Parks and Rec - does it get funnier?

Season 1 is definitely worth watching with the understanding that it is still finding its legs. Leslie becomes more of a straight man instead of the fool around the start of season 2 and it takes off from there. And as others have said, while it's not as good as what follows, Season 1 is still better than 90% of what's out there.

Basically if you don't at least LIKE Parks and Rec, I question your whole personality. So funny. So much heart.

Aaaaaand just watched the first 10 minutes of the pilot again. Still funny. Get some good early sleazy/lazy Tom in there, and our first town hall meeting. Leslie is definitely cringey like early Michael Scott but it's definitely not NOT funny.

If you can watch Tom go over his apps and zerts routine without laughing you may have no soul

if you do not like comedies, you will not like seasons 1-3, you should stop now

Y'all know it's okay to like different things, right?

For the record: I always heard to skip S1. Still haven't seen it. I think 2-4 were my favorites. My interest really lagged down the stretch, I think in S6. S7, kind of the same but it ended well.

The wife and I totally did a "Treat yo self 2016" and had a small cookie cake made, mimosas, pedicures, and frivolous shopping on fine leather goods. Come to think of it, I think 2019 were due for another.

Parks and Rec is our go to show, when we're on the couch and can't find anything, we cue up Parks and Rec and watch a couple episodes.

And this if my favorite gif ever:

That style of show sucks. I can't stand the single shaky/jerky camera sitcom. Didn't help that I didn't even find it remotely funny.

Yeah, sound stages, studio audiences, and laugh tracks are much more awesome. CBS sitcoms are a real hoot.

I'm with the OP but I'm going to give it another shot. We watched the first 2-3 episodes of S1 and it sucked.

And, for the record, I like this kind of show. I've seen so many references to Ron Swanson over the years that I have to watch it so will struggle through S1 to get there.

I'm thinking about this like Seinfeld. S1 of Seinfeld was terribly not funny. I recently watched a few episodes from it and it was shockingly bad. To the point that I'm surprised it was renewed but glad it did!

Yeah I know. I read that the writers were super pissed because it was funnier than most of the lines they write.

That scene and Patton Oswalt's Marvel/Star Wars crossover theory scene were gold.

meh, this show was like panning for gold with this show. I didn't care for Tom, Donna, or Ann but kept panning to get nuggets from Ron, Andy, or April. Ben and Chris, especially Ben, helped save the show.

I remember hearing or reading (can't remember which) he got in big trouble for a scene in which he was naked when Ann and Leslie opened the front door to Anna house.

I've never seen anyone say they didn't like Tom.

Leslie: Is this a bad time?
Tom: Lucy's here, I'm in my sexy pajamas. I just took four Benadryls to dull my sensitivity. Yes!
Leslie: You're about to have sex.
Tom: Why else would Boyz II Men's "On Bended Knee" be playing right now?

yeah, Tom's schtick and his side business partners (Giancarlo and sister and others) were annoying to me. Tom could be funny but watching Aziz do stand up was worse.

Come to think of it, most sitcoms suck in all reality. Last one I recall liking was Married with Children.

I don't watch more comedy now that Community and New Girl are done. Brooklyn 99 is great but most current comedies are meh. Good Place doesn't make me laugh but is enjoyable to watch for some reason.

FWIW I didn't like him either, only character I didn't like. He was the most cliched character on the show, which was the against beauty of the show - they weren't that way for the most part. The few times they humanized him he was watchable.

Did we watch the same show? Virtually every side character (not part of the main ensemble) was super clichd.

Legendary newswoman Joan Callamezo
Perd
The recurring citizens who show up to public forums
Bobby Newport
Brandi Maxxx
Gun emporium guy
Etc

I was talking about Tom, among the main characters he was easily the most cliched and least sympathetic. Never found anything he did funny or remotely interesting, just labored and a waste of time.

Jean ralfio was annoying too, but he wasn't on screen that much. For some reason I actually liked JR's sister though.

Season 2, Episode 2 is where the show takes off, I've decided. The introduction of Louis CK was a big step forward in developing Leslie.

Yea, its totally normal to not like a comedy that a lot of others do. People have different senses of humor at times.Skipping the 1st season of a show is pretty stupid, especially one that is basically the king of callbacks
