A lot of good suggestions so far but Corey hunt band is pretty good too.

Really like these guys. Think they are from North Carolina but all their stuff sounds like Texas country.

Look for the artists with original sound and lyrics and don't sing about drinking and stereotypical texas stuff.

I know that scene loves to bash on Nashville for singing too much about trucks and stuff, but Texas country and red dirt are becoming just as bad in their own way. I love Texas, but you can only sing about the state so many different times before it all gets obnoxious and starts to sound the same. Lyrics about margaritas, Lone Star beer, tacos, Gruene Hall, and comparing your woman to features and landmarks of the state have long-past run their course.

A few of my favorite local artists these days:

Cody Jinks
Hayes Carl (always a classic)
Charley Crockett
Flatland Calvary
Jamestown Revival

I've been liking Flatland Calvary a lot lately

REK
Hayes Carll
Steve Earle

Listen to each regularly and have seen each live several times.
Solid stuff there. FWIW, I sat next to Allison Moorer on a flight to Nashville a while back. She used to be married to Steve Earle. Now she's married to Hayes Carll.

That immediately eliminates Dos Borrachos.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Mike and the Moonpies latest album is freaking superb.

I just saw them in concert and Hanks in McKinney. Their sound is great! Great music and cool band. Check them out, you'll love it.

A lot of really good choices already.

Brandon Rhyder is another that's been around for a while that's pretty good and different from most.

Whiskey Meyers is the best. Also enjoy Cody Jinks and Brandon Rhyder.

Max Stalling

Outside of Robert Earl Keen, Max is my favorite Texas music artist. He has a few pandering songs about drinking/Texas, but the vast majority of his tunes are incredibly written songs. He's a hell of a nice guy to boot.

Give Keith Michael Kallina a listen. He comes from a huge family of Ags (grandfather, both parents, brother, multiple uncles, aunts and cousins) and just released his first album

I saw a picture of Evan on a fan page. He definitely looks much healthier! His face is full again. He was looking pretty bad leading up to them splitting up.

Whiskey Meyers puts on a kick ass concert. The cowbell player puts on a show. I've seen them 3 times and have never been disappointed.

Shane Smith and the Saints

Saw them for the first time in Steamboat Springs last January and was hooked. They put on an amazing show. Shane has got some freaking pipes and they pull off the 4 part harmony very well. Their performance at The Rustic in Houston a couple weeks ago was epic. REK Feeling Good Again cover and some Turnpike.

Was talking to someone at work about this thread yesterday and she said a band worth a listen is Southern Brave. They're on Spotify.

A good resource for me is the Saving Country Music Top 25 playlist on Spotify.
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7mfYm0btgVvLXdeC7wiV7K?si=YbcEEkGzTaOgcXVMqYyfCw

Just discovered this guy on that playlist, Zephaniah Ohora. NY based, but should be right at home in your ears
