Who's going? Wouldn't miss this for the world.

https://www.savingcountrymusic.com/sturgill-simpson-tyler-childers-arena-tour-revealed/

Quote:

Tickets for "A Good Look'n Tour" will go on sale November 8th at 10:00 a.m. local time.

March 27 Dallas, Texas American Airlines Center

March 28 Austin, Texas Frank Erwin Center

March 29 Sugarland, Texas Smart Financial Centre

Not a fan of the massive venues, though, as the article points out:

Quote:

And like the rumors were alluding to, this will be an arena-level tour.

Undoubtedly this decision by promoters (AEG is behind the tour, not LiveNation) will lead to some griping by long-time fans who have seen both of these acts grow up from the local club level to selling out small theaters, and will now have no option except to see them in a cavernous venue. However this is also a major victory for both of these artists. Similar to topping album sales charts, or being considered for top industry awards, achieving an arena-level draw is a right of passage, and speaks to just how far music not supported by corporate radio has come.

Hot take: Sturgill has already had his 15 minutes and Tyler Childers is an average musician and singer but a very good songwriter that writes with authenticity about Appalachian culture.

Both are noteworthy and relevant in "country" music only because of the complete ****show that is Nashville country today.

Simpson's new album is trash and definitely not country

15 minutes are up where?
He can (if desired) tour (and earn) at the level of success hes had for the next 2-4 decades.

Going to see Tyler Childers tonight in St. Louis. I like Sturgill stuff but it is out there. Tyler Childers is a breath of fresh air to country music in my opinion. I think both of these guys are going to have much more than 15 minutes as stated by earlier poster. When I heard TC several years ago, I told my friend that I was with - this guy is about to blow up. REK is opening for TC in Chicago this week. Saw REK last weekend outside of KC and will again this weekend when he comes back through StL. Actually got to talk to REK for a few minutes and he had a lot of good things to say about TC.

I will never stop bragging about this - I saw Tyler Childers at Gruene Hall last December (shout out to the TexAgs poster who hooked me up with the ticket for this soldout show!) and it was one of the greatest shows I've ever experienced.

I would love to see Childers show at Gruene Hall but that is a far trip for me. Saw him here in StL but was planning on going to KY or KC to see him when they added the StL show last year. This year he did a show last night at a concert hall and tonight at more of big club. I'm going to that show tonight as luckily someone sold their tickets at cost because the prices definitely shot up this year.

Def going, pretty surprised it's at the AAC and Frank Erwin center. I'd rather see him somewhere more intimate, but I'm also happy that he's reached that level.. I noticed the Houston location is in Sugarland. What venue is down there?

So Sturgill is playing 4 dates in the UK in January. From what I can tell, these are much smaller venues. I'm trying to talk a buddy into London or Manchester. Any of them would be cool, and I've been trying to go to the UK for a while. I think that would be an amazing experience to see him over there.

I completely missed the Sugarland one, I'll go edit the OP. Its at: March 29 Sugarland, Texas Smart Financial Centre.

Holds 6400 based on a google search. UK would be awesome. I'd go even if you don't see sturgill

SFC is a nice venue for a comic, play, etc

It's an energy sucking venue for music and every decent band who can ends up booking Revention next time they are in Houston.

Amusing how so many have jumped aboard the bandwagon. Obviously this is important for the artist, trying to earn a living, but us long-time fans can only roll our eyes at all the bandwagoners serving up hot takes - especially about Sturgill's (excellent) new album.

Bottom line is to listen - just a bit more - to those who have followed the artist from the origin.

I liked him because he was country. Once he starts trying to "explore" or "experiment" or any of that artsy garbage I don't have time for him.

How does Sturgil do a set with his new album along with his old stuff?

I've listened to Sound and Fury more than any single album I can remember but it is in no way the same genre as everything he did prior to it.

Why is he expected to make those people happy? Should the Beatles not have released SGT Pepper because it was not going to sound like "Help!"?

If you have seen him live, he's always been more of a rock and roll jam band than a typical country singer. I think the new album will be a cool addition to his already amazing live sets.

Apparently he's been playing Sound and Fury start to finish and then the second half of the show he plays his older stuff. That's what's been reported since the album dropped

You just make a set list and when one song ends you play the next one. Just like in rehearsal. It's really not that hard.

Heard an interview where Sturgill says they recorded the new album a couple years ago, and the live sound of those songs are a little different now after having worked through them for a while. He even said he wished he could have re-recorded it.

I like the sound of him and the actual band in the new album. But the sci-fi synth stuff is way over the top and distracting in my opinion...though maybe that's toned down in a living setting.

I definitely respect that he wants to do things outside of the easy-going Waylon Jennings mold that he started with. The overly digital sound, to me, comes off as over-produced...and what I liked that his sound was more raw and less produced.

Is there a way to time this precisely? I got burned once at a Pearl Jam show when they didn't play a single song from Ten. If a band/singer refuses to play the hits I'm usually out on their live shows.

Will fit in just fine. Sturgill's live shows rock, not reflective of studio albums.

No chance they sell out these venues. Way too big. Even crazier than Stapleton playing the new Rangers ballpark. At least he got Willie to open the show.

He a little too big for theaters like ACL live but not big enough for arenas.

I saw Tyler Childers playing dive bars here in coal country five or six years ago. Johnny-come-latelies like Redstone are cute.

I like Childers and Simpson both. But let's not delude ourselves that they are generational talents.

What do you mean by time it? I've just read reviews of his concerts online. I assume his set list will probably change for this new tour. Read up on how the first few go before going in on the texas dates if you want. That's the best way to get a feel for what he's gonna do set wise

Agreed. He may be too big for ACL but many artists just play 2 or even three nights sometimes and sell them all out. (Isbell, Wilco, etc)

I love both Sturgill and Tyler. Have been following them both for a long time. Saw Tyler for free in the Waterloo parking lot to a very small crowd years ago. I LOVE Sturgills new album but the venue might keep me from going. I hate concerts at Frank Erwin.

Speaking to how he might do the set. Sturgill likes to play an album start to finish live which fits his albums well and really would the most recent. I wouldn't be surprised to see him do that and then play hits from the other albums. I hope he would but he may just have too much material now to do that.

Oh well, great for these two artists but count me as a bit sad to see this as an arena tour.

I'm gonna do the AAC although its hard for me to believe he can fill it up. I'll just try and get as close to the stage as I can.

Really trying hard to get my buddy to go to London in January to see him. Much smaller venue and still tickets available at less than $50 USD. Totally justifies the plane ticket.
