Everybody Hurts

Would never have considered that as their signature song

I know it is one of their biggest hits and one everyone knows.

And it blows

i feel like this is the only leppard song 90% of the populace knows, which is sad cause they are arguably the best 80s band
Really? They have 6 #1 hits, and that isn't even one of them.

There is probably literally no one that only knows that song.

Anyone that didn't grow up in the 80s only knows them for that one song.

I wanted to test this theory. I went to Spotify to listen to their top 10 streamed songs and literally only know one of them. Yes, I listen to music. No, I'm not in my 20s.

How do you find the top 10 streamed songs? I see the 5 listed as popular when you pull up their band page.

And FTR, Sugar as over 106 million plays while their 2nd most popular song is Hysteria at 43 million.

And isn't that # likely low.... did I make up that that was a song that got "re-recorded" in order for someone to gain the rights back?

But anyways, while it may or may not be a "signature" song, I can't stand the River by Garth Brooks

I'm still flabbergasted that some of you don't recognize more than one Def Leppard song. That honestly blows my mind.

It's completely reasonable to hate a song because it's overplayed.

They have TWO diamond records and 100 million albums sold over all. You simply don't get those kind of stats with one hit song. End of story.

I have never owned a def leopard album, I rarely listen to a whole song of theirs if it comes on radio, I was born in 80 so they were a bit ahead of my time, and they are about as far away from what I like in rock as possible, yet I can easily name several songs.

Photograph, love bites, let's get rocked, hysteria, sugar, fa fa fa foolin, rock of ages, animal, heartbreak.

Pretty certain "Love Bites" is Def Leppard's only #1 Billboard single. Sugar topped out at like 2 or 3.

I'll admit Sugar got me initially interested in Def Leppard (I was 11), but I've definitely since appreciated the rest of their catalogue more. Even limiting it to Hysteria, I think "Women" and "Animal" are their best singles.

Depends on what you consider a "hit" song. Are you talking about actual chart hits or just songs that are very popular? Plus there are tons of people that just don't listen to rock radio or younger people that don't listen to classic rock. Those people are only going to know Pour Some Sugar On Me. That's a song you pretty much can't escape.

Aerosmith - Sweet Emotion.

I honestly don't know why I hate it but I won't listen to it.

I would liken it to saying 'most people have only heard don't stop believing'. Sure maybe there's some millennial out there that can say that, but a large majority of people have also heard faithfully, any way you want it, open arms, or separate ways at some point in their life.

Again, you simply don't sell 100 million albums, two of them diamond, on one Omnipresent, song. That takes at least a few.

I stayed up to hear the entire Top 10 on the radio just so I could hit record just in time for the call in "AND #1 TONIGHT ON 97.1 THE EAGLE IS DEF LEPPARD'S LET'S GET ROCKED".

I can still remember the sound of that old cassette garbling "DO YOU WANNA GET ROCKED?"

Just texted two friends in their mid 30's and asked them if they can name a Def Leppard song.

The guy listens to mostly rap but loves Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, and Slipknot. He immediately said Pour Some Sugar On Me. Only other song he knew was Rock Brigade which he somehow found on YouTube.

The girl doesn't listen to ANY rock music. She said she had no idea who they were. I had her listen to Sugar and she immediately knew it and said she loved it. Wasn't sure at first where she knew it from but eventually remembered it was in Meet The Millers.

There's a difference between recognizing a song and knowing who sings it. Just like a lot of people could only name Enter Sandman for Metallica. Def Leppard sold a ton of records, but it was pretty much within a 10 year period. I think the only song of theirs that have really stood the test of time is Pour Some Sugar On Me. Almost everyone between the ages of 12-65 knows that song. If I played Love Bites to my students, I would get a bunch of blank stares.

They're actually a fantastic band - Damon Albarn is a genius. They have tons of great songs, but I also love Song 2 still.

I had a few in Houston throughout my teens and twenties.
But I don't think I've even seen a non white since I moved to Parker 8 years ago. It's whiteville around here. It's also full of ****s in their 40s who I'm sure have heard more than pour some sugar on me.

I certainly never said that everyone can regurgitate the name of a second DL song. I said they would know another song. That means, it comes on, they hear it and say, yeh I know/have heard that song.

I said grew up, not born. If someone was born in the 70s, then part of their childhood took place during Def Leppard's height.

You didn't go wrong. I don't care for DL at all. They sound like an 80s version of a boy pop band to me.
