You guys have a pretty big ceiling for big.
Oasis - Around 75 millions albums sold worldwide seems pretty damn successful to me. Outside of them breaking up, nothing really got in their way. They were the biggest act in an entire country (England) for a decade.
Killers - 22 million sold worldwide. Headlines a few big festivals last year.
MGMT - I'd say one of the bigger indie bands of the last decade. Festival headliner at some shows.
I freaking love Guster.mrmill3218 said:
Guster never got as big as I thought they should.

Oasis - huge first/second album and not much since, including both brothers having 3 or 4 terrible bands. People expecting them to continue or exceed the first two albums isnt really a "big ceiling", especially if you were alive when this happened.
Killers - dont really disagree. Considering how weird flowers is and how soulless those musicians are, it's kind of amazing they have had the success they've had, and I would say they have met any expectations one could have had the first time you heard mr briteside and somebody told me.
MGMT - again, similar to Oasis but much much smaller scale. Huge early album blew up in 08 moving them from mid level festival to headliners in 2010. That mega album went from indy rock to top 40 rock to target commercials to oldies/mom radio.
The follow up album wasnt great and they fell off the face of the earth around 5 yrs ago when the next albums were worse.
So just like oasis they fit perfectly with the idea of the thread. If you were at a festival in 2008 watching them play those songs and the watching the crowd react you'd have expected them to have a similar run to what vampire weekend (who basically popped that same year) have had.
Oasis was the first band I thought of but only because they were so incredibly cocky. When they claimed they were bigger or were going to be bigger than the Beatles I wrote them off. I also hated that one famous song they had early on.AgHawkeye said:SJEAg said:
Oasis
They certainly thought they would be bigger.
