The special effects were pretty bad at the end but you know I'm okay with it. I would rather a show be a little ambitious and have cheap effects just to tell the story. It didn't detract too much for me. There is a lot of scifi and fantasy material being left off the screen due to what I would imagine would be a hefty budget for special effects.

I would rather people put out the shows and have a decent story/acting because some cheesy special effects aren't going to turn me off. The fights were actually pretty good in this until the end with the guys in the mask with the stormtrooper like aim.

The actor who plays Klaus, Robert Sheehan, is in another amazing show about people with powers called Misfits. Definitely a dark comedy, and worth a watch. He plays a similar character to Klaus. Ramsay Bolton from GoT is in it too. I might even go for a rewatch after finishing the Umbrella Academy last night.

I liked it, although there were episodes where I found myself skipping through some terrible scene... like the one where #1 and Allison start dancing and the scenery changes. A few of those along the way, but will definitely watch season 2 when it comes out.

I don't think anyone critiqued the ending just the special effects and abunch of people complaining about Paige's personal life bs but I don't follow that or care.

The main complaint I can see about the end is it can be compared to the main complaint about Infinity War.

I just finished the season. Were they implying at the beginning of the last episode that Reginald Hargreeves was an alien and/or really old?

Yeah, I can't really figure out what to think that scene with Reginald was about. At first I was thinking nukes, then alien planet...but then he was in, like, the UK getting on a boat. Then that glowing dust thing. Whatever. I'm glad it's getting a 2nd season.

The costume and makeup design for poor Ellen Page was terrible. I hated looking at her. The character itself wasn't really boring, just cliche, imo. Which I guess is a type of boring. Reminded me of Dark Phoenix

We just finished it, and on the whole I enjoyed it. I'll probably give the comic a try at some point.

The main thing that disappointed me was seeing Steve Blackman's name in the credits but not seeing anyone getting wrecked with kendo sticks in the show.

Yes, both. He was on another planet, it's about to be destroyed in some way and his "wife" is too sick to make it to the ships. She gives him her violin and says to give it to someone who will love it as much as she does. He escapes, releases the gold dust that I'm guessing are the seeds that were planted in the women of earth that turned into the children of the Umbrella Academy. He arrives as an "immigrant", but he's not like the rest of them.

When the kids are born he's actually buying back his own children and I'm assuming he has some sort of power himself like foresight that allows him to see that the apocalypse is coming.

awwww..

I liked the comic book, and was going to watch this this weekend.

Now it is a pass.

She's definitely one of the weaker, if not the weakest, link in the show imo. Felt like I was watching someone do a Kristen Stewart impression, and a very good one at that.

I think for what she was asked to do, she did it well. I said it before, the costume choices for her were terrible. It was awkward to just look at her character

Outside of the x-men films, I can't recall seeing her in a role that actually had her emote. Then again, I don't remember everything she's been in outside of Inception. If that's what she was asked to do, fine I guess. Her character just came across as flat to me.

The last 2 episodes reminded me of the goth opera kid from America's Got Talent.

The special effects were pretty cool but a few times they had ghosts casting shadows that should've been removed.

I really enjoyed it. It felt like the show borrowed some elements, which can be said about most shows. Cha Cha and Hazel reminded me of Pulp Fiction. The Day that Wasn't episode was similar to an episode of The Flash. I agree with most that Klaus and Number Five were the most entertaining characters.

In the comic, the monocle always whoever possesses it to see everything about a person they are looking at. So I would guess that when he looked at five, he could see him in the future post apocalyptic world.

This show has a ton of potential. First season was very enjoyable. They need to clean up the unnecessary slow scenes that plague each episode. I'd also like to see them explain more about the commission. Is it a neutral all knowing group, or is it led by a villain type. Regardless, they have a shot to do some heavy world building beyond what the comics had established. Hopefully they get a bump in budget as well.

This show got better and better and better.

It is very whimsical and quirky. The first few episodes we'd look at each other and say "another?" and towards the last few it wasn't a question of whether we wanted to watch another, just could we do it and still function the next day.

Really enjoyed binging this one. It's especially great given how they pulled off both an extinction level plot AND a character driven plot. Despite the characters being so different, the really did feel like family. Which, even though it does sorta put this in soap-opera territory, it works.

I was honestly a bit surprised they ended it with such a cliffhanger. Not sure if it's a Netflix thing but I've kind of grown accustomed to seasons being self contained. That said, with the characters they have, and the pairing potentials, I'm really looking forward to a second season.

Also, +1 for Klaus. Dude clearly had the most fun making the show and just chewed up the scenery.

Just finished the first season. What a turd. I hate comic book stuff and didn't realize this was one of them. I should have pulled the plug when the monkey started talking, but I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and give it a chance.
None of the characters were appealing, they spent almost the entire season on character development and I still don't think any were developed well. The small amount of plot they tried to stick in was not well done. The whole agency thing wasn't developed enough for it to make any sense. The weird Hazel and donut lady came out of nowhere and wasn't good. I could go on and on, but this turd has taken enough of my time.

Just did a rewatch. Literally forgot about 85% of the plot.. but still somehow knew when the crappy scenes were about to come and dreaded them each time. But overall, still a fun watch. Can't wait for season 2.

not really a spoiler since multiple articles have been written and the actors have offered up all of this, but apparently the characters will be dropped back in time around JFK assassination time period but at different points.. like years apart. Five will be the last one to show up and will have to clean up the mess of time that the others have made. There will be some new characters introduced and apparently we will get more backstory / deeper dive on 6 and how he died.

I remember the beginning of episode 1 saying that there were 12 (I think) and Hargreeves was able to get 7 of them. My hope was that each season would introduce one of the five he never got to mentor, either as a villain or as a random character who they find out is like them. I guess they still could.. but I've seen no hints and there's never been any mention of the "others".
