Trying to get tickets for the Austin show. Best available keeps coming up nosebleeds.
Tickets aren't supposed to go on sale until this Friday at 10:00 AM. Not sure what you're seeing

I had all kinds of hell with it this morning. Every time I clicked on two together, it would say someone beat me to it. Ended up getting section 117 (I really wanted floor) for $130 a ticket after fees.

I'm happy for Sturgill, but I just don't see how he's commanding this type of venue and price point. And I still despise the ticket industry more than anything.

It was a verified fan pre-sale (allegedly) that you had to register for. I'd send you mine but I already used it.

I'm gonna try again on Friday to get floor, so if that happens I'd be willing to sell my current tickets in 117 (Dallas - AAC)

There are multiple presales going on today, and the AMEX presale is tomorrow morning.

$130 a ticket. Good lord concerts are expensive these days. I know Sturgill is semi big but I would put him on the same level as Isbell and I've seen him twice in the last year and a half for half that amount.

Anybody have presale info for Houston?

Yeah, I love the album, and the fact that Tyler is opening, but paying $230 for an artist I saw for free at Fitzgerald's a few years ago is hard to accept.

Well, forget my enthusiastic OP, I am feeling the same. I can't justify the cost especially after seeing Tyler Childers at Gruene Hall and Stubbs. Frank Erwin center for this just doesn't seem enjoyable. Probably passing.

they definitely took the big venue route to the extreme on this one.

would have preferred Cynthia Woods type venues even if they needed a bigger place.

Even Denver..I was hoping to fly to go to Red Rocks but its in an arena too.

sucks.

Yep, for Austin specifically I think this would've been much more well-suited to ACL Live @ the Moody Theatre. Definitely sucks. But Tyler Childers will be back around in the smaller venues I'm sure, and Sturgill can go pound sand charging those prices

Still quite a few tix available for the Sugarland show, which is a great venue, but not sure I want to spend the money. I think Childers is pretty overrated but like Sturgill, but not that much, plus having to drive out to SL.

Hot take: Sturgill has already had his 15 minutes and Tyler Childers is an average musician and singer but a very good songwriter that writes with authenticity about Appalachian culture.

Both are noteworthy and relevant in "country" music only because of the complete ****show that is Nashville country today.

SS' albums keep getting progressively better. So no.

Childers is an average singer?

then you just dont care for his style I assume?

He is one of my favorite voices.

These venues way too big for these two. Just wait to buy tickets until week of, they will be well under what face value is now.

Good point, might be worth checking that out if I can get a reasonable deal. I also feel like a lot of these shows are gonna be pretty sparse turnout wise given how much these places can seat. I saw Eric Church at Frank Erwin a few years ago and that wasn't even full and I'd say he's much bigger than Sturgill

How does Sturgil do a set with his new album along with his old stuff?

I've listened to Sound and Fury more than any single album I can remember but it is in no way the same genre as everything he did prior to it.
Apparently he's been playing Sound and Fury start to finish and then the second half of the show he plays his older stuff. That's what's been reported since the album dropped

Is there a way to time this precisely? I got burned once at a Pearl Jam show when they didn't play a single song from Ten. If a band/singer refuses to play the hits I'm usually out on their live shows.
What show and year was that?

Like 20 years ago at Reunion. I don't remember anything from ten and was annoyed. When I saw them on SMU's campus before that show they played the whole album.

Bands should always play their hits or they are ***holes.

IMO, you are paying an artist for an experience and they can use that time how they see fit. And obviously you are free to be upset about it.

I typically trust the performer though. They typically know what they are doing.

Sound and Fury is good but I hope its about 25% of the whole show between Sturgill and Childers. Its my least favorite by far of everything that those two could play.

It's just not my style.

I was at that show.

Let me go check my set list from that show.

I have never seen a show where they didn't play a song from TEN.
Now, maybe it wasn't a hit from the album, because Why Go and Black were never released. But they always play something from that CD.

Some how I doubt you were even at that concert.

As for the SMU concert?
No, they didn't play the whole album. Yet you fondly remember that one.

And I was with my friends.

They didn't play the whole album and they were touring fof Vs. So of course they are going to sing songs from that amazing album.

I saw Sturgill at White Oak in Houston a few years ago and it was one of the more disappointing shows I've been to. He played a few songs off his first two albums and then played A Sailer's Guide to Earth track by track and that was it. No encore or anything. I was hoping for a lot more off of Hight Top Mountain and Metamodern Sounds. Sailer's guide and his newest album just don't do it for me. He's no doubt a talented artist, and he's free to make whatever kind of music he wants, I just hope he makes country music again at some point.

I saw Tyler Childers at the same venue, except for inside instead of outside and it was one of the best concerts I've seen. I am huge fan of his since I saw him on youtube a few years before Purgatory came out (acknowledging how ******y I sound here) and he absolutely delivered. He and the opener also played a couple REK songs as well which I loved.
