Spider-Man is one of the top 3 most popular superheroes in comic book history. FFH will do much better than Ant-Man and the Wasp (which wasn't a good movie). Wouldn't be surprised if it does better than Homecoming, which made a lot of money.

Ant Man and Wasp was a hell of a lot better than BP.

IF - and that's a big IF - this multi-verse angle turns out to be true, I think that might be a bridge too far for me. Time travel is one thing, but once we open up this cinematic universe into infinite universes, it all starts to lose a little weight and consequence for me. It's just too much. That, and especially on the heels of Into the Spider-Verse, we're potentially doing kind of the same thing here as well??? Is that now a Spider-Man franchise prerequisite? With Into the Spider-Verse, that was the whole conceit, and it worked phenomenally well, obviously, but to introduce that into the MCU... no thanks.

That said, yeah, SURELY this is a ruse put on by Mysterio, as that's his whole thing.

Do people understand that there has been multiple universes for years in BOTH Marvel and DC? This isn't something just made up for the movies...

It's different for movies. I agree with TC, multiverses just don't do much for me in movies. (They're fine for animated movies, but for live action, it just makes things feel TOO comic-booky, stakes are lowered, etc.)

I think it will fall somewhere between Homecoming (adjusted to $900MM) and Iron Man 3 (adjusted to $1.3B).

Where it falls will depend on reception. Maybe I am underestimating Spider-man fever post Endgame.

I think everyone understands that, but it works in comics when there's hundreds of characters, many of whom, have been around for over 50 years.

But isn't that part of why comic books are so hard to keep track of?

I am sure it will be, given its timing, but a small part of me also wonders to what extent MCU fatigue is setting in for some people since many of us got a sense of closure with Endgame.

I have no idea what % of MCU consumers I may represent, but this is exactly where I am at. I'm a casual fan who has kids that typically enjoy MCU. But my interest is checked out post End Game.

That's not a knock on this film or the MCU or really a knock on anything. I was on the hype train for the Avengers based story every since 2012. Not being a comic book/super hero fan in general, I'm done. It would take something epic to get me reinvested. Wondering out loud what % of MCU fans feel that way as well now that Stark is dead, CA changed his arc, Thanos defeated, etc.

Question. In the trailer Fury drops the line "***** please". How is that appropriate for a trailer?

Not that I care that they curse in the movies, but advertising on public television/social media? I laughed when he said it, but found it odd that it cleared for the trailer.

They're allowing "sh*t" in non-red-band trailer now too. I can't remember which trailer, but it was in the last couple of weeks, and I was surprised as well.

Has it aired on tv? They say things like that in trailers all the time, but edited for tv,

I don't think it's made it to TV just yet due to spoilers of endgame. Would have to wait and see if it makes it.

Quick note re: box office. Spider-Man: Homecoming was immediately followed by War for the Planet of the Apes. It has the biggest 2nd week drop in the MCU, but it's also the only MCU film I can think of with immediate competition.

I'm not sure what the second week for FFH looks like, but Homecoming and Planet of the Apes cannibalized each other's box offices. It took the late China release before Homecoming was finally painted as a box office hit.

I can say, as a parent I'd sure like it a lot more if they'd cut down the cussing in these movies. Endgame seemed to be doing it just to see how many they could get away with before upping the rating.

I'm interested in Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy. I'd be interested in another Thor movie if it's similar to Ragnarok.

I have very little to no interest in many of the new characters that are supposed to lead the next phase.

And spiderman isn't even Disney, so it is going to be interesting to see how comfortable they are using him a lot more than they are already.

i think spidey is arguably the most popular marvel character right now and holland is arguably the most popular actor in the MCU right now. i'd be stunned if marvel drops the ball and doesn't extend its deal with sony to keep them both available for MCU films.

Marvel can make appearances inside Disney parks on the west coast. It's the east coast, where Universal owns park rights.

I keep hoping (and think at some point) that they'll come to terms on these classic marvel characters to be integrated into the Disney World parks. They've already got a Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster under construction at Disney World... somehow that one doesn't get rolled up in the "east of the Mississippi River" clause in the marvel/parks rights discussion.

What if in this this post snap world, he's actually a good guy? We keep waiting and waiting and waiting for the reveal..

And he ends joining the Avengers only to be the main villian in Avengers 5 and tears them apart form within.

That would be dope.... It is Mysterio that causes Wolverine to slaughter the X-Men in the Old Man Logan series....

Because they were such obscure characters until ~5 years ago, Universal didn't care to have the rights.

It's funny that Disney have rights to the main characters at their premier resort. I would think they'll gain access eventually, but it'll take lots and lots of money.

I know it's completely against all the movie making rules, but they really need to cast J.K. Simmons in this role again. He was nails. Definitely played that character so well.

The Multiverse was already introduced in Dr. Strange. At the end of the movie, Wong says "You might have a gift for the mystic arts, but you still have much to learn. Word of the Ancient One's death will spread through the Multiverse. Earth has no Sorcerer Supreme to defend it. We must be ready."
