To be fair (to be fairrrrrrrrrrrrr) to Maverick, both he and Iceman have some culpability in Goose's death. I know the panel cleared Maverick and blamed equipment failure, but Iceman should have pulled off and given Maverick the shot when Iceman couldn't get tone. And Maverick shouldn't have tried to force his way in there when Iceman wouldn't pull off, thereby putting his tomcat in the jet wash.

Both of their egos played a part. However, Maverick was the wingman, and Goose was his RIO; Goose was his responsibility.

Ice Man had zero culpability in Goose's death. He was flying in front of them for crying out loud.

When you describe Ross, he does seem pretty creepy.

Had an obsession with the same girl for his entire adolescence, who was his little sister's age.

Stayed married to Rachel and lied about it.

Thrice divorced by age 30.

Dated one of his college students.

Tried to have sex with his cousin.

And yet, I liked Ross as a character.

Iceman was too desperate to win the trophy, hr cut Maverick off first. Then, he wouldn't pull out when he couldn't get the angle. So Maverick, also desperate to win the trophy, get pushing up closer and closer. When Iceman finally did bail off, Maverick got caught in his jetwash, and Goose died.

While not ultimately culpable because Maverick could have backed off, Iceman's attitude and refusal to give over the point (and possibly the win) to Maverick contributed to the chain of events that led directly to Goose's death.

But then again, Goose's seat should have ejected, so...

That's interesting. This seems to be on at my house from time to time and I always tell my wife that if they could re-edit the show to remove all references to Phoebe I might actually enjoy it.

He was the hero of this movie. Just a small town cop trying to keep the peace and protect his community by letting vagrants know they aren't welcome.

Longshanks and Teasle were good villains, I thought. Longshanks was an evil, evil ******* but he was also a very competent opponent with strength of will and character.

Teasle was barely even a bad guy. Yeah, he was intolerant of drifters, but Galt was the worst person in that movie. If it weren't for his petty cruelty, it would have ended at a night in jail, a couple free meals, and a ride to the next town. Galt's own blood lust got him killed, and then the national guard got panicky and flipped Rambo's switch. Teasle made a couple unkind choices for sure, but he was sort of drawn into the real war.

The characters I hate most are the ones who inflict pain all out of proportion with their petty and weak personalities or who bully the weak. I don't mind evil villains as long as it's a fair fight. Some of my most hated characters:
  • Joffrey is a cruel coward with a fortunate last name. Everyone he tortures and provokes is ten times the man he is, even the women and little people.
  • Dolores Umbridge is a useless, weak little puff of a human who is chooses to ignore the danger the world faces, yet inflicts petty torture on helpless students and uses her position to force stronger better people to back down.
  • Cal in Titanic has a really punchable face. Though he can be insulated, he's a relatively strong person straight up picking on the weak, not fighting a worthy adversary.
  • Percy in the Green Mile is mean and abuses his power over the helpless. Poor mouse.
  • Admiral Holdo's incompetent leadership, smug posturing, and bullying of people for questioning obvious mistakes results in the death of most of the rebellion for no good reason.
  • Guthrie in Rob Roy delights in torturing people he knows have no defense, and affects a weak foppish character just to mess with people.
