Agree, but I think you have to add W. Houston. I'm not a fan, but she was a monster vocalist and sold a crap ton of records.

They will induct B.I.G and Whitney Houston. And Bruce Dickinson will laugh his ass off when they do.

If I had to guess, based on how they've selected in the past:

  • Whitney Houston
  • Pat Benatar
  • Kraftwerk
  • Notorious BIG
  • Soundgarden
  • Judas Priest or Motorhead

Who I'd like to see from that list:

  • Soundgarden
  • Judas Priest
  • Nine Inch Nails
  • Thin Lizzy
  • Motorhead
  • Depeche Mode

Hmm, thought that was the case, but looked at last year to confirm and there were seven. Then probably no metal. Can't be sullying the hallowed halls with that racket

Is there a Pop hall of fame she can be in? Should Streisand be in the RRHOF?

Never thought about Barbra Streisand in my life. Isn't the rock n roll hall of fame the all encompassing music hall of fame? There are rap groups in. Whitney Houston was arguably the best singer to ever record. Surely her voice belongs right.

Same stupid argument on this board every year.

It''s a rock/pop rock/blues/R&B HOF.

If you think Whitney Houston doesn't belong, then that's simply your own personal bias getting in the way. She had one of the most beautiful voices in recorded music history and was an international icon.

Streisand has a beautiful voice but doesn't fit into the categories to be inducted into this HOF. That's like asking why Frank Sinatra isn't in the R&R HOF while Bobby Darin is.

It's really not complicated.

What point are you attempting to make? You're arguing simply for the sake of arguing.

Yes, Cole Porter was an incredible song writer. Did he write a bunch of rock, pop rock, blues, and R&B songs?

He had some songs performed in a few of those genres by some who are in the HOF but the ideas that Cole Porter himself belongs in it is absurd. Same concept as my Sinatra comment above.

I know that its the same argument every year and I know its like asking "why don't they play music videos on MTV anymore", but I still don't think these Pop and Rap acts should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I get it, there isn't a equal institution for them to go to and that's why they are here but you should either create a Music Hall of Fame or Rap Hall of Fame or change the name of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to something else.

That said i think they should induct the following:

  • Nine Inch Nails
  • Soundgarden
  • Judas Preist
  • Pat Benatar
  • Motorhead

This x 1.000. It's the name that confuses everyone. Whitney was a bigger star with more vocal talent than just about any performer in the last 40 years. It's just that nothing about her says rock & roll.

They really should change the name to the "Rock & Roll and Music Hall of Fame". It would allow them to keep the brand equity they've already built into the name while also bringing the benefit of widening the scope of other performers who they can consider, all without people getting annoyed and confused over how a folk singer can get inducted
Do, or do not. There is no try.

Dandy. Then call it the Music Hall of Fame.

Streisand doesn't fit but Whitney does? By your own "categories" you disagree with yourself.

Your Sinatra comment makes no sense anyway. You talk about "categories" but don't define them, other than Whitney's beautiful voice and "international icon" which doesn't eliminate Streisand or Sinatra.

Cole Porter could be inducted as an "influencer" if nothing else.

That was my point. Yes, Whitney Houston was very talented and famous. That doesn't explain why she should go into the R&R HoF and others should not.

I agree that the R&R HOF would ideally be limited to actual R&R acts. But it's not and never really has been. For the HOF, the R&R name is just a stand-in for pop culture. Thus, the R&R umbrella the HOF applies is fairly large and covers a multitude of related musical genres. Pop, R&B, rap, influential country (think Cash), etc. Whitney Houston definitely qualifies under the expanded definition.

I can understand not liking the HOF's definition of R&R. I don't understand still being perplexed by it all these years later. It is what it is-a musical pop culture hall of fame.

Another argument for the sake of it post.

I clearly stated rock, pop rock, R&B, and blues. I also should have mentioned rap but neglected to in my haste.

If you need definitions for those then you're doing nothing but picking nits and I have no interest in joining you in that endeavor.
