite to that showJunkhead said:
Now I'm really glad I went to LA for that Temple Of The Dog show last November.
Staley was def the majority vocal and true lead man, but cantrell sang a lot.. loads of dual vocal with staley like down in a hole, them bones, no excuses, brother, angry chair, again. In those songs, neither one of them is really lead; to get technical, they are usually singing in a perfect 5th, which doesn't make any one a harmony and one a lead.Furlock Bones said:
good call. i just think AiC and think Staley. i believe it was Matt Penfield that said something to the effect of "he brought an operatic voice to rock.".

Those are the opening lines to the last song Chris Cornell ever sang on stage. It was a cover of Led Zeppelin's "In My Time of Dying."
Cornell and his band Soundgarden have covered the song before and they did it again to close out the show at Detroit's Fox Theater on Wednesday. Just hours later, Cornell was found dead. He was 52.
