Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I think I can live without NFL network.

Started a trial of YouTube tv and seems good so far. My Apple TV and amazon fire stick seem to be a couple generations too old so would need to upgrade. Works well on the Xbox.

I've heard YouTube tv is good for live sporting events. Can anyone on here attest to that?

I need to be able to watch college footbal and basketball on any channel I want and need to have the ability to pause, record, rewind, etc.

And I don't want to have to subscribe to several different streaming services to do it.

Suggestions?

ATT U-verse
$135/mo - U verse
$8/mo - You Tube & Hulu
$8.25/mo ($99/yr) - Amazon

YouTube TV is the way to go. I've had it since it was basically beta. It's only cost $35 back then, but they've added a crap ton of channels since. It's now $50 but for that, you can share with 5 family members, watch TV pretty much anywhere, have unlimited dvr.

Most Samsung TVs have the app built in, app for my phone, can watch on PC, use Xbox, roku, etc. No issues at all. I catch up on my shows when I travel on my tablet.

I watched all televised aggie games as well.

What concurrent stream issues do you find, if any?

We have a fiber service coming in with up to 1GPS speed.
The biggest drawback for YTTV is:
- No NFL Network or NFL Redzone
- No HBO package

Neither are a huge deal if you don't care about Thursday night football and Redzone and subscribe independently to HBO.

The plus side is that they stream in 1080p (where available). Some streaming services only display in 720p (PS Vue).

Otherwise YTTV is pretty solid. Great interface. I plan on swapping from Vue to YTTV in January (after football season).

Concurrent streaming with 1 gig should have 0 issues. That's some insane DL speed.

Question re: cord cutting.

I'm looking at YTTV to replace DirecTV, but I was wondering about the alternate feeds of the SEC Network and the occasional one on ESPN. Are those available/provided on YTTV?

ESPN app. Use YTTV as your provider when signing in.

ACC Network launched recently so another sports channel to consider.

It was added to Hulu+Live, Youtube TV and PSVue from what I have seen - not sure if it's an add-on or in the base package except for Hulu+Live which I have it's included for sure.

I use YouTube TV now and love it. Gets you all the live sports you need, including access to ESPN app, local channels, AMC, etc. It has every channel I regularly watch with uverse for half the cost. I've had the occasional latency issue, but it has been very rare. Really cool to be able to just pull my phone up and stream something I want to watch and hooking up a different TV in the house is a breeze. With Uverse, I had to pay for extra boxes for different rooms so I only had one tv hooked up. Now I can watch anywhere in the house up to the device limits they set. If you keep a Chromecast in your travel bag, you can watch it anywhere.

I am really interested in where the chips will fall in the streaming space. YouTube TV is basically the same as cable at a much cheaper cost. What's unique about Amazon is entertainment is only one component of the prime membership. Netflix is pumping out a ton of content but when there are multiple streaming services and wallets get tight, who will win. I think you'll start to see more of a separation between live content packages and on-demand packages. I could see YouTube offering an even smaller package for cheaper with just sports and news for example. Going to be interested to watch it unfold and see if we end up right where we started with big bloated streaming services that offer 1000 channels for one price.

With 1Gbps, you should not have any concurrent streaming issues.

I'm liking the youtubetv option, but looks like the highest screen resolution they go is 720p. That right?

Also looks like their Fox Southwest defaults to the Dallas area (showing Rangers over Astros all week long on their channel guide). Anyone have youtubetv in Houston and able to watch Stros?

Try them all out for free and pick the one you like best. I picked Vue because I thought their app was best for AppleTV and they had the channels I wanted. YMMV.

Edit to say the Cowboys-Texans game is showing on Vue in Dallas.

So I sit down to watch Cowboys preseason game and it says restricted in my area for NFL Network on SlingTV. I go to the local broadcast which is CW and it is shown on the schedule but says it is unavailable for streaming.

What's the deal here? Why would NFL Network black it out and not let you watch it in the alternate?

The NFL goes to great lengths to make sure people only get to watch the teams the NFL wants them to watch via channels the NFL is partnered with.

EDIT - sorry I thought you were asking streaming services for NFL Network. Not NFL Sunday Ticket. My misread.

NO streaming service provider has NFL Sunday Ticket - it's exclusive to DirecTV and NOT on DirecTV NOW their streaming service.

Actually NFL Sunday Ticket does offer their own streaming service - but only for people who are unable to get the DirecTV satellite service (because of sight lines or access issues).

