Well I'll be. I love DC but even I was feeling lukewarm about the movie. I bet word of mouth helps this movie because the trailers were still lacklustre

I'm having battery issues with my MacBook, so I scheduled a genius bar appointment, but the first available time isn't until this coming Thursday. Seeing as I might have to leave my computer for a few hours, I saw that Birds of Prey starts at 6 PM at the big flagship AMC in the same mall, so I figured I could kill time by watching it while my battery's replaced. Otherwise, I probably would have waited 'til the next week to see this, if at all. Well, as of last night, there were maybe only five tickets left in the entire theater. I managed to get a decent one, but I couldn't believe that nearly a week in advance tickets are almost sold out. Granted, again, it's one of the most popular theaters in LA, but I didn't even see this kind of demand for Joker, which I also saw on opening night, at the same theater. Crazy.

Goes to show the state of our "news"

The Thursday night showing on the XD screen here in B/CS for 6pm has (as of right now) 6 tickets sold. The 8:45 showing has about a dozen tickets sold.

Both of my young boys absolutely loved Suicide Squad, but neither have even mentioned anything about this film. I have very little desire to see this movie (the trailers just look bad), but with my current employment situation I have some free time. I think I'll be catching this Friday morning for the early bird price.

It's funny, I saw The Gentlemen this Monday at 11am and, in my late 40's, I was still the youngest person among the couple dozen that were there.

Supposedly the review embargo lifts tomorrow - unless that's tomorrow in Europe time or something, so maybe sooner.

What's weird is I'm still looking forward to this more than Black Widow. Nowhere near as much as Wonder Woman 1984 or The Eternals (super hyped for those two), but still. I'm really looking forward to seeing Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, who I've heard is amazing in the role (from test screenings).

This movie won't go out and make Suicide Squad money, but I'm willing to bet it's a lot better than that pile of turd.

It'll probably make Shazam! money without the high ratings from critics and fans. I'm really hoping they held back in the trailers to not give things away.

Just to make that clear: that's global opening.

They got $158.6 million last year from Shazam. They are predicting $50-55 million domestic. Not bad. That would make it the 10th highest opening for a movie in February.

Bad new for everyone is that the Asian markets are taking a hit with the coronovirus scare going on right now, Who knows: without that, Birds of Prey may have topped the numbers for Shazam.

Sorry for not clarifying that it was global. The Shazam comment was because I think BoP will have better legs than Shazam.

I still think Shazam could have done much better if Endgame didn't come out three weeks later. I know most average people don't go to more than two movies in a month, and let's get real. People going to see one movie in April aren't seeing Shazam over Endgame.

I have to admit I am completely surprised. I expected this to be absolutely horrible. The trailers have done nothing for me, and I still don't really have any desire to watch this, but now I'm at least curious.

i was pretty skeptical until someone local that i follow (and generally agree with) on twitter reported on it and said it was the best DCEU film to-date. so i've moved from skeptical to guardedly optimistic

I've got my ticket for 11am in the morning tomorrow. I'm still wary, so I used one of my free movie credits on it so I won't be out anything.

I'm just hoping to be entertained.

I likes a team-up, but I don't really like Harley Quinn. Like at all. Maybe this movie would change my mind. But I'll probably wait until it's on HBO or something.

So what's her back story? I've seen Suicide Squad and from what I can remember, wasn't she a psychologist or something who started dating the Joker and that basically ran her crazy? So now she's some kind a bad ass because of it? Am I remembering correctly, surly there is more to the story.

she used to be written just as Joker's crazy girlfriend, but modern comics have her as more of a morally gray anarchist anti-hero, sometimes in a relationship with Poison Ivy. In the Injustice games/comics she's actually part of Batman's rebellion against evil overlord Big Brother-esque Superman

Back up to 91% after 96 reviews

I was in the group that was sure this was going to be awful. I was probably going to see it regardless since I watch every comic movie that comes out.

In the end, they got rid of the worst part of Suicide Squad. So, guess it was bound to be better than S.S. ever was.

Interestingly, I've seen Huntress called out in multiple places as particularly good, even reviews that weren't overly positive.

I thought it was really fun. I can't stand Harley Quinn, though. I felt like I was just tolerating her. I loved Huntress and Canary. Zsasz and Black Mask were so great and creepy.

Definitely a low stakes movie. Great soundtrack and awesome fight scenes, although there are a few where you're like "oh come on" with an eye roll.

Edit to add I would give it 6.5 or 7/10 and an overall positive review.
