One other thing I liked about this movie is it was not a Bonnie and Clyde movie. It rarely followed them and you didn't even see them that much except a few witnessed killings from afar. Or brief glimpses in their car.

That helped kinda build the intrigue and mystery about them I suppose. But really it played into the Rangers perspective of them being so elusive and always being a few steps behind.

Maybe they'll do a movie from the opposite perspective. That would be interesting.
That's a really interesting idea and one I'm not sure has been done. Basically, film the same movie twice, but from 2 different perspectives. With the right story, that could be a very cool project.

Oddly enough, the closest thing to this that I can think of ties into another thread on this board, Motley Crue's The Dirt.

I thought that was a joke.... no?!?!?!?

A movie from the opposite perspective would be "Bonnie and Clyde"... and that's been done several times. Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway did it back in 1967. There was a TV miniseries about 5-7 years ago with Emile Hirsch.

A Netflix version with the same chars from the other perspective would be interesting maybe.

Hmmmm.

What I meant was making the same movie twice. Same actors, director, storyline, etc. Once from the protagonist's perspective and once from the antagonist's perspective.

Hmmm. ok. intriguing maybe. Except I'm not sure the B&C actors were "name" actors since they were not seen much at all. If you did that up front and they were then you could promo both sides I suppose.

Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima is one from recent memory. I don't think I ever saw letters.

Letters is pretty damn good. I like it better than Flags. Which, small aside, apparently Doc Bradley is no longer one of the flag raisers of the famous raising.

I posted this on a different forum about the movie. I thought it was excellent and well done by John Lee Hancock. However, although its plugged as the TRUE STORY of the hunt for Bonnie and Clyde, there were some glaring historical errors:

Ok.........some spoiler alerts here, but here are some ways the movie was somewhat not "factual":

1.) There was NO car chase between the Rangers and Bonnie and Clyde......they never laid eyes on them until the ambush!

2.) Hamer and Gault NEVER entered the home of Ivy Methvin to look for B & C.....although I really liked how it looked in the movie, as we see the Camel cigarettes she has smoked and their clothes in the closet (and just how small they really are!)

3.) At the ambush, NO ONE and especially Frank Hamer stepped out before shots were fired and said, "stick 'em up".......Louisiana deputy Prentiss Oakley fired first, and that shot killed Clyde instantly. Bonnie screamed: Then they opened up on the car. Clyde's foot did slip off the brake and the car rolled about 40 yards, and they all stepped out and blasted it!

NOW, the end scene of the mob trying to get souveniers out of the death car was very realistic. As a matter of fact, it was worse than what they showed. (I wish they would have showed the scene in Gibsland, as the death car comes into town, kids rushed it from the local school, and got up on the running boards to look in the car....it would have been a nice touch in the movie.
In all, it was an excellent movie......very well made!

You left out the biggest 'liberty' of all. Gault didn't drive all over hell's half acre with Hamer. Hamer was by himself nearly the entire time. Gault only joined him right before the ambush in Louisiana.

I thought it was a pretty dang good movie all in all.

Yeah I thought Letters was done much better, and it really chapped my ass too because FOOF is arguably my favorite book of all time. I think of James Bradley often since the news has come out and how he and his family must feel after all those years of believing that their father was one of the six (and worse, but a topic for another thread, that his father LET them believe it).

That is very true.....they also had Bonnie rolling over the Grapevine patrolman and shooting him in the head. Most researchers don't believe she ever fired a shot at Grapevine. Most likely it was Henry Methvin....in several other police encounters (Wellington for one), Clyde had taken the officers hostage at gunpoint only to release them later. Apparently he said to Methvin, "let's take them" and Methvin took him literally!

Still such a well done movie!!

I finished it today. Just ok for me. Kind of boring. I found Woody much more captivating than Costner and I am a fan of both.

Will say this. I thought it was cool that Netflix made a move about B&C and B&C barely had three minutes of screen time. This was a movie about tow old Texas Rangers, not B&C.

I was shocked at the level of adulation by everyday people for B&C. I did a little research and it appears they did have a weird a following but I really don't get it.

Several bank robbers from that era had followings. It was the depression, people were poor and the banks were perceived as the cause of it. Kind of a eff the man mentality.

John Gotti was a pop hero in NYC for years. People justify romanticizing these figures to themselves for whatever reason.

I don't think a little thing like Bonnie Parker could have rolled a man over with one leg.

I still really enjoyed this movie. Love the perspective from the Texas Rangers and not from the outlaws.

We watched it this past weekend and both really liked it. It would've been a good theatrical movie but Hollywood doesn't release movies like this anymore. It is slow and dialogue-driven, which can be challenging as Costner grumbles most of his lines. But the stars have a good chemistry and it's an interesting story.

I'm surprised how dependable Woody Harrelson has become. He has almost achieved that Robert Duvall-like quality of using his delivery and mannerisms to steal any scene he's in.

Watched it tonight. Enjoyed the gun store scene of course.

I really enjoyed the locations - Texas looked like Texas.

The only part that I didn't care for was the reference to a massacre which according to Wikipedia involved the Army, the Texas Rangers and local ranchers. That bit seemed way overplayed.

I enjoyed the portrayal of the migrant workers and the "colored" workers. Shows you how bad the Great Depression was.

The cars were pretty impressive too.

Definitely worth a watch. Inspired me to research more Texas history.

I'm gonna have to watch this.

The family has a small connection with bonnie and clyde. Allegedly, they spent the night at the family farm in ne texas not long before their deaths. The farmstead was right on the border with east texas and nw lousiana and according to my grandmother, my great grandfather had some small connection with them. I dont know what it was or if it was just something like b&c showed him the barrels of their guns.

My grandmother was about 10 or 11 at the time and used to tell us about seeing their car driving up the road to the farm.

3/4 way through this.....damn, I don't really care for ol' Woody, but it seems like he takes all the projects I'm interested in.

Movie is just OK. Probably need to assign some blame to Kevin too.

Feel like I'm seeing the same "mannerisms" as No Country For Old Men. Maybe the last 1/4 of the movie will convert me. Don't get me wrong, love to hang with the guy some day.

Didn't finish it last night. Started it a little late in the evening and it got past my bedtime. Movie was so slow I could barely make it to my regular bedtime. I was excited about this one and left bored. I got about a half hour left. I will probably finish it, but not tonight. Don't feel cheated of my time, but certainly won't go out of my way to recommend it.