How many mgbs are you guys using? I had 1000 with a local company and had no problems. Just got AT&T and doing 300 mgbs and my YouTube tv keeps buffering every couple of minutes. I only have one tv going. My cell isn't connected to WiFi... Do I need 1000 mgbs for live tv for YouTube tv?

It depends on the station. ESPN and ABC are both 720p so it doesn't matter what service you use. Most other channels on YouTubetv are 1080.

"Stros" are never on Fox Sports on any regional channel of theirs.

They are on ATT Sportsnet Southwest. Different network entirely.

The ONLY streaming option with ATT Sportsnet SW is Fubo TV.

So that's why the Rangers are on even in Houston - all the regional FS channels in Texas carry Rangers.

There used to be a "FS Houston" with Stros and Rockets - Comcast acquired it, then went bankrupt and then it became Root Sports SW and now is ATT Sportsnet SW.

For those really wanting to see a sports networks breakdown I created this - well I took the google doc on the CNET page exported it and eliminated all non sports channels.

There are other sports channels on some of them - this is only from their top 100 channels. So Olympic, Fishing, Outdoor, MAV TV, etc. are not listed.

I added regional sports channels for Dallas/Houston and I kept TNT, TBS and TruTV on their simply because of NCAA tourney which CBS and Turner channels co own the rights to and use all of those channels for early rounds.

By far the two with the most sports channels are Hulu+Live (20) and Youtube TV (23) with the difference being MLB, NBA and Tennis. Otherwise they are the same on sports availability.

can you link where you got this? I want to see non sport channels.

edit;

well now that they are going the prices are about to rise for everybody else. That's at least my fear.

YTTV has gone up several times this year. No lock in available. They are in a battle with Hulu Live so we will see if competition is stout enough to keep pricing increases at bay.

We cut the cord about two years ago and started using FireStick instead. t was a wise decision as we don't have to pay big bills every month. And to be honest, with the help of properly chosen apps and VPN, we have access to content from all over the world. Someone asked about watching sports here. I use SportHD Kodi addon that lets me watch live sports events by scraping streams from popular sports streaming websites (you can find out more about it here https://www.firesticktricks.com/sporthd-kodi-addon.html if interested). Very convenient.

When this thread started in 2019, Youtube tv was $40/mo ($35 before 2/2018)

They just announced a price hike, it will now be $73.

pre 2018 - $35
2018 - $40
april 2019 - $50
July 2020 - $65
April 2023 - $73

~13% a year increases since 2017.

Yeah with YoutubeTV ($72) and Google Fiber ($70), I'm probably paying more than if I just bundled it through a traditional cable company. I don't mind though, I like the flexibility of just being able to cancel whenever and not return anything with YoutubeTV.

I'm wondering if there's going to be a rebound effect on traditional cable/satellite providers? With prices continuously going up and everything being segregated across multiple platforms, I've heard more chatter recently about people dropping their streaming service and going back to cable/satellite.

We were yttv users for a little while, but now, we only have it active maybe 4-5 months out of the year, usually the fall.

Netflix - $15.50/mo
Disney - $80/yr
Free hbo with cell plan
Amazon prime video with prime membership, which I've had for well over 10 years and use a lot.
Free paramount somehow
We have watched some stuff on tubi and imbd which are free

So we're still at ~$22/mo, plus another ~$325 per year ($27/mo) with yttv. Now with increase, more like $30/mo if used 5 months.

Kids are 7/8, and both are in sports most of the year, so weekday practices, weekend games, I have done racquetball weekly for a few years. We camp in spring and fall, and travel a lot in summer. Not much time to watch tv; A good problem to have.

We do a movie night 2-3 times a month on a weekend night in our basement.

I doubt it. The month to month cancellation without dealing with constant cable company BS is still superior, even if prices are getting less and less competitive.

It's definitely superior for someone just interested in having a local channel option during FB and basketball season.

I currently pay $80 for Hulu/ESPN/D+, I get HBO included with my cell phone from ATT, and my SO pays for prime (more for shipping than the video service) and Peacock so she can watch Housewives a week before everyone else.

I will say, that I'm spending more and more time on peacock as their library has expanded.

I paying more now, than I ever was with cable/satellite. But my biggest complaint is the lack of convenience.

I hate having to sign up for a month's service, just to see if I like a particular show. I miss having everyone all in one spot...not spread across 13 services. I miss the ease of flipping between channels/games.

It was better before.
