Pretty good. Surprised I hadn't heard about it before yesterday. Anyone else seen it? Kept my wife and I on edge for 2 hours. Great cast.

Didn't want to be a negative Nancy here, but I thought the premise was way too near A Quiet Place and The Happening to seem any bit creative. Sandra Bullock's acting seemed lazy, and the ending totally sucked. I get that sometimes the best movies are sometimes the one that never defeat the evil, but they really seemed to wrap it up too quickly after the rapids.

With that said, it was a nice flick to just checkout for an hour and a half and kept me watching.

Was sort of hoping they would have learned somewhere along the way the reason this was happening.

watched it last night and thought it was average at best.

What was the point of the movie, besides being a "thriller"?

It's like they went with the "viral zombie infection" theme, but mixed in the supernatural element, without ever explaining or resolving the supernatural component.......

Fwiw, Bird Box is the film adaptation of a book published in 2014

A Quiet Place just came out first.

I thought it was great! The whole point of not explaining or resolving the supernatural element was that that element was different to everyone. What I imagine it could be might be totally different from what you imagine, but either way it would drive us to the same level of insanity.

Very average with a terrible ending.

Am I the only one who enjoyed this? I thought it was one of the more unsettling thrillers I've seen. Covered a lot within 2 hrs. Would have been great as a series.

Maybe it will be developed into a series. Reminded me of the Netflix movie about the apocalypse that launched a few months back.

I enjoyed it enough for a Netflix film

My coworker enjoyed it, not sure I'd trust his opinion though.

Haven't seen it.

Tough crowd. I enjoyed it. It kept my wife and I on the edge of our seat the entire movie. And I usually think horror movies are trash.

I'd give it a 6/10. Some parts were well done (character intros, plot set-up, some of the imagery), but other parts just didn't make any narrative or pacing sense (what's the deal with non-blind people who are still functioning, some pretty reckless navigating considering they're blindfolded, not enough exposition on the blind sanctuary).

The direct comparison is A Quiet Place and I think that one blew this out of the water.

It was aight, def worth watching on Netflix.

It was like a competent The Happening. Still kind of silly, but creepy and well-done enough to be effective and not an unintentional comedy.

It's like they mixed The Happening with TWD and A Quiet Place.

It's time to move on from the dystopia settings.

I was going to start this thread after I watched it because I also really enjoyed it. But, I know the film critics on here are a pretty tough crowd and there would be a lot of boos amongst us so I decided not to. I can understand some of the complaints. Though, the biggest one I'm seeing here and on social media is that people are upset over the lack of resolution and explanation.

The fact that they chose to NOT reveal anything is the biggest selling point to me though. Monster reveals and explanations/resolutions are never as good as I hope they will be. Some goofy looking CGI demon or animal (like in The Ritual) just ruins all the terrific suspense you endured over the course of the movie. Id rather be left in the dark, no pun intended

Not good

Not scary

At least The Happening was a decent comedy

Why would they make Sandra Bullock such a ***** without even explaining why? 'Boy' and 'Girl' naming was the least believeable part

****spoilers****

One of the few times the lady and I had very strong, different opinions. She loved it and cried at the end when they were "safe" and the kids got their names at the end of the movie.

Don't get me wrong. This movie kept me watching. I love "Con Air" John Malkovich, and he did a little of this here. I wanted to like the ending, but I couldn't help but laugh. At least "A Quiet Place" left you with hope, a yearning for the story to continue, and a sequel of some kind. This one accomplished nothing except me realizing they will die and suffer.

I laughed at the ridiculousness of ending the movie like that with the implication that everything is OK because they are with a bunch of blind people. Sandra Bullock's character was in such denial of her situation, feeling and hope that she refused to name the children after 5 years?!? What kind of BS is this. And now, she has a revelation after being rescued to a larger "prison" with more people where they can't leave/wait to be gunned down by the crazy people?

I liked that it didn't tie everything in a nice bow and make it clear that everything was going to be ok. It was refreshing in that regard.

Not naming the kids isn't that big of a stretch considering she expects them to be killed/kill themselves at any time.

Her naming them "Boy" and "Girl" is an excusable narrative point to me. They spent the opening of the movie explaining how she was naturally disconnected and didn't expect any sort of increased shared intimacy just because she's going to become a mother.

What is inexcusable however is the fact that the girl's mom wanted to name her daughter Ariel or Jasmine. And what does Sandra Bullock name her? ****ing Olympia. SMH.

Thought it was ok. Enjoyed John Malkovichs performance.

But the memes on facebook are better than the actual flick.

They could have shown you what someone saw through their eyes. For example, Tom could have seen something horrible happening to his sister. Something that would show the audience it is unique to him, but enough to make him commit suicide. But then I'm sure you'd have people saying that's not enough to make you commit suicide.

For those familiar with Harry Potter, it's like a boggart, but magnified. The scene in Harry Potter where they each are confronted by their deepest fear is a big part of the movie.

It reminded me of that Chuck Palahnuk short story where they found proof of Heaven so everyone started committing suicide.

Maybe it wasn't fear, maybe they saw heaven...

With a large enough sample size that wouldn't matter, as that would likely happen for some % of all Netflix movies.

Thought it was all very average with plenty of things that have been done before.

That being said, my biggest gripe with the movie was... why would Tom go outside to meet the crazy people near the end?

It's already been established that the people who can see without killing themselves are bad people that will try and kill you (by way of forcing you to see). So Tom steps outside blindfolded vs 5 people? That was basically suicide. I get that he was attempting to give Malorie time to get away with the kids -- but blindfolded Malorie and kids on their own on the run from 5 maniacs has a lot less of an expected chance of survival than they do with Tom still alive.

If you can't use your vision when you go outside, then it should be a pretty standard strategy to try and get evil people who can see inside to level the playing field.

Minor gripe: how did the kids survive the waterfall? I doubt they learned how to swim or even keep afloat in the house they grew up in.

I could never get comfortable watching. Right about the time I would, something happened in the storyline. It never let you get bored. I wish we would've known more about why some could look and most couldn't (I know, some were insane) and how and why the entity started. All in all, good movie that deserves to be watched once, but I don't think it's a movie I'll be watching again. 6.3/10
