I don't even skip it on rewatch. Just went through the entire series again during COVID and sat through it every time.

A Sopranos entire series binge for the 5th time is in my near future.
That looks great!

I recently completed my 4th full rewatch. SO SO SO good.....I loved every minute and felt like it was flying by too fast. Was getting sad toward the end of S6P1 and then S6P2 was just one slow gut punch of inevitability.

So many little things jump out on each rewatch though. And it is so good I cannot stop once I start on a rewatch. Took .6 weeks maybe like 2 per day.

Gotta admit this is looking very promising. Coincidentally in the middle of Sopranos Season 1 right now.

Corey Stoll is a fantastic actor. He left House of Cards way too soon. Excited to see Dickie Moltisanti's backstory also.

Vera Farmiga's bit there looks like she's zeroing in on the Livia character pretty well. The little non-verbal snort was spot on.
i just recently started watching sopranos for the first time (so amazing) and Livia is up there on the "worst tv characters" for me.

The acting job Nancy Marchand did was amazing, really one of the most hateable characters ever portrayed. Everything from the way she did her eye contact, tone of voice, and body language was playing to the psycho manipulative woman.

Yep. Just finished it for the 6th (I think) time. She did an incredible job with that character. I hate her every time.

She did an amazing job right up until she died. Then after she died, that was some horrible acting.

Truly repulsive in every way.

And she was nothing like that in real life. From every indication the Sopranos cast and crew loved her. Apparently she was the only person who came even close to what they wanted for Livia during her casting audition - Chase says he laughed all the way thru it not because she played it comedically but it was so dry and monotone and perfectly horrible that it made him laugh. But she was a joy on the set from what I've heard and she loved not having to wear makeup or get dressed up for her part.

In contrast - her only other role I know really - she was very different (powerful but in a different way a strong leader and female foil to Ed Asner's lead character) on Lou Grant for which she won the Emmy for supporting actress 4 times.

lol.... only Livia could create Janice.

I was watching those previews you can see Janice a few times in some scenes I hope they get her right too. Tony needs to be exhausted by her even then.

She starts off as this flighty bothersome airhead, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The character development of that series was really amazing.

I didn't really buy into that and I don't think we were supposed to either.

It was all part of some scam to avoid responsibility (for her kid for example) and Tony wasn't buying any of it saying he knew her all along and the real Janice would resurface - and she did. He pushed a few buttons but he knew she was in there.

Agreed, but that layer was there as her coping/smokescreen that they lead in with and then slowly reveal the rest. The characters are so complete, you almost wonder if it was based on someone real.

Ahhhh Newark - where bad smells go to die!

I had to go through MEPS in that s***hole many years ago (entrance medical exam for the military - maybe they call it something else now). A scared, scrawny 20yo walking through the streets of Newark at 5am; steel drums set ablaze

That's the setting for this; makes so much sense. Crime in one of America's worst cities!

Can you explain what this insult means? Cuz I agree Newark is a dump but it seems like bad smells would stop being bad smells when they die.

I think Livia was based on Chase's mother.

After 3?? 4?? Rewatches, i love watching the Livia and Janice development more than I did a long time ago. They were just amazing and one of my favorite scenes is when Janice shoots Richie Aprileand how Tony deals with that.

A bad smell that has died and is rotting sounds worse than just a bad smell.
