it made over $200 mil in 2003, and now that i read that i'm amazed it is that old. it still feels relevant.

only issue would be trying to get Russell Crowe back in shape. lol.

aka Sloan Kettering aka Lazlo Hollyfeld

Scrolling through on demand last night I saw Master and Commander. Hadn't seen it in several years. So we'll done. Would really have loved to see more of those movies.

For those of you who read the books, we're you happy with the film version of it?

I love the books and loved the film. It's probably my favorite movie of the last 20 years.

I finally corrected a sin and watched Master and Commander for the first time.

What an excellent film. Not the thread to gush about the film itself but when it finished, I dearly wanted more. Perfect way to end to if they wanted to flesh it out more.

In TA parley....MOAR!!!

The reported budget was 150 million. So while the film was well received by critics and movie goers its box office was not large enough (compared to its budget) nor did it garner enough big awards to commit to a franchise.

Explain this line visually

" A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights"

and no, don't show him about to kill a bunch of elementary aged kids nor show me him going into the jedi temple then cut scene nor him killing an old jedi who gave up.

I want to see him hunt down and destroy Jedi Knights.

Would also really help if said actor hunting down and destroying Jedi knights was even remotely believable in his role.

Also, just to build on your point, I want to see Anakin Skywalker the "great warrior" and "good friend" of Obi wan Kenobi, who was actually a kind, likable person before he tragically fell to the dark side to the shock of his friends and family. Not a sniveling, whiny little self-entitled bltch who was jealous and angry from the get-go and obviously headed to the dark side the whole time.

I still can't believe how ****ing terrible those movies are.

The Dresden Files needs a full series. Make each episode about 90 minutes and give it one book each. Self contained dark, gritty, and funny fantasy/detective noirs set in the modern day.

I know it's a matter of when and not if, but whoever films the Cosmere(Brandon Sanderson's) universe needs to put Star Wars type money up and start cranking out the book adaptations with a real commitment. As a fantasy I would dare to say that at this point there is more depth and scope in the Cosmere than any fantasy series before it including Tolkien. Sanderson is a writing machine so the films will never catch up his writing chronologically.

Artistically some of the books have entirely unique settings that would look awesome on-screen, like the Ashfalls/ Kredic Shaw in Mistborn, the Forest of Hell, the fallen imperial city of Elantris, the Shattered Planes/Urithiru in Stormlight, or the unique color spectrum in Warbreaker. There is untold visual potential that is ripe for filmaking, but picking and choosing only a few stories will not give the Cosmere justice. I guess I just want to see Ironeyes in live action...

1) I think the most obvious un-explored territory on big time TV right now is Westworld.

So far we've seen absolutely NOTHING about the 'real' world. All we know is that the extremely wealthy use these time piece themeparks to escape their own reality.
Sometimes it's best we don't get what we want...

Yes, I now wish we knew less about the 'real world' in Westworld.

Love this thread. Master & Commander sequel is in the works, apparently, so this is a pretty timely bump!

I've watched them. Pretty weak that they had to make a cartoon to try and cover for the sh*tacular movies.

I think they could make many seasons of this just by doing each book in 3-4 episodes, maybe 5 for the higher books.

I think the big thing holding this back is the significant budget the 3rd and 4th books would require which I would imagine the 3rd book might complete the first season. It would also be a hell of a draw to include grave peril since it is easily the best of the first 4 books.

I figure someone just has the rights for this under lock and doesn't plan on doing anything with it ever until someone makes an offer.

Honestly I always wanted Dean from supernatural to play Dresden he just isn't tall enough. He carried that show.
