So does this win for soundtrack or for editing (to the soundtrack). Or both?

That was great. So much fun. Amazing soundtrack.

Don't believe it can get an Oscar for soundtrack since it's not original music.

You're right. I thought they had something for score vs soundtrack. Guess not.

What a fun movie. Edgar Wright uses music/sound editing and cut scenes so brilliantly. There' are so many small manicured details throughout. I'm sure we'll watch the first 'getting coffee' scene over and over for new subtle easter eggs.

Did anyone catch that the Butcher was Paul Williams who wrote Rainbow Connection along with many other hits?

I thought the movie was terrible. So stupid. Last 20 minutes was unwatchable.

What style of movie is this? What are some movies that it is similar to?
I want to go see it (especially after reading this thread) but I can't convince my wife because of the damn title.

A heist movie set to music

I guess I would compare it to other heist movies like The Italian Job or Oceans 11, but with Wright's signature style... So if you've seen Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz or Scott Pilgrim then you have an idea.

Honestly it's like nothing I've ever seen though, but it's definitely a heist/car chase movie.

I had high expectations because of this thread, as my movie opinions generally seem to track with the Texags consensus.

So I'm disappointed to say I was pretty underwhelmed. Definitely fun at times, but an overall meh from me. The last twenty minutes went in a different direction than I expected tonally, and didn't connect for me.

Really liked it. Had a lot more driving than Drive, so it delivered on the thrills. Great cast.

I'll be honest, I was loving it until the last 20 minutes as well.

After that, it went from great to good.

Still recommend it, but it's not an all-timer for me.

Loved it! Best movie I've seen in awhile. The ending did kinda drag along. Like the dude should've died 5 times already but still really enjoyable movie to catch in theater.

Also props to the editing team who worked on this. To time everything not only with music but music that they were listening to in the movie is unbelievably time consuming to get it perfect.

Excellent movie! Fun and entertaining. Loved the opening chase scene. Loved the way it played out through his getting the coffee. So many intricate details. Count me as one that actually liked the ending and how it got there.

tone shifts were weird

music video to meet cute to crime/heist to horror

but it was entertaining and well done throughout

Just out and geez that was fantastic, not sure some of you are watching the same film as the rest of us.

Great acting, brilliant musical choices, and just a ton of fun. Easily one of the best things I've seen this year.

Also underwhelmed. Definitely not a bad movie. The pacing was hit or miss. I thought Jon Hamm was miscast even though he did his best with the role. Jamie Foxx was incredible. A good summer movie, but nothing more. Something was off and I still can't put my finger on what it was. I give it a B.

Same. Was enjoying it a ton and the ending just made the movie fizzle out for me. Again, still a very good movie, but the ending was not nearly as good as the rest of the film and, in my opinion, drug it down some.

Its good enough that I will rewatch it a few times once it's on hbo and such, but not something I could watch again in theaters.

Saw it yesterday- loved it. Unique film where the music drives the entire film. Loved that the Houston Kashmere High School stage band made the soundtrack

like others said, the final act seemed like a different movie, but overall it was a great film. can't wait to get the soundtrack.

I think I enjoyed more than you but I feel the same about most of this post. It was pretty good but not as great as many people on here are making it out to be.

Brought the wife to see it again. Not sure if enjoyed the movie as much, but I was picking up the little stuff this time. Seeing all the Harlem shuffle lyrics on the walls. John Ham's puns when baby's trying to sneak out.

But the thing that blew my mind was how car horns, punches, and gun shots were all placed to the beat of the music. The taquila shoot out and the chase to hocus pocus stood out especially. Walked away more impressed with Wright's direction than the story.

This. Not sure where I picked it up during the story, but this was one of the coolest elements of the movie.

I loved this movie and will likely see it again. Really cool vibe. The use of the music as a narrative and stylistic tool is smart, innovative and an integral part of the story. In this regard, it has a similar feel as LaLa Land.
