Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Getting this thread up now because the first trailer will be online at some point this week and will be attached to It: Chapter 2 theatrically next weekend. Warner Bros. is using the opportunity to attach both this trailer and the new Joker trailer to its big, R-rated release, seeing as both "superhero" films are R-rated as well.

In this trailer, in particular, apparently Harley Quinn not only says, "*****these clowns" to camera but then also pops a red balloon, creating a little synergy between all three movies (I don't think either nod is actually in the movie itself, but i could be wrong). The international version of the trailer leaked early, hence the reports, but has since been taken down. In the meantime, a few stills...

Where's Black Mask

Title reminds me of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, but I am...less excited to see this

This movie will either be really good and interesting or total crap.

One early screening reviewer claimed Ewan as Black Mask is one of the best CBM villains ever.

I'm looking forward to it and will be there opening weekend.

So I don't follow the DC Universe very closely, but are they exorcising the 2016 Suicide Squad movie from canon?

I'm wondering why this movie would come before the next Suicide Squad, other than as a vehicle for Robbie. How does it advance the DC storyline?

Short answer... they're not exorcising the 2016 movie from canon. Margot Robbie will be in James Gunn's version as well.

It continues Harley Quinn's character arc. This movie will be about how she doesn't need Joker and finds a girl gang to be with instead (hence the emancipation part in the title). It'll surely end with her back in prison for Gunn's Suicide Squad.

Apparently in this, Batman has been missing for a bit.

If you're looking for MCU-type connectedness you won't find it here or in the movies moving forward until they decide what they want to keep and get rid of.

So... it looks like that bootleg version is going to be the only online release. As this is yet another under-a-minute teaser from WB (Tenet being the other), the studio is apparently starting a new trend of releasing short, theater-exclusive teasers that don't make their way online. That said, the full teaser trailer *is* expected to be online and with Joker in a month. Not a huge fan of this strategy.

Is it racist to say they all look alike?

I think the big difference those were films that sort of shoehorned in some female characters into previously male roles (though I though Oceans was actually pretty good). These are some pretty iconic female characters finally seeing some time on the big screen.

I think this actually looks pretty dang fun from the trailer, we'll see how the story holds up. And I'll bet on it doing some solid box office.
