Minor gripe: how did the kids survive the waterfall? I doubt they learned how to swim or even keep afloat in the house they grew up in.

They were witches.

Her naming them "Boy" and "Girl" is an excusable narrative point to me. They spent the opening of the movie explaining how she was naturally disconnected and didn't expect any sort of increased shared intimacy just because she's going to become a mother.

What is inexcusable however is the fact that the girl's mom wanted to name her daughter Ariel or Jasmine. And what does Sandra Bullock name her? ****ing Olympia. SMH.

She named the girl Olympia because that was the girl's mom's name

Not bad. Was hoping there'd be an explanation as to why it affected some people differently.

If Bird Box and A Quiet Place happened at the same time, people would be good and ****ed, eh?

Get by on smell?

I enjoyed it. There were some plot holes and a few eye rolling moments (like the syncing births, Tom being crazy in shape after five years of food rationing and no gym), but overall it was pretty good. I don't always need resolutions or explanations to things. If the people in the movie have no idea what's going on, why should I?

"Fwiw, Bird Box is the film adaptation of a book published in 2014

A Quiet Place just came out first."

I read this quote before the wife and I watched the movie yesterday. It made me enjoy Bird Box more and have a bigger meh feeling for A Quiet Place. Sounds like Jim stole the idea and was rewarded for beating the competition... Sinner.

Had Bird Box been out first, I feel AQP would have been received the same way. It boils down to which was seen first.

I wonder how many people were like me and thought they were watching the trailer for it and decided to stay after it finally clicked that it was autoplaying the movie

I hate that this happens.

Nah, A Quiet Place is the better movie, regardless of which one came out first or was based on a book.

Interesting that everyone assumes some people can see without killing themselves. I thought those people were actually taken over and controlled by the creatures.

I don't think they were taken over. Those that could see were evil people that had mental disorders, hence the mental institution that was taken over. I don't think they were controlled, just easily convinced.

Did anyone read the book? How would really young kids react to seeing the creatures? Would a one year old that doesn't understand death or even fear try to kill themselves?

We never saw the creatures kill anyone themselves, right? At the end when they were running through the woods were they completely safe the whole time as long as they didn't look?

Watched A Quiet Place for the first time last week and Bird Box this week and there's no competition, A Quiet Place blew it out of the water.

Thought the intro to Bird Box was interesting, then it got a bit confusing in the house (it was never really made clear who knew each other already or not) then dropped off from there.

I really didn't care whether the lead characters made it or not, which for me is the key thing in any horror survival film. You've got to be invested in the characters and I just wasn't.

I liked it but I'm a sucker for anything post-apocalypse. That said, one must be quite forgiving to maintain suspension of disbelief.

Did all the dogs and cats kill themselves, too? Seems kinda weird to go the entire movie based on lack of vision and not have a single dog involved.

A dog's brain isn't complex enough to understand seeing some kind of demon and wanting to kill itself. I think this was more of a evil is taking over and cleansing the world of good type of thing. This is why I brought up really little kids that don't understand evil and death. What did they do? It was a plot hole that was never really explained.

Yeah, it just bothers me that with everyone dying there were no loose dogs anywhere. Especially since they are the species that we've bred and trained to help blind people for centuries.

I think the implication was that all/most animals suffered a similar fate. I want to say one of the characters talked about how it was so quiet outside with no birds.

Though that would then make the final scene questionable.

I think ultimately it just really wasn't that well fleshed out a movie.

Insanely derrivative. Absolutely **** for dialogue. Unbelievable pr miss of 37367373737 strangers in a house.

When your movie reminds me of the happening so much you already ****ed up.bb

Spoiler alert for those who don't want to see it...

But I read the book - in the book they go to the same facility, but are required to blind themselves. It's been a while since I read it so I can't remember what all was different from the movie, but that was a pretty big difference.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It has its flaws, but I also think it unfairly suffers from negative connotations of being similar to The Happening when it's much more well done than that ****pile.

Yes, they could have done more with the people in the house. You also have people like Rosa Salazar (the cop trainee) and MGK that just cut and run with no explanation. I assume all of the stuff about food being limited played a part in their decision, but it was pretty clear that leaving the house was dangerous as ****.

Agree with above posts. I think there were too many people in the house initially. Most of them were not important to the story anyways.

Eh...was meets expectations Imo considering the hype..worth watching, but could have been a lot better by avoiding some of the typical pitfalls this genre can't seem to get out of its own way on.

The "baby born into the end times and then the mom dies and then someone else in the group has to raise it" storyline is even more exhausting than the "mad at the world a hole guy that doesn't want to let anyone else into the group" bit. Neither plot line ruins the story, but both are played out.

I also think we allow the writers to get away with not explaining the "why" of their version of s hitting the fan... walking dead, quiet place, etc...this one was probably the most vague of any of them. Sure, that isn't the over riding topic of the story, it's about the characters , yada yada, but at some point it's a cop out.

Overall though...B+ and worth 2 hours

I read the book awhile back and watched the movie last night.

I get the comparisons to A Quiet Place, but the difference is A Quiet Place works more as a movie because of it's premise.

Bird Box was much better as a book because while reading the book you are seeing everything from the point of view of the blindfolded person, so it really builds the suspense. But watching it as a movie you see all of the things that the blindfolded person can't so it loses what made it interesting and suspenseful.

It was a fine movie, and I enjoyed it, but it's better in book form.

Watched it and wasn't very impressed. It held my attention, and I thought the best scenes were the ones involving the weird dude that showed up halfway through and ended up being a predictable bad guy. Otherwise, pretty meh.

Really enjoyed it. Quiet place was much more suspenseful but this movie gave me an uncomfortable feeling throughout. Has some minor plot holes but it's the Best Netflix original movie I've seen by far, very entertaining. I give it a b+ or a-.

I can definitely see how the book would be better because you are seeing everything from the blind folded point of view.
