Blue Moves by Elton John. He had quite a run during the 70s and then that came out.

Metallica- And Justice for All

After the first three albums it was a big disappointment. Those first three still hold up.

Out of curiosity, I did some research on the album since its release was before my time. I knew it was Newsteds first album with the band, but they had some serious drama during the recording...much of which explains the flat, bassless sound.

That said, Harvester of Sorrow and One are still among some of my favorites.

Justice is Metallica at their most progressive, pushing tempo, time signatures, and song length to their logical breaking point. I legitomstleh think it's their fourth masterpiece. It's got production issues, but the songwriting is undeniable.

And justice for all had bad production, but it's still very tolerable to me and enjoyable to listen to.

St A is hard to listen to, so much that I don't even know if the songs are good because I can't hardly listen to them.

Death magnetic on the other hand is full of amazing songs, but the production really sucks on it too. It's so overdriven and clipping, it's hard on the ears.

They finally had great production on hardwired after almost 20 years. Their 90s albums are all production masterpieces, along with lightning and puppets.

I thought the the first solo album (I have not heard part ii) was better than anything I had heard from him since probably a ghost is born, which i think was just Ok.

I hate the way albums are mastered these days. Had to hate listen to that last one based on your post. The onslaught of loudness have me a headache.

Btw - I only got to sound #3 but am pretty sure the songs aren't any good either.

Bruce Springsteen's "The Rising"
Wow. Really? That album was PERFECT for the climate in which it was made/released. However, I can think of 3 or 4 other Springsteen albums that fit this bill (all within the past 10 years).

It certainly wasn't 'classic' Aerosmith, but 'awful'? I mean it won multiple Grammy's, was voted album of the year, is their best selling album, and gave us some pretty GD iconic music videos.

I really enjoy that album.

Well it's a bit too polished and "MTV Ready" for my taste but there are some good songs on that album.

I think St. Anger and VH3 are perfect examples of what this thread was looking for. So much so that I have struggled to come up with something new that's on the same level.

Weezer - green album. Followed up the blue album and Pinkerton with....that. Then it just got worse from there.
I like the Green Album. A lot.

My big let down is their Black Album.

I loved the Pacific Daydream which is why I was so stoked for the Black Album. Hell the Teal album was decent even though it's all covers but the Black Album is just a pile of yuck.

Everything Michael Jackson after Bad
Everything Prince after Diamonds and Pearls
Everything U2 after Achtung
Everything Rush after Grace Under Pressure
Everything Pearl Jam after about 1/2 of Vs., so I guess even Vs. was a disappointment overall

Latest Daughtry - Cage To Rattle

First several albums were great with a good rock sound. i don't even know how to categorize this new one, complete departure from his sound and very disappointing.

The first things that popped into my head:

1) U2: Achtung Baby followed by Zooropa

2) R.E.M. - Automatic for the People followed by Monster (though I do like What's the Frequency Kenneth and Strange Currencies)

3) Gin Blossoms - New Miserable Experience followed by Congratulations I'm Sorry.

4) The Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray followed by Come on Feel The Lemonheads

Apparently I quit thinking about this mid way through high school for some reason.

This is random.

Congrats.. had 4 pretty damn good songs, and those are the only ones I've heard off the album. (track 3,4,5,14)

The rest can't be that bad.

I thought of one this morning - the follow-up dud to a globe-transcending, agelessly popular album that will live on in perpetuity in bars, weddings, bar mitzvah's, and office parties.

Lots of disappointing sophomore albums after huge debuts;
Boston, Candlebox, Hootie, Weezer, Snoop, GnR, Traveling Wilburys..

I guess I didn't have high expectations for any of those artists except for GNR and Lies wasn't a disappointment to me.

Use Your Illusion 1 & 2.

Bloated, overwrought and aimless. Some decent songs but the hit to miss ratio was really high given the volume of music on those albums.

Almost like a different band than the one that made Appetite.

I liked Use Your Illusion I. Maybe 3/4 of the songs are good. If the band combined the best songs from the two albums into one 10-12 song album, it would have been great. I also saw Weezer's second album listed. That one is great as well.

I think Gold Experience is Prince's third best album behind Purple Rain and Sign o' the Times.
