Yeah, it's usually not a good sign when the plot/conceit can't be easily communicated in the trailer.

I just saw a remake of The Crow is due out this summer?

I hate it already, and everyone involved shouldn't even be allowed to make home movies.

They should have Ray Lewis take over OJ's role in the new Naked Gun. NFL hall of fame who probably killed someone.

- Captain America: Brave New World
- Mission: Impossible 8
- Superman
- Thunderbolts

Is it just me, or does it seem like the majority of the movies coming out are just reboots of old movies?!?

Well TC mentioned these are the likeliest blockbusters because they are existing IP or combos that work really well (Coogler / MBJ). Most years you'll have a few surprises that do great as well.

I think I've entered grumpy old man phase of life because I'm excited about maybe 1-2 out of that whole list.

Last night in the theater for Dune, the guy next to me (seemed to be in his mid-50's) shook his head when the Twisters trailer came on, and leaned over to his son to say they're not doing any original movies anymore.

Every single trailer we got, except Bikeriders, was for sequels or reboots. (GodzillaxKong, Furiosa, Twisters, Deadpool)

To each their own but I'm pumped for a bunch of these.

Blade is my most anticipated Marvel project in a while, and Apex, MI:8, Superman, Tron, Avatar, Mando, Fantastic Four, The Batman Part II, and the Coogler/Michael B Jordan project are all movies I will try to get out to theaters for.

As TPE said, there will be plenty of other original movies next year. That's just a portion of the bigger releases.

Still, of that list, in terms of originality...

- A Brad Pitt F1 movie from the director of Top Gun: Maverick
- Leonardo DiCaprio and Paul Thomas Anderson finally teaming up (with a budget of over $100M)
- Quentin Tarantino's last movie (featuring both Pitt and Cruise)
- A new Jordan Peele movie
- A new Ryan Coogler movie, free of Marvel's constraints

... are all pretty damn exciting/encouraging to me.

Not to mention, we're getting the next movie from Bong Joon-ho (who won Best Picture with Parasite in 2020), potentially Martin Scorsese's next, Ben Affleck's next (starring Matt Damon), Wes Anderson's next... the list goes on and on.

But even in terms of sequels and reboots, personally, I could not be more excited for Mission: Impossible 8, James Gunn's Superman, and The Batman Part II. If the studios have to keep going back to these wells, we they could be doing much, much worse.

Overall, 2025 is going to be a hell of a fun year, up there with 2019 for me.

To be clear, there's no confirmation yet that Butler is actually training for Heat 2 in this video. All we know is that Michael Mann has said that the script is ready and that he plans to start shooting this year, while Butler is heavily rumored for Kilmer's role and Adam Driver is all but confirmed to be playing Pacino's role. So people are simply putting two and two together, but who knows.

Trailer enthusiasm, ranked from loudest crowd reaction to lowest, before Dune: Part Two Saturday night, in front of a riled up crowd of 900+ at the Chinese Theater IMAX...

- Twisters = loudest applause, lots of hooping and hollering
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga = nearly the same, just not *quite* at the same level
- Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes = mild applause, a spattering of hoops and hollers
- Godzilla vs Kong: The New Empire = nothing but laughter
- Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire = crickets

Yeah, Twisters over Ghostbusters?? Morons.

Wasn't Ghostbusters: Afterlife kind of a dud? Reactions were so lackluster I didn't even bother seeing it, many of those reactions from this very board. And now this latest effort looks even worse, like a pure cash grab, with a strong whiff of desperation as well (see: Annie Potts suiting up). I've just heard zero buzz for it, and after so many sh*tty sequels/reboots over the years, I feel like people are mostly over Ghostbusters as a franchise.

Whereas, despite its flaws, Twister is a beloved '90s blockbuster classic that hasn't been touched in nearly 30 years. There's a palpable appetite to return to that world after so long, this new one has a great cast, and looks genuinely fun, thrilling, etc.

I don't know, it seems like a no-brainer to me, to the point where I'm legitimately surprised to see people still defending what is now the sixth entry in a franchise (seventh if you count the old school animated series), a franchise clearly on its last legs/seeing increasingly diminished returns.
