This is going to be old news to most of you, but if yall are into historical fiction, you absolutely have to read the Aubrey/Maturin books by Patrick O'Brian. They're the source material for the Master and Commander movie with Russell Crowe and they're probably my favorite series of all time.
The first book starts with the two main characters meeting, one a Royal Navy lieutenant who just got his first command and the other a renowned surgeon who's secretly an intelligence agent. O'Brian takes a lot of real events from the Napoleonic era and subs in his own characters, so while the adventure level is absurdly high for one ship's crew, the individual events themselves are rooted in reality.
There's 20 books, each is 10 chapters, approx 300 pages, and the writing is just incredible. You also get immersed in nautical terminology with little to no explanation and somehow end up understanding it. In book 1, you'll be like, "um, what's a jib?", and by book 5 or 6 you'll find yourself thinking, "wow, that's a strong crosswind. If the officer on deck doesn't strike topsails they're in danger of having a mast carried away."
